My daily commute is only 10km 1-way, so to and fro is around 20-25km. I ATGATT on my commute except for riding pants. I just wear my work cargo pants as it is too inconvenient to change pants.

I wear a Shoei Neotec 2 helmet, Furygan WB07 mesh jacket with D3O pads and upgraded with additional CE level 2 back D3O protector, Furygan Jet D3O gloves, recent addition is the Alpinestar CR-X Drystar riding shoes and on longer rides other than my work commute, I have a pair of Furygan Jeans with D3O as well. I love d3o as it is soft and I can fold my jacket with the full back protector and fit it in my top box with my helmet so I can ATGATT to anywhere and leave my gear secured on my bike.

For me helmet must be full face or modular, few years ago I jatuh bodoh from my VS125 scooter and faceplanted at 60kmh onto tarmac. If not because of my LS2 modular helmet, my face would've been a goner. And for that crash I was wearing my RS Taichi jacket with armour but did not wear my gloves as it was raining and I didn't want to wet my gloves(stupid me!). In the end my upper body had almost zero damage other than my palms.

Aftermath from my fall from a scooter

If anybody is interested with Furygan gear, you can go direct to the distributor at Balakong where they are having some very nice discount on older model gears. Also bought my rain suit there as well and had yet to use it but it is always in my top box.

Basically this is how I look like with my gear. Photo from when I was test-riding some Triumph bikes.

Bro
Protect your knees as well.

If you remember the story I shared, my buddy fractured his kneecap just from a simple fall from his motorbike.
*
Yeah getting a motowolf strap on knee guard for work. Seems like they come with viscoelastic pads, at least in the photos.

Imma gonna get a cam mount, is that stuck on using 3M tape?
*
Yeah don't forget to match the surface you're mounting on, there's the curved or flat mount.

Any recommendation for helmet cam... might start doing a moto vlog....
*
Gopro would be the gold standard, or any of Insta360's 360 cam offering is that is more your thing. Try to get at least a Gopro 8 and above. Ideally 9 and above.

QUOTE(skyblu3 @ Nov 8 2022, 05:32 PM)
for curved surface on my helmet, I use this epoxy putty to mold the exact shape of the helmet curve and my gopro mount surface.

*
Vaseline is a pretty good release agent for these epoxy btw. Put Vaseline on your helmet surface and the epoxy putty won't stick to it.

QUOTE(skyblu3 @ Nov 8 2022, 05:34 PM)
some recent reviews says that DJI Osmo Action 3 is much better than Gopro.
(and cheaper)
*
Still not as good as a Gopro to me. I use Gopro pretty often as I fly FPV drones.

So they had arrived. The pads feels similar to d3o I guess, but seems to be less 'nice' when compared to my d3o pads. I wish the velcro are longer, or my legs are just too huge as the straps at the thighs are just barely touching.

Guess I'll be getting some weird looks from my colleagues tomorrow laugh.gif

But GoPros after 4 are sooooo friggin heavy...

I really cannot brain how ppl ride with that brick on their helmet....n thats not even including the brick of a mic adapter yet
*
You'll get used to it. If you want lightweight then maybe can try an insta360 go 2, used gopro Session 5 or the latest gopro 11 mini, but all these cameras have the downside of having a fixed battery so you can't just swap the battery out when you've depleted it.

Total RM4258. About 10% of my bike value.
At least I feel comfortable and safe.
*
For mine,

Shoei Neotec 2 - RM3100
Cardo Freecom 4+ - RM950 i think
Furygan Jet Gloves - RM200 i think
Furygan WB07 Jacket - RM450
Fruygan Back Protector - RM221
Furygan Jeans - RM369
Alpinestars CR-X Drystar Shoes - RM820

Total - RM6,110

Yeap, my gear is worth half my bike laugh.gif

Haven't add in raincoat RM250, or if remove the Cardo also still RM5k+. Gloves and jacket all consider entry-level stuff only samore. Then again, Malaysia too hot for more protective gear

QUOTE(jaycee1 @ Nov 10 2022, 05:29 PM)
Don't think you can get proper riding pants under 200 here. Proper ones with Kevlar lining will be closer to 500 even on sale.

Incidentally, These just came in the mail.

user posted image

Thick cotton/khaki type material. Single layer. Won't slide worth shit. But at least it has armour pocket on hip and knees. Paid like 70 each. Just treat it as normal pants.

I wear these on the daily to work along with my other single layer jeans. Let's face it, you are not going for a long slide in city traffic. Impact protection is more important. It's a compromise I'm willing to make for cost and comfort.

Kevlar lined is just a bit too hot in daily traffic.

Slide protection or not, these are way more comfortable on a bike than normal jeans, since they are cut for riding and have stretch fabric at the correct places....and correct lenght so you don't look like wearing 3/4 pants when on the bike.
*
My riding jeans claims to be 10% Kevlar though it looks like any other regular jeans sweat.gif

Kevlar is the yellowish fabric on the inside
this page helped me decide:
https://www.servicethread.com/blog/material...ester-and-nylon

TLDR:
nylon is 10% stronger than poly, when new
nylon degrades in UV (become powder puff) - some plastics loses 75% strength after 6 days of UV exposure
nylon absorbs moisture (cooler fabric than poly)
nylon is less resistant to chemicals and petroleum products

Also, mission critical ropes such as those used in emergency services almost always use polyester. Nylon would have to be UV treated.

Ahh makes sense now. Though mine is more white than yellow, and it doesn't cover as much of an area as the pictures you posted. But seems to be most of the higher risk areas covered I guess.

QUOTE(alexei @ Nov 11 2022, 10:17 AM)
Fabric textile abrasion resistance and durability are two different aspect, with the later usually less published. Ever kena some synthetic material like jacket or windbreaker that comes apart, or disintegrate, or just rips to shreds after several years? Pay attention to the material and you shall see.

Leather also have its own grades, from different animal sources - goat, cow, kangaroo, stingray, and different grades of the same - full grain, top, etc. Some brands have their own treatment (oils, conditioners) to make their leather look and feel better.

In my experience, leather is heavier, and protects against heat from the sun. Meaning, if you stay under the sun while not moving, the leather doesn't let the heat from the sun into the rider, but you'll sweat nonetheless.

Comparing perforated leather to textile jackets with air vents, I prefer leather. Mesh jacket is "better than nothing" category.
*
My RS Taichi textile/mesh jacket is 5 years old now and if not because of a small hole from my previous crash, I kid you not, is still in perfect condition, even the internal liner. I guess RS Taichi uses some very nice textile for their jacket to last this long with pretty regular use.

Which perforated leather jacket do you use though?

i bought earplugs and it arrived yesterday.  Not sure if i've gotten the wrong earplugs (mack's pillosoft silicone putty earplug), but the isolation is very good. too good till i forgot to even shift to 6th gear.. The wind noise did reduce alot tho. I'm getting used to the isolation feeling. It is still quite a weird sensation for me, going to 100% road noise to like 20% road noise does feel a little eerie at times.
*
I had been using Musician's earplugs from shopee for 3 years already, reduced the total sound by quite a significant amount, but not as much as regular earplugs and also maintains the sound quality from my Cardo relatively well. The exact link I bought from had already long expired, but these are pretty much identical from what I bought.

One time save up for a Cardo.

I'm using a Cardo Freecom 4+, 3 years still going strong. Commute to work and back daily, still lasts 2-4 weeks on a charge 30-45 minutes of use with music. Volume pretty loud too as I'm wearing musicians earplugs.

My experience with a cheap freedcon unit is that the volume is pretty soft, even without earplugs once you hit highway speed you struggle hearing what's coming out of the speakers. Call quality on the Cardo is extremely good too, people on the other end is completely oblivious that you're riding a bike.

If you don't mind used, I might want to sell my Freecom 4+ though, thinking of upgrading to the latest packtalk as my riding buddy just upgraded to that too.

Very informative. Thank you. I struggle to find a sena distributor in Malaysia though. Kinda stuck on model 50S.

Don't bother with sena, get Cardo instead. Waterproof and sound quality is much better than sena especially the higher end model.

Neo just announced..haven't hit MY yet..

AFAIK Malaysia didn't bring in the twin pack, but if you do find someone selling, do drop me a pm we share hehe

The old bold/black got twin pack, but the new edge apparently the local distributor never bring in twin pack

QUOTE(toos99 @ Jan 4 2023, 08:12 PM)
Are you sure Cardo really on top of sena in terms of audio?
*
I only tested my friend's Sena SRL which is supposed to be on the same level as Sena's higher end offerings and wasn't impressed at all with the sound quality especially when compared side by side with a Cardo. Ended up purchasing a Freecom 4+ because it was slimmer and didn't really needed the extra features of the packtalk at that time. My friend who had the SRL on his shoei also ended up switching to the packtalk bold, then now the packtalk edge.

QUOTE(toos99 @ Jan 4 2023, 08:13 PM)
If anyone going for a dual for cardo/sena, I don’t mind sharing.
*
I already offered myself, or you can also purchase my current freecom 4+ used laugh.gif

QUOTE(ajaibman @ Jan 4 2023, 08:41 PM)
I used Sena 20S Evo, 10C, and currently Cardo Packtalk Bold/Black.

In terms of Mesh connectivity, Cardo is better, but I guess need to compare it with Sena 30 and 50 which have never been used before. The Apps are also way better than Sena which looks like still running  Java Applet.

In terms of audio quality, Sena is louder, and you can use it with a Jet or Half face helmet without worry, Cardo tends to be softer but has better (slight) bass and you need to really align it with your earlobe to get the best of it.

Almost forgot cardio has this wind self cancelling feature, so it won't pick up the wind sound while riding. It's useful for open face helmets
*
Damn I thought the Cardo app was pretty barebones, and the sena is worse?

Regarding the loudness, I find myself hitting max volume at times with my musician's earplugs already, so if you're using a regular earplug, the Cardo might really not be loud enough.

Also can check fortnine reviews on comms, Cardo always comes out on top of sena if not mistaken.

The edge has a magnetic clip on that neo will not have. That’s the only significant different besides edge can be charged whilst in use. Not sure if that’s necessary.

Think the edge might have discount again once neo launches? I’m opened to both but magnetic sounds more convenient. Not like I’ve used either so just saying
*
I'm using the Cardo Freecom 4+ and the regular clip base is pretty good and convenient already for me. Another difference is less 1yr warranty if not mistaken, at least for the US market. Not sure about our local units.

Or a cheap cheap one from china. Claims to be viscous-elastic like D3o.

Use first until can afford a proper CE2 back pad from a branded manufacturer. Still loads better than the useless foam ones that serves as a placeholder only.
I have one. it is very thick, about 15mm. Vents decently. Cons, quite heavy.
Replaced it with this;

Its lighter and ventilates better. But effectivenes is anyones' guess. Paid 85 on discount. Both is from same seller and same brand.
