maybe I am asking stupid question but hope you all could help me

I am thinking of buying e21xx to overclock. I am not demanding high overlock.

I think based on stock cooling and normal vcore, I saw before it can go up to around 2.67ghz (or 3ghz if i am wrong) but I will be happy if can overclock to 2.6ghz around there.

My question is can I use any motherboard that support core 2 duo to overclock to those GHzs? I am very confuse with all those 945s....965s....G31....P31....P35... rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

I have limited money so I hope to spend as little money on motherboard. Hope you all can advise me what is best to get for price/performance ratio.

Also I have a Tagan TG380-UO1 380W power supply...can I use that to overclock?

And also the 3rd question is ...memory...need any special memory to overclock? (as mentioned don't need to overclock very high because limited money)

that is all for now. Hope someone could answer my questions? icon_question.gif

seems like most e2140 getting 3.0ghz @ default vcore... mine need 1.45+

Is your proc stepping M0? I heard that some newer M0 batches are bad clockers... sweat.gif

Get either E2140 or E2160, E2160 is better though. P35 chipset is basically quite good for overclocking, Abit IP35-E and Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L are a few P35 boards below RM350... Value RAMs are already good enough, my DDR2-667 Kingston Value RAMs can hit 900MHz easily happy.gif

Thanks for replying notworthy.gif

"Also I have a Tagan TG380-UO1 380W power supply...can I use that to overclock?" <-- hehe miss out on that one tongue.gif

After doing some search on internet, I thinking of getting those G31 bcoz they have built-in graphic ...are those G31 as capable as P35( in terms of overclocking)?

Those G31 have INTEL GMA 3100 on-board graphic ..are those capable playing 3d games? (mostly mmorpgs like perfect world ..world of warcraft...those kind ..or maybe normal 3d games tongue.gif also )

I know abit off topic ...but hope could get a answer notworthy.gif

Boards with integrated graphics don't OC good at all, due to the well... Integrated graphics as it gets OCed at the same thing laugh.gif

Tagan is a very reputable brand, but I'm not so sure about the "Watt" required so I left that one out for the pros to answer icon_rolleyes.gif

I see from the gigabyte website...both GA-P35-DS3L(no onboard graphic) and GA-G31M-S2L(with onboard graphic) can support up to 1333Mhz FSB. So can they both overclock up to the same GHZ?

I thinking of getting GA-G31M-S2L because it's cheaper and I do not want to get a graphic card right now but I worry it cannot overclock as high as the other.

Any people have experience on this boards especially GA-G31M-S2L or other motherboard brand using G31 ...can advise on this? notworthy.gif

to all e2xxx series user, i just tried core temp 0.96, it report higher temp than all the other version of core temp, worried of mine now as it raised frm 55c load to 70c load.. higher temp reported by core temp 0.96 while intel TAT and Core temp 0.95 are around 50c+

I think it's safe to trust Intel's app, since it's their proc. But why worry? 70'C is still below max Tjunction tongue.gif Mine goes up to 60'C+ during OCCT and ORTHOS test.

Well... if they can support up to 1333MHz, basically means you'll be safe if you only plan to bring your processor up to 1333MHz FSB, but if you want more, you might want to look for other options.

I had great success with my AsRock Conroe1333-D667, also listed as stable to 1333MHz but i brought it up to 1400MHz using the internal graphics wink.gif

Hi there guys,

I am not sure this is a problem or not but it feels kinda weird to me. As said, i OCed my E2140 to 2.4Ghz (300 * 8) the other day and all went well..

After a while, i launched the Asus AI Suite and CPU-Z and to my surprise, its only showing my E2140 to be running on 1.8Ghz (300 * 6). The multiplier itself went down from 8 to 6. However, when i try to run some program and installer, again, both CPU-Z and Asus AI Suite automatically change the value from 1.8Ghz to 2.4Ghz.

I am wondering, is it normal for the multiplier to change automatically?

EIST (or something like that) was enabled, u gotta disable those stuff in bios bro. there are 3/4 options needed to be disabled whenever oc is done. it's sorta C&Q to amd... smile.gif

im going to get a 2140 next month, i plan to get Gigabyte p31-s3L@RM275 + OCZ DDR2 800MHz gold@RM80. my questions are...

can Gigabyte p31-s3L+2140 get 3GHz?

is it necessary to get a DDR2 800MHz for this intel platform? i saw this OCZ gold edition should sounds like a good deal at RM80, if this intel platform doesnt benefit much from faster RAM, then i just go for the cheapest DDR2 667MHz RAM.

*btw, whats the difference between a 800MHz and 667MHz ddr2? other than its speed? like i know, 800MHz got higher latency than 667MHz, so if i get a 667MHz RAM, i can increase its latency and gain speed?

hi all overclocker of E2XXX series,

i'm running this E2160 (M0 stepping) on GA-P35-DS3P with pc-5300 1GBX2 kingston value ram wth CM extreame 550w PSU. Temp idle at 33c and full load at 55~58c. Current clock i can achieve in running othos stable is 337X9 or 380X8, i tried 400X8 it juz cant boot windows. vcore is at 1.45 on mobo auto adjust voltage, pcie is being fix at 100mhz. Ram latency is auto adjust by mobo.

I'm wandering if u guys can give me some advice weather my cpu is at it's limit or my ram is pulling me back. if i go higher thn the two setting, i cant seems able to boot properly or fail running othos.

Thx in advance and have a nice day.

alan836, try ram divider 2.00 smile.gif
try set the vcore manually instead of auto adjust......
RAM latency, try manual. Try 18-6-6-5, go for relax timing and hopefully ram not holding you back. smile.gif

as i know there is a 400MHz FSB wall for all Pentium E series. how about u try 380X9? by the way, hows high can your Kingston RAM overclock? there is this question bugging me whether to get a 800 or 667 MHz RAM.

sparrowed, you'll be fine with that setup. You can get DDR2-667, it'll still work. In terms of overclocking, what matters is the chips on the RAM, not the PR rating or brand.

I know it works, the question that still bugging me is; to get a DDR2 667 or DDR2 800 which only different at RM10. and im not going to go high on RAM speed, i just want to make sure i able to do 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio @ 3GHz or more.

8x375 = 3Ghz so all you need is a RAM which is capable of doing 375Mhz. As I've mentioned, you don't go by the rating but the chipset. To make it easier, just buy a Kingston Value RAM DDR2-667 with Hynix chipset. That would assure you to get 1:1 @ 3Ghz.

E21 series oc is very depend on luck.My one only can go 360x9 even i use Crucial ram and Abit IP35 Pro motherboard.E21 series is tough to break 400,over 400 one is good chip.KVR can do the job one.

i'm already using a divider 2.0, i'm able to boot window in 395X8, but it have problem running othos, 380X8 is stable thn i guess my proc is hitting the limit. quite dissapointed wth my proc coz i see someone in this forum can hit so high result with M0 stepping(same as mine)...guess i'm running out of luck wth this proc.
