It is not advisable to bathe gliders as their fur is really-really water absorbent.

If bathing is needed, one must do it very-very quickly in less than 2-3 mins possible and dry them up very-very fast.

Drying method is also tedious as you cannot use a hairdryer on them because it can burn their sensitive ears.

So if you do not know how, best not to at all. There is a case where a glider actually drowned and died sad.gif

You can always use baby wipes for minor wiping and cleaning.

Hi Everyone here,

I am new here and read alot of information here.

I seen a few pair of Joeys in JB for sale and intend to buy a pair. Need to get the answer for the following questions before buying them.

Is Sugar Glider consider an endanger spies? Do you need a permit to keep them in Malaysia?

Would appreciate if someone can give me the answer.

Thank you.
*
No license needed but I wish there was coz too many people are simply keeping them without thinking of the glider's well being and also long lifespan.

gliders need constant socializing, lots of attention, special care on their diet and also a large cage. Do more research yah, coz research doesn't cost a sen, just some time.

QUOTE(krynzpeaches @ Oct 9 2007, 08:58 AM)
malboy98,

Nope, unfortunately keeping gliders here in Malaysia does not need a permit or license.

And nope, they are not endangered species.

However, the care and maintenance is very important in keeping a glider, so do be well prepared before getting them.

-----

Haizzz, kesian also kesian, but we can't do anything.

Just going there to watch or see them in such condition is heartbreaking especially when knowing the fact that you can't do nothing to help.

Out of pouch joeys does not have wet furs, it could be wet because of something else or the conditioned they are kept in.

Damn, if only I could burn those shop down vmad.gif (ofcourse I'll free the animals first and lock the owners inside tongue.gif)

Wet fur is caused by humidity, pee and also unclean living conditions. Poor things....

Iggy looks good lah. Means really successful neutering heheheh.

nice pics you have there KP

keep them coming thumbup.gif

ps : out of curiosity, have ur joey ever bit u ? i mean till it bleed
*
Joeys rarely bite till bleed unless you make them so afraid.

QUOTE(NewbieBetta @ Oct 9 2007, 04:20 PM)
can get rid anot like using whitening shampoo on them.. tongue.gif only on the belly
*
Bathing glider is not advisable.... whitening shampoo is a no no too coz it contains whitening agents which could cause harm. A glider's skin and fur are much more different than a dog. So never think that using those conditioner or shampoos for dogs.

Even if you want to bath one, the best is either use baby shampoo or mild diluted puppy shampoo. There is a quick technique to use and if you do not know how to bath a glider, it can lead to death...

I see, after i freeze it, i feel like harder than previous 1 ( quite like ice stone, not ice-cream, but it still can scoop it out like ice-cream biggrin.gif ).

Just now i have add very very little bit water and it will become thick already. Hope Ah Pit like the new flavour.

Thank you crazymouse_yyh for the info biggrin.gif

Hi All Bros,

Thank you all for the information.

I think I will get a pair to keep and play with them as they look cute. The breeder in JB told me is very easy to keep and he is selling at RM250 each.

Thanks again.

Still got pix, better than nothing tongue.gif

Do you use the auto flash?

I don't really like too, but if not using flash, will become very blur.

By now they are used to it already, whenever flash, they'll give me this big googly eye look like "oii"... laugh.gif

Adult male gliders will become botak if you do not neuter them. This is because they have a scent gland on their forehead which will cause the fur to drop off easily.

That is why you have to learn everything about gliders before getting them and love them as they are, with botak head, yellowish belly and sometimes smelly butt tongue.gif

Yes, gliders are not cheap because they are exotics not like hamsters.

I wish they could've cost more infact.

They can also live up to 10-15 years, so RM300 is nothing if you divide by 10 years lah.

Yes, they are very fast and must never be left roaming/exploring without supervision, unless you don't mind losing them.

Yes, they are active when they are awake and need lots of space to move around and glide. If they go missing or hiding, it will surely take you some time to find them and lotsa luck.

NEVER TRUST A BREEDER OR SELLER THAT SAYS KEEPING GLIDERS ARE EASY - PERIOD!

Please, please, please look up more and do proper research before getting them.

Do you have a sound understanding about gliders?

Do you have the time for them?

Do you have the patience to bond or train them?

Do you have the space for them? (Because they will need a big cage)

Are you able to prepare fresh foods for them late at night and early mornings? (This is their feeding time as they are nocturnal creatures)

Do you know their diet?

These are some of the things to ponder.

If you need to learn more or know about anything, please feel free to ask and we will try and help you the best we can.
