I swear by the Healtech Thunderbox.

It's fused, it automatically senses the switched load to trigger itself on, it's programmable and it's literally idiot-proof. Makes rigging up your DVR & aux spotlights super easy - fuck the wire splicing, relays and tapping into a switched circuit to trigger the relay etc coz all you hv to do is just plug the +ve & -ve into this baby, while it does all the rest.

When you have an electronic-everything bike and you're scared you're just one bad wire tap away from a total electronic breakdown, this thing is worth its weight in gold.

Reached out to the local distributor. Apparently it's a preorder only item. No wonder it's not on their fb shop. The fused and on ignition power on a small build is a big plus since removes the need for tapping to fusebox.

Yup, you just hook it up to the battery and that's it. It just works and you get a total of 16 amps to play around with instantly. The power is clean as it is sourced directly from the batt without a relay, totally separated from the bike's circuits.

New bikes equipped with CANBUS scare me. Since they also use the same wiring loom to send electronic signals everywhere, one wrong tap and you'll start getting glitches in the electronics.

Thank you. What’s the relevance of having others using the same brand/model? Do they not link if not the same?

One time save up for a Cardo.

I'm using a Cardo Freecom 4+, 3 years still going strong. Commute to work and back daily, still lasts 2-4 weeks on a charge 30-45 minutes of use with music. Volume pretty loud too as I'm wearing musicians earplugs.

My experience with a cheap freedcon unit is that the volume is pretty soft, even without earplugs once you hit highway speed you struggle hearing what's coming out of the speakers. Call quality on the Cardo is extremely good too, people on the other end is completely oblivious that you're riding a bike.

If you don't mind used, I might want to sell my Freecom 4+ though, thinking of upgrading to the latest packtalk as my riding buddy just upgraded to that too.

Sometimes it's worth it to get premium brands, Cardo/Sena, the likes.
If only use solo, then most things will work.

If you're a solo rider, then can use cardo Spirit or Spirit HD(longer range and larger speaker). Me and my brother we use Spirit while riding to on highway. Can communicate if you're like 150m at max. It'll disconnect if too far but good thing is it'll auto connect back when you're close.

For The Bluetooth system, yes they universal .. either 4.2 or 5.1 version. this the connectivity to your phone/gps unit or other bluetooth enable devices.

But for intercom, which is full duplex communication between one helmet to another, many are using closed system which only can interact and paired with the same model/brand.

This would not be a problem if you often ride solo or with your pillion only. But if ride in the group you might need to consider to have uniformed intercom devices.

Very informative. Thank you. I struggle to find a sena distributor in Malaysia though. Kinda stuck on model 50S.

They don’t have a feature called universal pairing? Maybe we don’t get the mesh intercom feature only? Gonna be hard to have a complete gang on the same model intercom

I am considering a Cardo... bold or neo... buy once cry once.. who else wants to get... we can get a twin pack and share...cheaper than buying single units.

Neo just announced..haven't hit MY yet..

Some premium brand has that feature, but usually it will simulate as phone connectivity using bluetooth to another intercom, so if your unit can have only one bluetooth channel meaning you only can pair with your riding buddies and not your phone at the same time.

And in the time of disconnection, it might not be auto reconnect, need to do some manual action to reconnect back at least.(the experience is not seamless)

Don't bother with sena, get Cardo instead. Waterproof and sound quality is much better than sena especially the higher end model.

I used Sena 20S Evo, 10C, and currently Cardo Packtalk Bold/Black.

In terms of Mesh connectivity, Cardo is better, but I guess need to compare it with Sena 30 and 50 which have never been used before. The Apps are also way better than Sena which looks like still running Java Applet.

In terms of audio quality, Sena is louder, and you can use it with a Jet or Half face helmet without worry, Cardo tends to be softer but has better (slight) bass and you need to really align it with your earlobe to get the best of it.

Almost forgot cardio has this wind self cancelling feature, so it won't pick up the wind sound while riding. It's useful for open face helmets
