I really wanted to get the Iphone 15 Pro Max for the camera but was sorely disapointed that it only has 5X optical zoom, the price is also ridiculous.... Looks like I will wait for the S24 Ultra in Feb.

Yeah, once you’re in the ecosystem, it’s hard to get out. I use an Android phone for work and I’ve tried most brands - Android has come a long way and I won’t say it’s less stable than iOS, it’s just every brand have their own interpretation and interface so it just feels less consistent than iOS coz Apple freaking controls everything - good or bad. I currently have a Pixel 6A and I’d argue the computational photography is better than that on the iPhone (gasps!)
