SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The creator of classic computer game "Doom," id Software, unveiled on Friday its eagerly anticipated next game, "Rage," in which players fight an oppressive government in a post-apocalyptic world.
The new game will be released for computers running either Microsoft Corp's (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Windows or Apple Inc's (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) Macintosh operating system, as well as Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony Corp's (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) PlayStation 3 video game consoles.
"It's a bit of a classic story and you are the outsider who comes in and tries to turn the tide in favor of good," id Chief Executive Todd Hollenshead said in an interview.
"Rage" is being built with all-new graphics technology designed by id co-founder John Carmack, who showed off the game at id's annual "QuakeCon" event in Dallas, Texas.
Privately held id did not give a release date for "Rage" or the name of the publisher. Activision Inc (ATVI.O: Quote, Profile, Research), the second-biggest U.S. video game publisher, handles other id games such as "Doom 3" and the upcoming "Enemy Territories: Quake Wars."
Since the breakaway success of "Doom" in 1993 established the "first-person shooter" as a major gaming genre, id's games have been characterized by fast-and-furious gunplay and claustrophobic environments.
"Rage" will represent somewhat of a stylistic break by letting players roam expansive outdoor areas.
"In addition to the shooting elements and killing bad guys with cool guns -- everyone knows we can do that well -- we wanted to show off some stuff that would surprise people," Hollenshead said.
The graphics technology, or engine, underpinning "Rage" is also important since id makes one of a handful of such software packages that are licensed by other game makers.
Hollenshead said the new "tech5" engine would make it easier for developers to design games that are better looking and can be easily modified to run on different gaming systems, a process that normally takes months and pushes up costs.
"It allows a single studio team to make four versions of our game without outside help," Hollenshead said. "You can have massive outdoor environments and make them look glorious down to pixel level without any performance issues."
Well since it's from ID i do expect a very good graphic but very very friendly system requirement. I still remember when doom 3 first announced and many of us are worry about the hardware spec, but end up it can run very well on moderate comp.
(I still very 'proud' that I complete crysis with 5 fps all the time)

wow. i would not touch a game that i can't play 30fps above. respect to you.

People will always find a way to hack and modify a game.
"You play a survivor from the past; one of many people placed inside a "cryo-ark" buried safely beneath the surface. The plan was that when it was safe to return to the surface, after the impact winter and the dust settled, your ark would emerge, and you would then work with the other ark inhabitants to rebuild society. But that plan went haywire. More people survived the impact than anyone predicted, and those survivors rebuilt society on their own without a government, without laws or rules. When your ark emerges and you begin the game, you discover a world that is much different than what you expected -- much harsher, much more dangerous. There are a number of different factions that are vying for control in the wasteland. There are settlers, mutants, and different clans of bandits, all fighting to survive and for control.
As the game begins, the first thing you need to do in this world is learn to survive on your own. Then you must work with the settlers against the bandits and mutants. Ultimately, you will align yourself with a small resistance group fighting against a mysterious force in the wasteland called the "Authority" -- a regime-like government bent on controlling everything. "
Rage runs at 60 FPS on PC (naturally) Posted Jul 31st 2009 10:00AM by John Callaham Filed under: Action, FPS, Rage
id Software's upcoming post-apocalyptic action game Rage may be coming to other platforms besides the PC but in terms of performance PC owners will love this bit of news. According to id's master programmer John Carmack (being interviewed by Computer and Video Games) the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game will run at a perfect 60 frames per second.
That's compared to the PS3 version which Carmack says runs only at 30 fps. He states, "The PS3 lags a little bit behind in terms of getting the performance out of it. The rasteriser is just a little bit slower - no two ways about that." Oh and for you Mac fans, Rage is confirmed to still be coming to that platform as well. We bet Macs go up to 60 fps too.

John Carmack has always hated the PS3... In this case, its something to do with its smaller VRAM compared to the 360 (Which limited id Tech4's texture compression system).
So, (Like Valve), if you're predisposed against a platform, the game you're making is obviously not going to perform at its best.
Aggroboy: I don't think Sony "intentionally" did that (Why?)... It would be like if BMW made all their factory tools to be covered in barb wire so that it would be "harder" to assemble.

Hmm despite the awesome mega textures, the skybox looks a bit low res in that demo. Maybe its a pre beta thing.
Added on June 18, 2010, 9:20 pmAlso noticed the poor water particles FX. Hmmm maybe porting this to console has compromised the visual fidelity of those little small details.

Tech 5 as a multi-platform engine will likely be behind time when it comes out. There is nothing in there that other engines couldn't do.
Previously they were able to cheat at the graphics curve by relying on insane system requirements, but with static console specs I'm guessing other engines/middlewares will eat Id for breakfast.
I still remember playing doom 3 for 5 times. and its expansion ressurrection of evil for 3 times. what can i say, i'm a hardcore fps maniac. the best, most satisfying shooting experience in doom series. ID rocks!!!!
If you weren't already planning to pre-order Rage, developer id Software came up with a few incentives as extra encouragement. Currently confirmed only for North America, everyone who pre-orders Rage from participating retailers Gamestop, Amazon.com, Steam, and Direct-to-Drive will be automatically upgraded to the "Anarchy" edition.
QUOTE
This special version includes four in-game items that won't be available elsewhere:
* Double Barrel Shotgun: The classic id weapon, this time in a one-handed version
* Crimson Elite Armor: On exiting the Arc, players must don new armor for the wasteland. This special version combines all three attribute boosts of the individual armors otherwise available
* Fists of RAGE: a powerful melee weapon good for laying a wallop on mutants who get too close
* Rat Rod Buggy: a custom ride that replaces the standard issue buggy in the game
The Anarchy edition also includes the Wasteland sewer missions, an extra set of adventures that take place in a series of tunnels and old abandoned structures underground.
While September is still a ways off, id also released a five minute trailer featuring gameplay from a mission into the dead city to retrieve defibrillator parts from an old hospital. It one of the levels I got to play during Bethesda's demo event and will have impressions of coming shortly in a full Rage preview. Until then, check out the video and see how Rage looks in action for yourself.
Added on April 22, 2011, 5:05 pmok wait, rephrase, i definitely getting it after seeing the new video. now is just seriously thinking do i need to get a new rig or not, cause it seem like it is runnable on even ipad. or iphone, so might as well wait and see does it really so optimized or ("dumb" down for console)?

Rage producer thinks id ready for Quake and Wolfenstein
QUOTE
I recently spoke with Jason Kim, senior producer at id Software, currently working on Rage. In relating some of the higher level thinking behind the decision to do a new IP as the big game out of the gate for id tech 5, Kim talked about how the studio has evolved.
Our studio has grown a lot, not just in size but also in design and art process, and even a technology standpoint. John has admitted he can't do everything on his own. There are a lot of smart guys that are required to be able to make a game these days. He can't just lock himself up in a room, come out with an engine, and say okay, make a game with this.
With that change in philosophy and a larger studio, projects that previously went to outside studios could return to id.
We have Quake; we have Wolfenstein. If people want that, we have the IPs to deliver it. And we have a different approach now; we're forging a new path. I think we can freshen those things up...we don't have anything in the works right now but I think when we start talking about different things we can do with the other properties that we have I hope people are receptive to what we want to do and what we think would be fun for players to experience coming out of id Software.
With Rage coming out later this year, it wouldn't be out of the question that id could announce a new project at QuakeCon later this year.
Look for the full version of my conversation with Kim tomorrow here on Shack.
RAGE PC will ship w/ mod tools, new gameplay video
QUOTE
PC Gamer reports that the PC version of id Software's upcoming FPS will include a full range of mod tools, including the level editor, out of the box. As creative director Tim Willits puts it, "Pull down the console, type ‘id studio’, then press enter. Then, bam, there’s all the tools we use."
In other RAGE news, they've released another 5-minute gameplay video. The key-prompts make it seem like this video is from the PC version of the game, but the aiming is pretty sluggish, so I'm not sure. Anyhow, you get to see a lot of the various gadgets in this one, like a spider-bot, sentry turret, and explosive R/C car:
Free Anarchy Edition upgrades for UK pre-orders of id's Rage

E3 2011: Carmack "very excited for where we'll go" with Rage 2
QUOTE
Rage is yet to get booted out the id Software doors and into our laps but tech wizard John Carmack is impressed with the "very beneficial" features of the game.
It isn't all running and gunning like id's previous efforts, as its got "towns, driving and exploration" that "doesn't detract" from the action. Rage 2 seems certain.
"While we have corridor shooter maps in Rage, there’s much more to it. It has all of the driving and the exploration and the towns that come in,” said id's technical director John Carmack, named by Rage's creative director as the most important guy in the industry.
“It doesn’t detract from the shooting at all. It can still be an incredibly fast, guns blazing action shooter, but when you’re taking a break from that you can kit yourself out with extra stuff. All of the towns, driving and exploration have turned out to be very beneficial to the game. I’m very excited for where we’ll go with this in Rage 2,” he continued.
Rage releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC September 13th in the US, 16th in Europe. A ton of gameplay footage has been showcased at E3 this week - check some out below.
E3: id's Carmack, Willits Happy To Be Done With Engine Licensing
QUOTE
Last year, id Software confirmed that it would no longer license its engine technology to developers outside of the umbrella of corporate parent Zenimax, which also owns The Elder Scrolls developer and publisher Bethesda Softworks.
The move was a surprise -- id had become known for licensing its tech for games ranging from American McGee's Alice to Call of Duty, even releasing its tech for free after a few years. Technology sharing, whether through licensing partnerships or through a free release of id Tech, seemed to be part of id's DNA, and the studio's acquisition by Zenimax helped put an end to that.
But id co-founder and lead programmer John Carmack told Gamasutra at E3 that he's happy to be out of the engine licensing business, as the studio concentrates on finishing id Tech 5-powered Rage and continues work on the further-off Doom 4.
"It's interesting when you look at our technology licensing -- it was never really a business that I wanted to be in," he said. "In the very early days, people would pester us, and we'd just throw out some ridiculous terms, and we were surprised when people started taking us up on it."
"I didn't want to be in the process of supporting a lot of outside teams, because you feel beholden to not make radical changes when it's going to pull the rug out from lots of other people," he explained. "When it's your own team, you can make the sensible decision that [a big change] is going to be worth it, that it's going to suck for a while, but we make our way through it. But you don't want to do that to other people."
Gears of War developer Epic Games is a dominant force in engine licensing in this console generation, and Carmack acknowledged that company's success in that area.
"Epic's done a really good job of building up a support structure for [engine licensing]. The market was ours to keep, but we abdicated because we weren't willing to put that effort into it. We didn't want half our company to be about managing technology licensing. Epic has gone and done a great job with it."
"If you have a team that's up to speed and going great with Unreal technology, I don't care at all. It's not a personal affront to me if somebody wants to choose a different technology to build a game upon," he said.
He added that id Tech 5 is "not magic," and the engine is good for certain kinds of games such as Rage, but not as much for games such as Grand Theft Auto that render cities with lots of surface area.
"The megatexture direction [in id Tech 5] has some big wins, but it's also fairly restrictive on certain types of games," he said. "It would be a completely unacceptable engine to do [Bethesda's Elder Scrolls V:] Skyrim in, where you've got the whole world, walking across these huge areas."
id Software creative director Tim Willits said in a separate Gamasutra E3 interview that dropping engine licensing was a welcome change. "For us, it was such a burden off our back. Licensing is a big pain, it really is. ... We always wanted to focus on the games, so it was a nice relief for us not to have to do that."
"... But John is still very active in open source," Willits said, "and we're the only ones that release our source now to such an extensive level, and the PC version [of Rage] will have the SDK ... all that stuff will be available. The spirit of [Carmack's] sense of sharing and working with the community, that's still pretty intact. I wouldn't stress too much about it."
The official site for id Software's upcoming open-world shooter seems to have stealthily delivered some bad news for those anxiously awaiting the game's release. It now says the release date for RAGE is October 4th, a full three weeks later than the previously listed date of September 13th.
So, it's not anything major, but October is becoming PACKED. There are at least half a dozen other big titles already scheduled for that month, including Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City.
Doom 4 multiplayer to get "quality feel that Rage has" at 60 FPS
QUOTE
John Carmack of id Software reveals that as soon as Rage is completed, he and the other "core tech team" members will be focusing everything on Doom 4.
While singleplayer on consoles is 30 frames per second so they can have "30 demons crawling all over," multiplayer will kick it back up to Rage's 60 FPS.
"...as soon as Rage ships, the core tech team moves over to start making things happen on the Doom 4 project," revealed id's John Carmack, the studio's technical director.
"There's me and the systems programmer types that have been on Rage for so long. We're going to move over to the Doom team and a lot of resources are going to migrate over there." It's how a big studio like them must operate now, he explained.
"The only thing I've really talked about on Doom 4, technology-wise, is that we did make the decision that...well, my biggest pride and joy about Rage is that I won the fight for 60 frames per second on there, but it involves significant trade-offs."
Those 'trade-offs' are not having huge numbers of enemies on screen. "You can't have 30 guys crawling all over you at 60 frames per second at this graphics technology level because it's painful. It's a lot of effort to do that," explained the veteran programmer.
"But, we did make the call that for Doom 4, the single-player is going to go 30 frames per second on the consoles. So we can have 30 demons crawling all over you on there. But the multiplayer is still going to be 60 frames per second, so it has the quality feel that Rage has." Are you looking forward to Doom 4? It releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Rage to sell "two-thirds plus" on console predicts id Software
QUOTE
First-person shooter poster child id Software believes Rage will be outgunning PC sales by quite the margin, at least according to the "napkin math" of it all.
CEO Todd Hollenshead feels "two-thirds plus" will be the likely split between console and PC. The studio "forbid anybody" using keyboard and mouse first.
"I'm not in the sales forecast business, and I don't want to be making projections for the company on the basis of that. But if we're just going to do napkin math, that's as good as any," said id Software co-owner and CEO Todd Hollenshead.
Rage is leading on the consoles as id follow the math. "Maybe it's 70 per cent among the consoles and 30 on the PC, or maybe 75, 25. But we're still talking two-thirds plus of the sales being on PS3 or Xbox 360," he continued.
"In game development, you have to tailor your gameplay to where you expect people to play it on," he said. "So, while we're developing Rage on the PC, we forbid anybody from playing it on a keyboard and mouse until we've played it first on a console controller."
"We pull the keyboard and mouse out and put in a USB 360 controller, even on the development staff. That's not just the testers." Porting from the PC version to console is the old way of thinking and it gets you into trouble he observes: "That was the way we did it in the past. Ultimately, we learnt that's not the way you should do it."
"We had the discussions early on with Rage about what platforms we were going to go on. If we're going to expect one third, one third and one third of sales to be across those three platforms, so that means two-thirds of our sales are going to be on console, we're going to make sure we have that gameplay feel tight first."
Rage releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC October 7th.
"Strong factions internally" at id Software fancy returning the Quake series to its roots and the Lovecraftian-y stylings of the original Quake, id's technical wizard John Carmack has told Eurogamer. However, he makes quite clear, "Nothing is scheduled here, people are not building this."
"We went from the Quake II and the Quake 4 Strogg universe. We are at least tossing around the possibilities of going back to the bizarre, mixed up Cthulhu-ish Quake 1 world and rebooting that direction," Carmack said. "We think that would be a more interesting direction than doing more Strogg stuff after Quake 4."
"We certainly have strong factions internally that want to go do this," he explained. "But we could do something pretty grand like that, that still tweaks the memory right in all of those ways, but is actually cohesive and plays with all of the strengths of the level we're at right now."
The first Quake was a Doom-y shooter set in a moody fantasy dimension with Lovecraftian references, populated by hordes of demons. However, it also had plenty of industrial complexes, soldiers, and military weaponry. The mix-up stemmed from shifting focus during development; originally is was to star a Thor-like character with a mighty hammer, and feature RPG elements.
"I looked at the original Quake as this random thing, because we really didn't have our act together very well," Carmack said. "But because it was so seminal about the 3D world and the internet gaming, it's imprinted on so many people. It made such an impact in so many ways. Memory cuts us a lot of slack."
1997's Quake II had a whole new setting, pitting players against the techno-organic Strogg. Quake 4 continued the Strogg story in 2005, after 1999's Quake III: Arena largely did away single-player to focus on multiplayer.
id CEO Todd Hollenshead added, "People shouldn't worry that we're ever going to orphan or abandon Quake. We are huge fans of the game internally."
id's next game will be Rage, which is headed to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on October 4. Beyond that, id has been teasing Doom 4 but not yet revealed it.
If Doom 4 is the true sequel of Doom 1 and 2 series (tons of monsters to shoot, getting surround by them, tons of weapons to choose, HEALTHPACK and ARMOR, Intense and Fast Multiplayer deathmatch, dedicated server support, MODS).... I think I just had an orgasm.

Yes please. None of these fancy 2-weapon limit and regenerating health.
I remember one of their programmers left to become main engine taikor for first World of Warcraft, a game whose graphics can still look good after so many years.
John Carmack: 'Unquestionable' That Mobile Will Surpass Current Consoles
QUOTE
id Software's John Carmack has taken a greater and greater interest in mobile gaming over the last couple years, and the rate at which the hardware iterates in the smartphone and tablet space has allowed the technology to nearly catch up with consoles. In a recent interview with Carmack, IndustryGamers asked whether mobile could become so popular that it'll one day overtake traditional console gaming.
"That’s one of the things that we do discuss internally a lot and it’s amazing to think that when we started Rage, iOS didn’t exist. There was no iPhone. All of that has happened just in the space of one project development timeline. And that’s a little scary when you think about it, because major landscape change could be happening underneath our feet as we work on these large scale projects," noted Carmack. "And we’re going to be doing everything we can to constrain our projects more to not take so long."
He continued, "One thing that we hear a lot, especially from our older developers, is, 'I don’t spend a lot of time sitting down in front of my 360 or PS3, but I pull out my iPad and play some little game all the time.' It’s a different experience though... it’s a diversion rather than a destination. And while they’re certainly powerful enough now to make destination titles, that’s still not really what’s doing particularly well there. But it certainly is a worry. Could the bottom drop out on the triple A market because everyone’s playing Angry Birds? It doesn’t seem to be happening. The numbers don’t show that. We’re selling more big titles than ever before, despite having all of these other platforms out there. So it looks like it’s parallel growth rather than one stealing from the other. But platform wise, you could certainly imagine a future where, instead of having your console, you have your mobile device and it talks to your TV and when you want the experience on your big screen with the surround sound coming out of there, it’s still on the same device."
Ultimately, Carmack does see mobile hardware becoming very powerful very quickly. It's incredible to think that we'll have tiny smartphones more powerful than the PS3 in our pockets at all times, but that day is approaching fast and it could drastically change the industry - that and cloud gaming, says Carmack.
"it’s unquestionable that within a very short time, we’re going to have portable cell phones that are more powerful than the current-gen consoles," he told us. "People have exaggerated the relative powers - the iPad2 is not more powerful than the 360. It’s still a factor of a couple weaker. But the fact that it’s gotten that close that fast - that means that almost certainly, 2 years from now, there will be mobile devices more powerful than what we’re doing all these fabulous games on right now."
He also observed that as technology has advanced, he's been thinking about how best to take advantage in his game design. "I think a lot about the value that we extract from the technical horsepower that we’re given. You make different trades each time. ... I started off developing technology to be like, 'OK, I can out graphics all of this stuff on the same level here.' But I quickly reached the decision, the realization, that rather than trying to make 'pretty damn good plus one' pictures on there, I’d rather try and make pretty damn good pictures at 60 frames per second, and that’s a good example of not pushing graphics as the only thing."
He added, "And convenience is a huge thing. I think that mobile is getting a lot of wins on convenience and I do think that streaming services like OnLive have a future. It’s not at all clear that the existing ones will survive long enough for that future to get there, but I think that it’s almost unquestionable that if you look 5, 10 years in the future, that that type of delivery - even though it’s not going to necessarily be the same graphical quality of latency quality, but a whole lot of convenience can make up for [what's lacking]. So I do wonder if the mobile platforms might get more and more of that going for them, where it provides a good enough experience for [most people] - there’s a whole spectrum of people and there’s a whole spectrum of game concepts and directions. You have the completely casual people that have no interest in buying a PS3. And then you’ve got the hard core people who want to sit down all weekend and stay in a position where they can get 20 hours of gameplay in."
Carmack said that the uncompressed build of Rage encompasses a terrabyte of data, and that id will need to use a "different type of compression" to fit the game on two dual-layer Xbox 360 DVDs.
Carmack also noted his belief that neither Doom 4 or Rage will be digitally distributed online, as id isn't looking into that sort of distribution for its major titles at this point.
Look like the game is too big for a steam download
Videogame pioneer and father of the first person shooter John Carmack is tired of the current backlash that first person shooters have been suffering at the hands of what he calls "snooty" shooter haters, and the implication that somehow first person shooters are synonymous with a lack of creativity.
During an interview with Industry Gamers about id Software's upcoming game, Rage, Carmack described it as a game that is "not just, 'Here's your squadmates.' But that's still a proven formula that people like, and it's a mistake to (discount that). As long as people are buying it, it means they're enjoying it. If they buy the next Call of Duty, it's because they loved the last one and they want more of it."
This opened the door for his disdain for people intimating that shooters lack creativity, "So I am pretty down on people who take the sort of creative auteurs' perspective. It's like 'Oh, we're not being creative.' But we're creating value for people -- that's our job! It's not to do something that nobody's ever seen before. It's to do something that people love so much they're willing to give us money for."
"So I do get pretty down on people that -- you see some of the indie developers that really take a snooty attitude about this," Carmack added, "It's almost as if it's popular, it's not good. And that's just not true."
Part of the current backlash is due to the enormous cash cow that Call of Duty has become, but there has been plenty of evidence that shooters can be creative and artistic, as Ken Levine's upcoming BioShock Infinite proves.
Not that Carmack cares, who states bluntly ,"As long as people are buying it, it means they're enjoying it."

Rage is "basically done," id now in "polish and refinement" stage
QUOTE
Four years ago a little videogame project called Rage was announced by Doom developer id Software, and now it's "basically done" says executive Tim Willits.
They're in a "great place" as it reaches the final stretch of polishing. Put simply it's "different" from Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein - "it really is the best game."
"It's going to be available this fall so we are in the polish and refinement stage which is a great place to be. Now we have all the content done and played through the game and got a real sense for it," revealed creative director Tim Willits.
"I'll be honest with you, it's exciting," he added. "It's different from Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein. It has so much to offer: the vehicle combat, the weapons, the ammo types, the items, the story. It really is the best game."
Some of that polish time will be dedicated to smoothing out the textures for the console versions, but they're confident tech wizard John Carmack can handle it.
The console version is "different to PC in that most of the data is read from the disc; we have the texture page in the texture cache. At times you will see some stuff in the distance loading in... of course, John is working on getting that as final as possible."
Rage releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC October 7th. Is it a must have you for?
You've been waiting to get your mitts on the source code to Doom 3 (how do you type with those mitts on?), and your time is almost here. First announced at QuakeCon 2009, John Carmack confirmed plans today, during QuakeCon 2011, to release the source to the 2004 FPS following the launch of id's new hotness, Rage. The code will be released this year.
According to VG247's liveblog, Carmack said in his keynote that these releases of Id code are a "challenge to other developers," and are beneficial to both Id and "the community." They're also a QuakeCon tradition -- last year, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Return to Castle Wolfenstein were opened up.
In related news, the Doom & Quake Complete Pack is on sale on Steam right now for $30.
If you want to get a smooth performance of Rage on the Xbox 360, you should install it to the hard drive. However, the install will be a whopping 22GB, according to id Software, taking up a major chunk of space on the hard drive, especially if you have one of the older hard drives (and forget the 20GB HD, too.)
"On the 360 we don’t have a partial install option; it’s all or nothing, which is kind of unfortunate," id Software co-founder John Carmack stated, "It means you have to install 21/22GB of stuff which takes a long time but if you’ve got it and you play it on the 360 that’s the way to go."
The PlayStation 3 version has a whole other set of issues. According to Carmack, "Once you get everything from memory that works pretty good, but if you’re coming straight from the hard drive then the first time you walk into everything from the DVD or from the Blu-ray – even worse in terms of total latency time – you listen to that Blu-ray churning around as its pulling everything in." Ouch.
PC owners will only have to deal with the insane system requirements that the game will demand, and will probably have a gigantic install space, though 500GB hard drives are on low-end systems to begin with.
Rage will be released on October 4 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
^ i think as long as ur pc GPU + CPU strong enough u can have it.... As for me.... PC is definitely no loh... since it is too old to play all this new games.
id Software looking to shorten dev cycles, stop building new engines for every game
QUOTE
id Tech 1: Doom(1993), Doom 2 (1994) id Tech 2: Quake (1996), Quake 2 (1997) id Tech 3: Quake 3 Arena (1999) id Tech 4: Doom 3 (2004) id Tech 5: Rage (2011)
Notice a trend? With the exception of the earliest id shooters, which evolved very quickly, id has been in the business of developing one game per technology platform for the last eleven years. Sure, they licensed that technology to other developers to create other id titles like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory to Quake 4 but when strictly talking about the work being done internally at id, technology and game development have gone hand in hand. But id's Todd Hollenshead knows that has to change.
"We need to get to shorter cycles," Hollenshead told VG247. "And I think part of that is that we can't be doing a revolutionary technology with every game we develop." To that end, the studio's upcoming Doom 4 will use – you guessed it – id tech 5! "We have to go to a bit more of an iterative technology approach," he admitted, adding, "I think it's a completely doable thing, but I don't think it just happens without putting some effort into it."
Luckily, with Bethesda's deep pockets backing the studio now, id is able to work on two games in parallel, without risking everything. "The capital required to put both those games in production – the means and size to do them at a triple-A level – would have been a literal "bet the company" sort of thing," Hollenshead explained. So, after Rage ships does that mean id can finally get to work on that Commander Keen reboot we've been waiting for all these years?
If You Want The Complete Rage Experience, You'd Better Buy It New
QUOTE
By now, gamers are getting accustomed to online passes for games, which give players access to early access to DLC, additional content, or even multiplayer modes. Publishers see it as a way to encourage players to pick up new copies of their games, as opposed to purchasing them on the secondary market. The upcoming shooter Rage has a similar strategy, but it's been woven into the single-player campaign.
As players explore the game's massive wastelands in id's upcoming shooter, they may come across some mysterious hatches that dot the landscape. How can you open them? Well, that's where the code that's bundled in with new copies of the game comes into play.
"If you bought the game new, [those hatches] would be open for you," says id's creative director, Tim Willits in an interview with Eurogamer. "You still have to download it, but you don't have to pay for it. Those hatches are all over. Most people never find them. But as soon as you do, you're like, oh. And then you start to look for it. That's our first-time buyer incentive.
"But as you can tell, most people never even see it. I can tell you, some people will buy Rage, download that, and still never set foot in those things. They just won't. I think that's fair. It's cool. It's outside the main path. We're not detracting from anything. But I know some consumers, when you can't avoid it, then you get a little touchy subject."
What do you think? Does this kind of strategy make you more inclined to pick up the game new, or does it turn you off entirely?
Bethesda has confirmed that the PC version of id Software's upcoming shooter, Rage, will use Steamworks as its platform. The announcement was made via Twitter earlier today.
"Since folks are asking," the Tweet said, "We can confirm that Rage will use Steamworks on PC."
Launched in early January 2008, Steamworks is a development and publishing platform for PC games that gives devs access to all components of the Steam client, including digital rights management, authenication tools for peer-to-peer and server multiplayer games, voice communication, achievements, and more. Being Steamworks specific also means the PC version of Rage can be purchased from any distributor and added to a Steam account.
As the platform has evolved, it has been made more robust with the addition of elements such as Steam Cloud support, which allows game saves to be stored in the cloud and accessed on any computer with proper account credentials.
In August 2010, a placeholder page for Rage appeared on the Steam store, leading some to believe that the game would use Valve's Steamworks platform. Bethesda quickly shot the rumor down, saying the game's appearance was in indicative of any decision regarding platform. Rumblings began going in the other direction when the official Rage website was updated to include the Games for Windows logo, pointing at the possibility of Games for Windows Live, a competitor to Steamworks, would be the platform of choice for id Software.
Comments on the announcement within the Shacknews community have been positive, but the decision to launch Rage as a Steamworks game brings to mind what could have happened if history was slightly different.
In July 2008, id Software announced it had entered into a publishing agreement with EA to release Rage via its EA Partners program. During the summer of 2009, id Software was purchased by ZeniMax Media, the holding company that controls Bethesda Softworks, taking Rage with it. With recent changes to how games are patched and how new content is made available on Steam, EA has since opted to focus on offering its upcoming titles on its own digital platform, Origin.
Had ZeniMax not purchased id Software, things may have been different today.
I really hated DOOM 3 though, that low light jump-out scares formula.
Hopefully they do better with RAGE .
me too... at first I still able to laugh at myself for jumping out of my chair, then few hours into the game, I only find it annoying. Didn't manage to finish the game
I'm actually OK with this as long as those hatches are like a few extra secret places that you have to really go out of the way to find it and not the only secrets in the game.
The idea is less intrusive and it gives people the incentives to buy a new copy instead of buying a second hand copy.
Those that choose not to buy a new copy might not even notice the hatches exist at all and they can still experience the game in full.
John Carmack No Longer 'Pretends' to Be an Executive
QUOTE
"I don't even have to pretend to be an executive anymore," said Doom creator and current Rage lead John Carmack to Gamasutra. "I don't have to go to board meetings. I don't have to do anything! I can just sit in my office and work."
It has been just over two years since Bethesda bought out id Software, providing Carmack something of a reprieve from the doldrums of wearing a suit to work everyday. The man behind some of the biggest games ever now says he is once again ‘free’ to simply get back to work.
"I take resources and a goal, and I try and put them to the best use to get us there. That's what I do. I don't want to be doing anything else."
"One of the humbling things that you find is that, no matter how good of a programmer you are, you write code, and you make stupid mistakes," he notes. "And I am getting to be a huge proponent of really, really rigorous code analysis, because I have been going through pioneering these things, just squeegeeing through our code base, and every single programmer -- from our best to our worst -- they all make stupid mistakes, and they are unavoidable. So, we need to have more automated checks on these things."
Those checks come in the form of tools - tools that the team at id are certainly using to ensure that coding is done as efficiently as possible. Carmack speaks of the professional edition for Microsoft’s Visual Studio, a package that is incredibly expensive to use for PC developers. Interestingly enough, that professional studio is completely free to use for Xbox 360 developers.
"So, Microsoft has got some pretty good static analysis tools, and normally they make you buy, like an $8,000 professional edition of Visual Studio, but they give it for free to all Xbox developers -- which I think says an interesting thing about this stuff. Where Microsoft figures that, well, nobody blames them for crappy software on Windows, but they do blame Microsoft a bit for crappy software on 360, so it's in their best interest to put more static analysis tools available there.”
Carmack is adamant that devs should embrace such a tool.
"I swear, any 360 developer that's not using that is making a mistake. It will find problems in your code base. But after we got through all of that, we made it so it's warnings as errors, nobody can check in anything that doesn't pass that. We've been going on adding additional tools like PVS Studio and PC-Lint."
Rage on PS3 requires 8GB install, Xbox 360 optional at 22GB
QUOTE
Upcoming sci-fi shooter Rage from id Software is a visual stunner, but all that pretty comes at a price - namely in the form of precious hard drive space.
The PlayStation 3 version has a mandatory install of 8GB before you can play, where as Xbox 360 can optionally install it for a whopping 22GB of HDD space.
The newer console models have plenty of HDD space to go around but for those still milling about on the 40GB or 60GB SKUs it can prove more difficult to play new games on PS3. Still this is nothing new to us PC gamers who have to install everything.
Rage releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC October 4th in the US, 7th in Europe. Xbox 360 can optionally install game data for better performance or simply run it from the disc.
If you pre-order from him early, you won't have to pay postage.
I think mostly i'll get it from DD, coz 1. i Dun have DVD-RW, 2. I use my fren DVD to make it ISO file then copy over lan to my PC, which takes a long time. So i stick bac to DD
btw, this have 4 player co-op right?

Carmack did mention about the huge texture pack previously.
Bethesda has revealed the system requirements for id Software's highly anticipated shooter Rage. While the minimum specs are within reason for most mid-level machines, the recommended specs will require a hearty rig.
Minimum:
* OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7 * Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or Equivalent AMD * Memory: 2GB * Hard Disk Space: 25GB * Video Card: GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200

Tim Willits sees "social aspect" of games as "hugely important"
QUOTE
Creative director Tim Willits of id Software, which has now completed sci-fi shooter Rage, believes single player and MMOs will splice more and more in time.
In open worlds "storytelling is key", says Willits, just like the "sheer variety" of things to do. Games will connect more but they won't "necessarily directly" compete.
"One of the reasons getting the message out about RAGE has been difficult is because it's such a different game," said id's Tim Willits in an interview. Rage is a first-person shooter set in the near distant future where Earth has suffered a terrible cataclysm.
It's an open world shooter full of quests and places to explore, some of which id recognise that some gamers won't ever discover, at least if they only play it once.
"Storytelling is key in open world games, and then just the sheer variety of things you can do. We have games like Skyrim, where there's just SO much you can do: you can develop your character the way you want, you can develop the game the way you want and play it the way you want, and that's a great trend I hope will continue to grow," he said.
"But it's the social aspect of games which is hugely important."
"In the future, I believe we will have many more games where the choices that you make in your single player game will affect games that other people play. Yes, we have massively multiplayer games now, but they're so connected and tied-in and you'll have a much more social component to many bigger games."
The creative director uses Bethesda's Fallout games as an example. "Just think of Fallout. If you went off to do something and you're playing through and you made one faction more powerful. Maybe, when your buddy gets there that faction still is," noted Willits.
"That'd just be cool! If things that you did in your game affected the universe, where you're not necessarily directly competing, but different people's outcomes are affected by what you do." Rage releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC October 4th in the US, 7th in Europe.
Its gonna be online only via matchmaking. Which official source did you hear that? There is no mention of region lockage from either Bethesda or Steam.
Just type "RAGE: region lock" then google it. The second source is tsb.com.my facebook..it say waiting the region lock confirm.
SERIOUS AR!!!!! lolz and i tot id would wow everyone this time around ... f*** man ... wasted 125 ... and i haven't even got the game yet!!!! sad news man !!

well, the original size of the game should be ~100gb,ultra-compressed to only ~25gb just to accommodate console gamers... AFAIK, iD always make PC gamers its first priority rather than console gamers...
installing now from my retail copy, is 3 disc, will post up if i see above issue show in video. cause i using low end, 9800gtx+ and core 2 duo E8200 with 2gb ram on win 7 only.
ow f.... i realy RAGE~!!! LoL, cannot install yet because is not launch yet. Ohwell, when it was 4th October, but cannot install.. hrm, so what time is it not?

It seems that the PC version of Rage is experiencing rampant glitches and bugs, as members of NeoGAF are complaining of issues. According to one NeoGAF user, "Seriously, if you are waiting on PC version don't bother right now. Something is obviously completely d---ed up on this build."
Other comments in the NeoGAF thread include:
"Anybody else's game glitching like mad? I keep getting parts of the level blacking out."
"wow the texture loading is so damn bad"
"lol if you spin in a circle real fast all the textures are blurred and the screen tears like mad wow was not expecting this still gonna give it a shot and see if they can patch it up"
In this case, the make of the graphic card has been irrelevant, since the problems have been showing up with both ATI and nVidia cards.
We'll be keeping an eye on this story, and see if id Software has an official response to what seems to be a heavily glitched launch of one of its biggest releases in years.
Despite The buggy start, ID added some epic easter for everyone, maybe the game is worth it. Also I have to put it in spoiler, click at your own risk, as it is a walkthrough to find Wolfenstein 3D and Quake 1 easter egg, but the spoiler is worth it, you must see, imo.

ur gonna have to wait for reviews by fellow LYN then, including me.. my copy from pbbseller just reached kajang,so shud be able to install/play at the very earliest this evening
After DNF, another big title, big creators, big size of file (21GB) but....fail the gamers expectation... Who know after this BF3 & MW3 follow the same path....(really hope not)
Just received my copy from pbseller. Will try it once i get back home from work today. Btw how do we know it's an Anarchy Edition? On the game cover doesn't mentioned it's a Anarchy edition. Prolly need to activate it in Steam.

Doom 3 was OpenGL. Quake 1, 2, 3, 4 was OpenGL. Prey was OpenGL and they all had graphic tweaking options.
It's a (silly) decision by Id not to let PC users muck around the config since from what I've read the engine scales itself automatically to provide 60fps at all times.
Cancel downloading the earlier fix driver after read this:
AMD Catalyst Creator Andrew D tweets “Don’t use the current RAGE performance driver – package includes very old OGL files, that’s why you’re seeing corruption etc,” and that ”New RAGE driver with proper OGL component will be posted later today.”

This. It's easy to scale for 60fps on consoles due to the lack of hardware variation, but impossible for PC due to the wide variety of graphics cards and screen resolutions.
I just watch the gameplay on several systems....and the graphics look exactly like Borderlands...
I thought I was trolled the first time i watch Rage gameplay just now....i thought they troll me with Borderlands gameplay....but it really is Rage...lol

i still updating.... damn slow... anyway, i already gathering up fixes and tweaks, and already implementing it. So later after my game session tonight will post up a rough review before i sleep. but seriously, id tech 5 engine seem to be very... promising actually. is just their artist and so on might not be fully utilizing the engine to the full.
I've played at starting the first mission only.So far no popping textures yet. I'm using the Nvidia beta driver that recommended by some guy in bethsoft forum. Will give report more later by midnight, since i got raid at the moment.

actually, the game seems to struggle on slow-performing hard disks. as i straddle along the Wastelands on any vehicle,i can see the HDD light on the casing blinking furiously. the only other time i watched this thing happen is when i tried to play some 1080p that i just rendered from Adobe After Effects, which tend to have 5-6MB/sec read bitrate.
well, not that i have those slow-performing HDD,but probably those with SSD can get better performance playing this game.

^ if i run the game in 1280 x 1024 probably no such problem?
well,u may try..i haven't tried playing the game at lower resolution i.e. 1280*720 but the game WILL be capped at 60fps at any resolution,so if the resolution u pick won't be too buggt,i suggest u stick with it.
i'd go for 1920*1080 bcos i like to take screenies while playing
super smooth at 1920x1080 4xAA. Texture pop-ins very minimal now after using this tweak. I am using the newer Ati Rage drivers fix, but only extracting the necessary OGL files, expanding them and putting them in the Rage folder though.
After put the fix driver, everything run perfectly. So far the gameplay ok..only the mission quite boring (hope it's only the first two mission). The mission like Far Cry 2. From A go to B, then go back to A, after that from A go to C, then go back to A..very-very boring mission...
just got the game, not able to install it YET, care to tell me why 3 discs?!?? during installation, did u use all 3 discs?
Yes..Must install using all 3 discs..(about 21GB) Then download update from STEAM (about 63MB) Then download 143MB for driver fix (if u using AMD card).. Then...u can play it smoothly..

yes,all 3 discs will be used. since not all ppl can afford blu-ray drives, they got no choice but to distribute the game using 3 dual-layer dvd (each at 8.5gb) btw, word of advise to those who buy retail: if u see the package got include the Sewers DLC, key-in that as well BEFORE u play the game or u may spend extra time downloading more stuffs...

How big the Sewer DLC file? My DVD came with Anarchy Edition serial key. What is it?
Anyone who purchase Rage PC version from pbseller can request the Anarchy Edition cd key upgrade from him. I asked him whether the copy we purchase from him is anarchy or not, so he told me that he forgot to include the cd key for Anarchy upgrade. Just pm him for the cd key. Thanks.

ok.tested on my rig. didn't noticed any significant changes, particularly indoor texture. outdoor texture, there might be slight improvement.but i didn't go for 8xAA.had to null the AA setting, cause i noticed some lag when dealing with characters.
i'll lay the game to rest a bit, after more tweaking environment has been discovered. time to Portal for now...

thanks for the info. I was about to verify if my copy was Anarchy Ed.
my card is 512mb, 9800gtx+ only, with all the tweaks and so on, is 60fps on 1440x900, but... texture poping issue is quite like the youtube. so i think i will stop 1st, see if there's any updates or fixes.
updates: if you have texture poping up and texture streaming problem. then the rageconfig.cfg doesnt fix it for u, u might want to NOT use the fix.
I actually just use the cache folder tweak, and then based on the nvidia tweak guide, the some maxPPF command, it works for me, texture pop up still there but is minimal if i doesnt move left to right so fast. and is steady 60fps, damn i love the 60fps.
try it out, the 4096 value for the fix actually make the game less pop up but the graphics is worst, so dont use the fix and let the RAGE auto-balancer works, and it will be better.
So far the game feels good for me, occasionally the texture pop up thingy is there but not affecting my gameplay much. 1 more thing bout this particular quest involving signalling up the flare. I've done all except returning back to the quest giver for the reward.Instead i went straight to the next part to Wellspring and after i did some of the new quest there, the mission failed when im arrived near Hagar's place to turn in back. Dunno why it failed though, weird.

because the place where you got the quest was closed down, so you cant complete the quest?
i do think he also gives a blueprints for the lockgrinder/or other things, correct me if i am wrong though
IIRC, the pattern for the lockgrinder u got it early when u first came to that place. I've already completed the other quests, but i forgot to turn in that last one, hehe.

well, the money is not big deal though, you can earn them quite easily..the only thing that is hurt is your completion % (achievement)

Close shave there bro.
On related news, my 4870x2 may have finally crapped itself after almost 3 years. No signal to the monitor anymore. Damn.
the graphic looks good from afar, but when get close view it looks like sh|t with a very low details.
yeah the texture sucks man.

Dunno why it failed though, weird.
i not sure whether if i had encounter any texture pop up while playing it, so far everything is good , only the textures when close up.
Last night blanked half way while using the PC. Was too late so "aiyah, tomorrow on sure ok edi". Today morning, turned it on, a few seconds into boot -> monitor lost signal. I'll mess around with it a bit later tonight though i'll need a spare card to confirm it's really the card (95% sure it is).
Nvmlah, i'll clear the backlog on my PS3 in the meantime.
The texture popping thingy i noticed when i moved the cursor from left to right or right to left, nampak macam something popping up, But no slow down or anything lah other than that issue. The game runs perfectly smooth on my machine.

The floor textures in the screenshot with the RC buggy is rather poor for a company of ID's stature. And is it just me or this game has no bump mapping whatsoever?
any ATi user encounter "Rage has stopped working or blackscreen after loading"?? when trying to enter new area@door? currently using 11.9+rage fix driver.
go do some tweak, and force the engine to use the 16k texture and u see la. now the engine potential is there, just need to tweak to push it to the max, while waiting for proper driver and patch.
just finally gotten a decent playable rate of texture oping and is awesome, i no regret buying it. the 1st shot of the shotgun made me fall in love again with id's game.
and i so love the minor minor easter egg all around. The bobble head on the buggy is soooo cute~~!! i want 1.
The shooting also is nice, the omp and impact is still there, satisfying, but maybe is cause i playing on normal. i just love those muties, running to me, i headbutt them and head shot them, nice... they charge to me, i side step melee then hs. nice....
Just hope they faster release patches and fixes, and drivers to solve those issue. definitely 1 of the most beautiful game so far.
After finish first round, are u going to replay it again? As for myself, I don't think so...the mission quite repetitive..like Far Cry 2... Sooooooooooo....boring... Really wasted my RM....
Legendary developer John Carmack, founder of id Software and the father of the first person shooter with classics like DOOM, has forsaken the PC platform as the "leading platform for games," which creates a curious subtext following the disastrous launch of the PC version of Rage.
The reasons are chiefly economical: while PCs may have 10 times the power of consoles, too much energy are expended trying to use the PC's vast resources, resulting in "an inferior product" trying to expend “a tenth of the resources on a platform that’s 10 times as powerful.” In other words, gameplay takes a backseat to technology. Not only does lead developing on a PC make a less interesting game, but the console versions are even weaker thanks to the limiting of gameplay for tech unavailable on the platforms.
One thing that bears out what Carmack is saying is that the biggest selling games on PC are games that require very little resources, like casual games, social networking games, and MMOs, which seldom require cutting edge machines
In CCC, just force vsync to always on. Edit: with the new v11.10 drivers you might not have to do this, as the release notes state "Automatic vsync" for Rage.
In the folder : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rage\base\ create a file rageconfig.cfg (save it as "rageconfig.cfg" in notepad, with the quotes otherwise it will be saved as a txt file). In the file:

playing the game....and feel like just another disappointed game of the year with big title...no physis...and graphic just look too fake....cloud at the sky wont move at all.....
And it looks like Doom3 was and will be my last id game.
Thanks for everything John. It has been a great ride.
He should have just stuck to his aerospace endeavour instead of coming out with hurtful statement like "developing for consoles and forsaking the PC because its not economical" Nooooooo

This game can shake hands with Dragon Age 2. Luckily I cancelled my pre-order.

I just ordered my RAGE CD-key...the jack sparrow edition taking forever to download even on my Canadian broadband.
Its not exactly a legal CD key, but it was cheap. And I doubt Steam would do something like taking away games from Steam lists, that's just a myth as I've never found anyone going through that situation before.
Heck, I still play Quake 3. Its still one of the most challenging and competitive shooters around. You can't laugh at it being an old game, but try to land perfect shots to see if you're really a gamer who's used to Shooters.
I've been quite a fan of id Software, I grew up with Wolfenstein 3D...just too bad. Hopefully in time to come a new and better id game will turn up, graphics might be standard but the gameplay better be good.

agree...after dragon age 2 => crysis 2 => dead island => and now rage all ''consolized''......hopefully that battlefield 3 in 2 more week wont be the same...

Try the second fix driver this morning and cause me black screen for other games... Installing back the first fix driver... I think I'll wait for official 11.10 driver, and not the preview one...
Btw, which one is buggier? Rage or Dead Island? Cos I haven't got Dead Island. Somehow, thank god, didn't get any crashes yet. no texture pop up as well. I just met the Bash TV guy at the moment.

Har no man i was abt to thank u for all the steps now my game is soooooo smooth and nice!! Btw can i patch the value to higher ? Lets say 9000 or 10000?
When asked why the studio opted to design the game for consoles rather than the PC, Carmack provided with a response he knows will make PC gamers unhappy.
“We do not see the PC as the leading platform for games,” said John Carmack, as he explained the company’s reasons for focusing Rage’s development on consoles.
"That statement will enrage some people, but it is hard to characterize it otherwise; both console versions will have larger audiences than the PC version. A high end PC is nearly 10 times as powerful as a console, and we could unquestionably provide a better experience if we chose that as our design point and we were able to expend the same amount of resources on it. Nowadays most of the quality of a game comes from the development effort put into it, not the technology it runs on. A game built with a tenth the resources on a platform 10 times as powerful would be an inferior product in almost all cases. Minago is offline

16384 is for 2GB+ VRAM cards. You can try though it didn't work for me (textures = blue colour).
Head over to PC Gamer to hear it from Carmack first hand, but what follows below will come as no surprise to many of you that have experienced Rage on the PC.
First off Carmack tells us that he should not be the one interviewed, because obviously he is not a PR whore that candy coats every turd and sends it off like it is a special treat.
"When I look back as probably one of the larger mistakes I made on Rage, and I know I am probably not the best person to be giving these end-of-project interviews, because I always focus on what I did, what I should have done differently, the opportunities I missed, all of that."
Then Carmack drops the bomb that many of us [H]'ers know in our heart and soul. We got a shitty Console ported game for $60. Seems as though id well knew this before it sold it to us. frown
"When we started on the game six years ago on there, I looked at the consoles and said, "These are as good as the PCs that we're on here," and our development strategy was set up such that we basically developed live on all the platforms there. And now when we’re looking at PCs that have ten times the horsepower of the consoles, I’m making a large change in my direction, just saying, "We should be focusing on building things efficiently on the PC and deploying on the consoles." And we didn’t make that as crisp of a distinction as we should have."
Really can't blame him... coming from my own programmer POV.
Developing for the PC (with millions of different permutations of hardware, drivers, OS, RAM, processes, monitors, clock rate) is a sht-filled nightmare compared with a single consistent spec for consoles, and they get PC sales that are like a small fraction of Xbox360 and PS3, for all the trouble. For starters, ATI and nVidia already have completely different approaches to rendering and drivers.
Btw, which one is buggier? Rage or Dead Island? Cos I haven't got Dead Island. Somehow, thank god, didn't get any crashes yet. no texture pop up as well. I just met the Bash TV guy at the moment.
I just finished the game. for me I give the game personally a 7/10. . but I recommend those who are planning to get the game to think twice. There is no love for PC gamers in this game. None!
Besides the texture popping problems, the game is surprisingly short, ideas are not original (if you played borderlands you will know) and many of the gameplay features are not properly explored. The only good things for me is the enemies movement in combat. Its unpredictable and far better than borderlands. Even the enemies are very hard to die making it quite realistic. Game opening scene is one of a kind. And the in game ladies are stimulating.
Put aside the texture problems, the graphics are not bad. In fact its good. Just wait for patch/fix. Hopefully it looks better.
yea downloading now ! damn they are quick with patch lolZ! i am still racing in wellspring, damn fun! much better then need for speed cause i can shoot rockets!!!!!

fffuuu u wrong la bro..4890 = gtx 470 (or 560 ti maybe) not gts 450 (450 = 5750 only)
lol. incorrect. ati radeon hd 4890 is on par with GTX 550 Ti only. But never beat GTX 460 and above. However its true that ati radeon HD 4890 is better than GTS 450.
Where's the rad rod buggy @ anarchy edition goodie ? I just finished the wasted garage mission and then the blockade mission. The double barreled shotgun is available outright. But not the crimson armour and the buggy.
After installing new ATI preview driver (Thanks Currylaksa for the link) and Steam auto update, I cranked every settings to max and the frame rate remain at 60, and the texture popping and screen cracking are practically non existant, even though you will notice it once in a while.
is Skyrim engine (creation) better than RAGE engine?
Overall don't think there is direct comparison. id Tech 5 is the longtime brainchild of John Carmack that have been largely and numerously improved to scale for modern shooters throughout its lifetime.
Creation interesting enough is a totally new engine created ground up by Bethesda, I douby anyone unless the creators of this engine themselves can give you any definitive answers as Skyrim haven't even been released. However the dynamic elements for its massive open-world setting seems quite impressive so far even if its going to be console based.

i cant use large setting for texture cache when i spin around too fast, there's considerable lag..like,the game needed to load all sorts of things b4 it can actually show the angle..oh my..
now's probably the time to reduce my resolution to lower settings.idk, now pretty occupied with other stuffs, havent got the time to tinker around too much at the settings..
btw, anyone ever tried keying in IDKFA or IDDQD? *all weapon & godmode cheat in Doom*

as start, u will get the double barrel shotgun right away, as for HotRod buggy, you will unlock it at Wellspring, same goes with Crimson Elite(CE) armor (if you choose CE armor to replace ARK suit)
. But the armor is not right away fully upgraded shown in anarchy edition goodie(AE), you need to do more quest and upgrade it to max tier 5 to become like the one in AE goodie.
