Maybe take this opportunity to just cancel the whole thing altogether.
This kind of fiber reading will give problem down the road.
The installation already so many problem.
Just call the whole thing off and try 5G broadband instead.

Suprise suprise
Asked him for the credentials, he said he will be here at 4PM
Indeed he showed up, without the equipment
Said he can't give me the PLOAM credentials because if my service came online without verification from his side, he will get into trouble
Postponed again
Lost count to the failed installs already

So he came for what?
Just to try and tell you delay again?

Just call and cancel everything. Don't tell me you still feel Allo is worthy.

Checked my fibre reading, it's -24.xx. The line was broken before and repaired by splicing too.

I will give him one more chance
If tomorrow he cant wrap up the installation, I will escalate the whole thing to MCMC
Allo is truly record breaking in a bad way

Finally, the installer arrived at 10am
He said it was actually configuration error from their side but he will give me better gear regardless
He swapped my 2x Tplink EX220 to 2x Dlink DIR X3060Z (Custom Allo firmware), basically moved from AX1800 to AX3000
Still the same Nokia ONU (G-010G-T)

After he finished configuration, immediately I was able to get the full upload speed from both wired and wireless connection
Download speed is around 920~970Mbps max
The fiber reading was actually 20dbm ish according to the meter (Not the one in ONU)

So far so good, by default it is on Google DNS and I have IPv6
Swapped the given router to my UCG Ultra, on dual wan failover (Allo main Unifi backup)
At first I was having some issues with the upload speed, it was constantly below 150Mbps when tested through UCG
However, when I switched from normal WAN to the 2.5G WAN, I'm able to get the full subscribed speed

Installation fee RM100, from back of the house through the celling, through conduit and out from the wall socket
Finished sign off by giving him the OTA sent by Allo when he submitted his work order

This is ethernet or fiber cabling? I guess it's ethernet

How come dBm reading differ with tester and on ONT.

Fiber cabling
According my installer friend, he said using a dedicated meter is more accurate

Ok. If new cable, it should give good reading. Provided that old internal fiber cable already degraded. Just want to clarify smile.gif

Because my cable from Unifi box to my house broken before.

First time knowing that Allo also use Nokia ONU thought that they always use HUAWEI ones cause I like how compact and small it is. Now I have one spare Huawei ONU as backup.

Unifi have been around close to 20 years I assume most main internal fiber cable starts to degrade while Allo roughly 6-7 years old, fiber cable still being fresh.

They have 4 types of ONU
The small Huawei
Calix
Bigger Huawei (if you sub to VOIP)
Nokia

Nokia you can't access it through browser to fetch the OLT credentials, locked behind telnet
Touched anything, and it will auto reset...

My Unifi cable is 5 years old, still going strong
16 dB

Finally it's done. Their latency to LAX is actually very low.
Allo don't have any connection to IX in Singapore, which sucks.

Can you login to the ONU if you follow this guide?
https://hack-gpon.org/ont-nokia-g-010g-t/

Maybe test if they have evening congestion.

I assume your HG8240H has Blue UPC fibre port. Allo use Green APC fibre, which is at an angle. So there will be a loss if plugged into UPC port, and might even damage the connector.

Everything looks very good actually.
The myix trace isn't bad.

In networking gear, data plane actually run in ASIC. Control plane and management plane run on CPU. Service plane can be a bit of both.

Traceroute use TTL field to have router in each hop expires the packet and discard it.

Upon discard, depending on Control Plane Protection policy, can ignore it, or punt the packet to Control Plane to generate TTL Exceeded packet, which your computer receive and display as hop.
There's a lot of other policy you can configure as well, like throttling, etc

So as long as your hop after that have lower latency, you are all good.

For ping, it depends. Certain vendor can have ASIC that replies to icmp-echo, and by definition, bfd-hello. So if you know these kind of router is in path, then ping packet is accurate.

Otherwise it will be punt to control plane too.

EDIT:
Many route server are just BIRD or FRRrouting so packet forwarding won't actually traverse these nodes. They just do BGP and nothing else.

If Allo can keep this going, I will definitely terminate Unifi after contract with them has finished
Well, another 12 months to go
Last night my Discord's voice channel ping to SG was only 10ms, 1/4 of Unifi's
