QUOTE(quadcube @ Nov 13 2019, 10:51 PM) Yeah. Really cheaper. Last year same staring price only has 256gb storage while now has 512gb. The 256gb extra storage will cost sgd250 to 300 and above to get if upgrade normally. But a Super deal breAker is the weight. It goes back to 2015 15-inch that kind of weight. WTF. And no wifi 6. Even new iPhones have it. Speakers and mic look cool. ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by westlife: Nov 13 2019, 11:01 PM |

I am glad they finally admitted thin is not the answer but all the problems for overheat. Love to see it's not longer thin obsessed piece of hair dryer tho the useless AF touch bar still there. |

That's the benefit of a desktop with snap in memory stick. wow, 128GB ram I use it for Image, Video processing plus coding. The imac 27-inch 5k also drives a dual 4k 27inches setup. An Imac drives 3 high res monitors with ease, i can't say about any MBPs, even this new one's fan would blow OFF like JET. |

Maybe wifi 6 is excluded due to intel (cpu with integrated wifi)? if you are really carrying your macbook pro here and there, it is a different case. although i pointed the wifi 6 on the new macbook pro. to be frank, for real life usage, the 802.11ac is still pretty sufficient. dun forget also to support wifi 6, ur wifi router etc needs to support it also. the price is promising, same price as 256gb 2018 macbook pro but with so much more improvements.
now it makes the 13-inch macbook pro not worthy. if you consider a same storage size (512gb) + 4 thunderbolt 3 ports + 16gb model of 13-inch macbook pro, it is already almost the same price as base model of 2019 16-inch macbook pro not to mention the processor is not even on par, screen size, speakers, keyboard etc. |

External HDD for instance, you can't even play video. I open probably 30-50 browsers tabs when i code, my MBP couldn't handle it but the 128GB iMac just chilling... |

Now I feel like selling my 2016 mbp for this.
Now customers can pay less for 512gb, better audio, better graphics, KEYBOARD and longer batt life. Wonder how much a used 2016 15MBP worth now with 512gb storage config |

I've been using a 13-inch retina MBP since 2013 and never upgraded because I didn't like the touchbar and butterfly keys on every MBP for the past 4 years
Finally this 16inch MBP seems like a worthy upgrade |

CPU probably best for transcoding then again it will hits bottomneck on large video images files processing as well. browser tabs or loading big files need ram yes but likely not due to 128gb ram. what is the number of tabs or the size of big file to load at once in order to fully utilise 128gb ram? u will likely to hit the bottleneck by other factors such as processor etc. And application itself also makes a difference, chrome or photoshop are known to be hunger for ram but it is due to the application too. Similar application such as safari or Final Cut Pro x will utilise ram in a different ways too. For most use cases for most people, I dun think they can fully utilise the 128gb ram due to all the factors that can bottleneck it. Even it can, it is likely nor for constant workload for the use cases. It is likely for niche group of people who know exactly what they are doing. In terms of price and over package for MacBook Pro 2019 16-inch, it is very attractive. Dun think anyone should buy the 13-inch spec out models.

QUOTE(westlife @ Nov 17 2019, 12:55 PM) I mentioned ‘or 14-inch’ also. I will wait for the scissor keyboard to be implemented back on the upcoming 14” MBP & MBA next year.Dun think it will be worth it for 14-inch unless there is great reduction in price if it is launched later. Most probably apple will launch on March 2020 event. |

MBA is a redundant line-up. they should kill it and get 12-inch back. then 12-inch, 14-inch, 16-inch will make up the complete line-ups.Most probably apple will launch on March 2020 event. |

Guys, new member here. I'm thinking of getting the new 16-inch to replace my 2013 13.3-inch MBP.
Normal use, some video and photo editing. Pushing almost to the max of my 512GB SSD and 16GB ram once in a while. Sometimes needing a restart. Do you guys think the 16GB ram will be enough with the better CPU etc or should I pay the enormous amount for the 32GB? Thanks! |

QUOTE(westlife @ Nov 19 2019, 07:32 AM) That was what I was thinking. I maxed out my 2013 MBP to 16gb back then. Maybe thats why I can still use it now. But, the extra cost is quite a lot. Some people say that we should just go for 64gb since the cost per gb from 32 to 64 is less. |

It is better to overkill after all instead of facing underpowered problem later. |

If one does not even know whether to go for 64GB, likely that you do not need it. They are likely for very niche group of people who really know what they want.Save the $$$ for other things instead. |

I went for the full 16gb for my 2013 MBP and I was only feeling that its used to its full potential the last 2-3 years. When I started seeing spinning wheels off and on while working on videos and my RAW photos. I went for the 16gb during that time because I was having hanging issues with my 2008 MBP before that when dealing with RAW files. I dont make it a habit to look at the usage levels etc while Im working, so cant answer if you have technical questions about that.Save the $$$ for other things instead. |

"Apple Launches Extended Holiday Return Policy, Return Deadline Set for January 8, 2020" Not sure if you guys have the offer above in Malaysia but here in the US, I can buy a unit to try out and return it a month later if I am not happy with the product. Decided to settle on the 8-core base unit without upgrades. And test it out "kaw-kaw" for a month. Cheers! |

I'm thinking of getting the new 16-inch to replace my 2013 13.3-inch MBP. watch through this video, i think its simplify enough of getting what you need according to what you want to do. honestly, 64gb is very overkill unless you run VM alot or you already know, you need it. Normal use, some video and photo editing. Pushing almost to the max of my 512GB SSD and 16GB ram once in a while. Sometimes needing a restart. Do you guys think the 16GB ram will be enough with the better CPU etc or should I pay the enormous amount for the 32GB? Thanks! just ordered a customize 32gb with 5500 8gb on the base 2.3ghz 8-core over the phone. find it funny you cant do a customize back-order directly at the Apple store, only sell you what they have on hand instead This post has been edited by sai86: Nov 23 2019, 07:17 PM |

Tested the 8-core base model. Runs damm smooth with even big raw files. And video editing is a breeze. I dont do VM so unsure how it does.

I'm thinking to buy it when im US on educaton pricing, seems cheaper than Msia's edu pricing. This post has been edited by ClericKilla: Nov 28 2019, 12:53 PM |

Just checked the website for Black Friday. Apple is offering USD200 credit for the 13inch. Nothing for the 16 inch. Looks like have to stick with the education discount. BH has a 200 discount on the 16 inch though.

Finally see in real.
1) at first glance, the bezel does not significantly looks smaller to be frank. Screen size does not look significantly bigger than the previous 15-inch. 2) speaker is awesome, a lot more base than before. 3) keyboard is surprisingly good. It is even better than the one on 2015 MacBook Pro. ![]() ![]() |

QUOTE(westlife @ Nov 30 2019, 04:20 PM) Not really. Feeling is different. It is much like something in between 2015 and 2018 MacBook Pro. Confirmed it is not the exactly the same feel as 2012 which is the same as 2015. Oooh, I haven't experienced any Apple laptop than my 2012. Visually it looks the same as my 2012 than looking flat so pretty excited to try. Hope its as durable as the 2012 ones.. |

Got to see it in person today in Japan. The screen really does not gives you the wow effect if you coming from previous gen. Screen is not edge to edge, visually, is not much significant than last. To me, is the return of physical esc keyboard, finally! MBP is not dumb AF anymore. Someone did wake up and not being STUPID as human being putting esc key in touch bar.

I think the best thing about regular iMac 27 is the Rams, just pop open cover and put in the rams yourself. Take less than a minute. Other than that, you can not upgrade anything else, not the ssd or video card. if you don't need to travel or portability, iMac is the way to go, you get way better hardware for the same price, plus the industrial best 5k monitor for the value. This post has been edited by zeroendless: Dec 2 2019, 01:51 PM |

QUOTE(clocksmolder @ Nov 28 2019, 12:21 PM) actually now reading other views quite a bit of complaints regarding Office on Mac. Its mostly Microsoft trying hard to get it to sync properly. They have done great strides but MS Office isn't really optimised to fully utilise the performance of the Mac. There has been cases where large excel files in the office runs faster with a slower and lower specced PC compared to a Macbook Pro.Mac or Windows problem I wonder. |

Had the same thoughts like you. I upgraded from a late 2013 13 inch. With a 16gb RAM. The screen size is HUGE but weight feels about the same. I think if you are going to upgrade any part of the SSD or RAM on the 13 inch, might as well go with the 16 inch unless you are having limitations with the size. Now debating on the 13inch and 16inch both at edu pricing |

Unwrap on the spot, open the device make sure the serial number is valid with Apple. The only thing is you need to replace the adapter as those are US units. Warranty wise no issue can walk in an apple store. But as you said, if you want peace of mind then buy from Apple store is the best. |

![]() Unboxing completed. The hub you see is the usb-c hub with wireless charging. After testing 2 units (first the 16gb RAM and now 32gb RAM) vs my old 2013 13 inch. I am not a power user/geek. Just use the computer and do what I need to do. My early thoughts: 1. Final Cut- do not see any difference yet on simple editing and encoding 2. Keyboard- for me its "old". Does not feel like a new computer and does not feel like new technology. No apple "wow" factor. 3. Screen- wide and nice 4. Migrating from computer to computer is soooooooo tiring. More to come. |

When exporting you should be able to see memory pressure under activity monitor. Then from there can know if 16GB or 32GB is enough. For me, my memory utilisation is around 8GB - 10GB, so 16GB is good enough for my needs. |

QUOTE(Icehart @ Dec 16 2019, 11:19 PM) When exporting you should be able to see memory pressure under activity monitor. Then from there can know if 16GB or 32GB is enough. Thank you. Unfortunately, I am a noob at that. Have been using macs for the last 10 years and never found a reason to look at the memory pressure or activity monitor. My macs just work and if it hangs, I just restart it and all is well. Sometimes its slow, sometimes its fast, but does not make a big difference to me. My 2013 13inch with 16gb RAM seemed a bit slow and I had to wait up to 45 minutes to export a 5-10gb video. And opening RAW photos (about 20-25MB) took more than 1-2 seconds. With this new mac, much faster and immediate opening of raw photos. For me, my memory utilisation is around 8GB - 10GB, so 16GB is good enough for my needs. |

QUOTE(sai86 @ Dec 14 2019, 09:24 PM) newb MacOS question, is the separate partition thing as easy as explained in google/youtube? Partition is simple task in Mac. Used to do that separating data storage from OS on a single drive. so i can just separate/create a new partition from my only 1TB main ssd just like below? https://support.apple.com/en-sg/guide/disk-...dskutl14079/mac http://osxdaily.com/2011/04/26/partition-h...drive-mac-os-x/ |

Holidays season - It's the year most busiest season for Apple and carriers, most devices are shipping from China... kinda throw schedule off the norm i guess.

Damn... I bought mine then only watch this video.just ordered a customize 32gb with 5500 8gb on the base 2.3ghz 8-core over the phone. find it funny you cant do a customize back-order directly at the Apple store, only sell you what they have on hand instead Luckily, I got it cheaper than usual. ![]() |

I previously own a MacBook Pro 15 inch 2016 version. I used the laptop for 2 years+ and went through multiple repairs due to the faulty keyboard. At the end Apple gave me a full refund of the amount I paid this year and I waited for a refresh.
Saw them released this 16inch and immediately ordered one. What a big upgrade (for the same price I paid three years ago!) I got twice the amount of Ram, twice the core count (8 core) and twice the graphical power. I have not benchmarked this laptop because I had been using my iPad as my main computer (and stopped coding and editing photos for some time) but what I immediately noticed is how much better this keyboard felt compared to the old keyboard. The improvements in speakers are noticeable, but not "groundbreaking" compared to the previous 15 inch. This is definitely the best laptop speakers for now and anyone who came from a laptop other than the 2016 -2019 series MacBook will be pleasantly surprised with the audio quality. Sidecar is extremely fluid when paired with my iPad. I could draw with the Apple Pencil on Photoshop with pressure sensitivity when using sidecar! (No more reason for me to get an external monitor) I felt like this iteration is the laptop apple should have released in 2016. It's not groundbreaking or anything, but it felt more like a fix for their mistakes in the past. Also, I got apple care+ from elsewhere because it covers accidental damage too (would recommend getting that instead of the one in Malaysia) This is the specs of my thicc boi: ![]() |

Google Apple Employee discount and came upon this.
-------------------------------- As an employee you get 25% of discount on the FIRST unit of any product you buy, so you can buy one of each Apple product line (iPhone, iPad, MacBook…) after that you have a family and friends discount, which allows you to buy up to 10 units with 15% of discount. |

Just updating after a few weeks with my new 16 inch. All good for now. Battery life not that great. Speakers wonderful. Keyboard, similar to my old pre-touchbar 13 inch. No complaints other than extra weight and size when carrying it around.

I am still using the first ever retina MBP 15" from mid-2012. Battery is no longer reliable. Screen ghosting. Load LR and PS also a bit laggy.
Was thinking to change to iMac as I dont travel frequently anymore, then again the current iMac design is way way outdated, while the new MBP 16" has a lot more features than the iMac. Hand itchy wanna upgrade to MBP 16" now... This post has been edited by limchee: Jan 6 2020, 05:27 PM |

I just upgraded from 13 inch 2013. I have a 27 inch monitor with wireless keyboard and trackpad that can hook up to my MB at home. Used that setup since I sold off my iMac many years ago. I would say if you are the only one using the laptop/computer, that would be a good setup. But if you have wife, kids or anyone else that will use the iMac at home, probably better to have iMac as a base computer at home that can be connected to everything. Can use for streaming, home automation, CCTV, backing up files etc. How about a mac mini? Look at USB ports, inputs, outputs etc. I have the Dell which can also function as a USB hub. So, when I need everything on my desk, I just connect my laptop in clamshell mode, connect power and 1 USB. After that all my peripherals connected to my monitor will be working. Computer will backup automatically to the connected hard disc. Now with USB-C maybe even easier. Havent looked at options yet. Still getting used to my new 16 inch. |

To most, it is actually good enough to perform video or photo editing as a compared to iMac or Mac Pro. actually 16-inch display, cpu and graphics of it are superb. just the weight is too heavy. last time i used to have 2015 macbook pro 15-inch, but becos it is too heavy, so i switched to 2017 macbook pro 13-inch instead. |

QUOTE(penangkia247 @ Jan 10 2020, 03:57 AM) I agree with you. It is very heavy. After taking it for a trip recently, I actually thought of switching back to a 13inch. But too bad they have not updated it with new keyboard and specs. So, I guess will have to stick with this 16 inch for a few years. yeah. The display and the power of the machine is really fantastic that can have a much longer Usable lifespan than 13-inch for sure. just 2kg is really hard to carry around. Not to mention it has yet to include the weight for the adapter (which is also very heavy and bulky). Use it at home then it is quite ideal even to replace a desktop. As a contrast, I can carry around my 13-inch MacBook Pro for 2 weeks of Europe trip with ease but the bad thing is that it is not as powerful. And if u are buying the higher end model with added ram etc it is as good as the price of the base model 16-inch which is much more worth it for what you get except portability. I was driving around and placed laptop bag on leg area of front passenger. Because its 16 inch, very scared that it will bend or something if put too much pressure on it. Car was fully packed no other place to put the laptop bag. Very much prefer the 13 inch if it can have the same specs. Dont mind the small screen actually. Have been trying out sidecar with my ipad and it works very well.As a contrast, I can carry around my 13-inch MacBook Pro for 2 weeks of Europe trip with ease but the bad thing is that it is not as powerful. Yes, you should get the ipad. I use it to stream videos from my computer and pass it to my small kid to watch. The touch screen wont work and even if you press the button, will still need the ipad password. Kids wont be able to mess up my ipad functions. Something like guided access but you get to control contents from the computer.yeah. i am looking to buy an ipad pro 11-inch if the new one is coming to compliment it too. |

There is Apple Care and Apple Care+ which is different and only available in certain countries. If you buy Apple Care+ means only can buy in that country store and use the country credit card. |

QUOTE(afiqsabri @ Jan 19 2020, 03:43 AM) I managed to buy a Malaysian Apple Care with a foreign bought Macbook. So, the other way around should be possible also. However, I'm not sure about what happens when you want to get service. If you are in Malaysia but you have Apple Care+, you may not get 100% of what you paid for. |

QUOTE(invisiblelim @ Jan 22 2020, 01:56 PM) Nope. Malaysia only sells Apple Care not "plus". The only thing with "plus" is you get coverage for accidental damage to screen etc. But only limited to 2 times. And for each time, you have to pay a small fee. For example if break your screen, they will replace it for you for RM400 if you have Apple Care+ vs almost RM2k (not sure the price) if you ask apple to change it for you. I would buy Apple Care+ for phone. But MB maybe less change of drop right? |

Kinda a moot point since it's not available...I just bought AppleCare for my 16" since I spec-ed the higher end 32Gb one and it looks like I'll be keeping this machine for the full 3 years. It's been a long time since I've like a MBP this much. This one is a joy to use. |

If you bring it in for repair in Malaysia, they will usually honour it. I did that for my Apple watch and they changed it for me for free although my screen was broken accidentally. And in fact didnt even charge me the replacement cost which I would have needed to pay in HK. Not sure if it was a one off event but the mac center initially told me I had to pay for the repair but then called me back and told me Apple asked them to waive the charges.I just bought AppleCare for my 16" since I spec-ed the higher end 32Gb one and it looks like I'll be keeping this machine for the full 3 years. After discussion with you guys I decided just to buy the Apple Care+ now instead of waiting till the end of the year. Noticed that the price of Apple Care+ is even cheaper as compared to Apple Care in Malaysia. And for Apple Care+ only can buy within 60 days of purchase.

Not sure if those debit cards that can buy in 7-11 and top up works or not. |

Guys, my 16 inch seems to be heating up a lot while using on my lap. And when used with a lot of eternal stuff the fan is spinning furiously. Anyone having the same problem? Maybe about time to get holder for it.

I've got an iMac at work and another at home so I don't really connect the MBP to monitors and drives (most of my documents are on iCloud) so I guess my usage pattern is different.
About the only thing that makes the fan engage is when I'm running Windows 10 at work via Parallels and I run the work related media players. Even then, it doesn't get overly warm and the fans are really very quiet. I'm impressed at the smoothness of video though. Especially since this is running Windows emulation. (to answer the inevitable question - no, a Mac version of the windows software I need to run does not exist) |

Just saw this post. Lucky you! I suggest you send it in for repair when you are travelling to one of the countries which support Apple Care+. Singapore or HK maybe. When I sent mine to Malaysian agent, they had to check with Apple and the process is a bit long. Firstly even told me that it was not covered. |

That’s based on the screen and housing damage deductible for Care+ And of course bro, let’s hope we don’t ever have to face a cracked screen. |

QUOTE(Anonymous34 @ Feb 19 2020, 09:27 AM) Another deductible of 500 (hopefully with fingers crossed). That’s based on the screen and housing damage deductible for Care+ will the house damage to be considered as other damage that cost extra on top of the display? And of course bro, let’s hope we don’t ever have to face a cracked screen. |

Hi guys.
Finally joining the club. 😁 16" i9 1TB reporting in. 🙏🏼 ![]() My initial impressions:- Coming from using a MacBook Pro 15" 2019, the key differences that I find most welcoming are: - the keyboard! finally keys with great travel distance. though sometimes I really miss the snappy stability of the butterfly switches from the MBP 15" - superb speakers with surprisingly good bass response now. this was very impressive. - escape key .... ooh, I have missed you so much! - screen size got a 1" bump. quite noticeable especially when I use a lot of apps in one view. - battery life is pretty good too. Now, just read that we should do some CPU clock tweaks to the Turbo Boost to minimise overheating and improve battery life drastically. Gonna do this ASAP! ✌🏼 |

QUOTE(Anonymous34 @ Feb 16 2020, 02:32 PM) But iPhone is unbreakable one. Laptops are really easy to drop and crack No way laptop are easy to drop laMy experience for the past few flagships (X and XS Max) is very easy to be water damaged. My X got water damage after 3 months of usage and XS Max got glitched out after 2 months. I mobile my laptop since 2012 with bare until today still works like charm, no dent or scratch. It happens, but not so easy i guess well most of the time it just sits at the table right? |

QUOTE(SolId SnaKe @ Feb 25 2020, 12:43 AM) Use 3rd party apps. There are guides available on Youtube.I have not personally tested them. Will update results once I have the time to test. QUOTE(MacDaNife @ Feb 26 2020, 07:56 AM) The cardboard box that Apple shipped the machine from factory to you. Mind sharing which ones you bought from Waterfield Designs? But in seriousness, check out Waterfield Designs. Amazing quality but expensive. I've bought two. Am considering a third... Did you order them straight from their website and have them delivered to Malaysia? Am keen on trying them out too. Alternatively, I am still considering the RM749 Apple Leather Sleeve but am unsure of how good it is. |

No regrets though. Both are VERY good quality bags and have different use case scenarios. Now I've got my eye on the Air Porter Carry on.... |

One question, is it safe to buy the "US set" macbookpro 16 inch in malaysia with way cheaper price than the official price ? looking for one but quite skeptical as the price different is 2k++ |

However, you will be covered by the Apple Warranty. Previously I bought a 15 inch MacBook Pro that was repaired few times for the keyboard issues in one year and under the consumer law, I got a full refund on my previous purchase and use the fund to purchase the new 16 inch. So... depends on you I guess. |

I am not worried about any workmanship defects of the laptop as it can be claimed her with no issue. Source: been dealing with US Apple products for a few years now. Bargain for money |

This particular computer has a very niche market so I'd imagine not many retailers would have much inventory - a one-to-one exchange hardly seems a practical expectation. I would hesitate to infer that this is a problematic machine though. Mine has been problem free since purchase. What this does make very clear is there is little advantage to buying from a brick-and-mortar shop as if you have any problems (again, this is quite rare) they would still direct you to an online resolution of the problem from Apple. QUOTE(MacDaNife @ Mar 5 2020, 07:41 AM) The usual Malaysian feeling of entitlement "I bought something expensive so therefore I am deserving of special treatment" needs to end. It’s not the entitlement of special treatment because the laptop is not expensive for the value it gives (Windows workstation laptops cost upwards of 16k) but if it was to happen to you on day 1, you would probably want to have a 1 to 1 exchange to. It’s just a base model 16”, they should have it in stock any day. And mind you, they offer 14 days exchange period in many stores overseas. Regardless if it broke or you simply didn’t like it.This particular computer has a very niche market so I'd imagine not many retailers would have much inventory - a one-to-one exchange hardly seems a practical expectation. Hi all,
I know this is not a question about 16-inch macbook, but i hope someone here can help me a bit. I am using macOS Catalina version 10.15.3 I would like to know.. 1. How can I make the top bar (dunno what it is called, i am very new to Mac OS) the bar that shown the battery with its percentages together with time to permanently shown instead of it will slide off the screen when my mouse do not hover over it? 2. I know that I can split the browsers of 2 different windows from the minimize and maximize button but it is kinda hassle. Is it possible for me to set the configuration to make it like Windows where I just need to drag the browser window to either side of the screen and it will auto split screen to the side that I drag the browser window to? Thank you |

No need to have so much function just want the status bar to be shown permanently even when I am surfing...except watch movie 😆 Even my previous MacBook Pro 13"/15" notebooks from year 2016, 2017, 2018 and early-2019 - did not exhibit such issues. Probably the MacBook in your video is defective, and should be sent for repair. For your first question, To show those battery details on your status bar permanently, you need to install a third-party app. I'm using iStat Menus, and I highly recommend it. Full of various diagnostics for the MacBook Pro including all temperature sensors, etc. Refer to my picture below. ![]() Thank you |

Guys, I might be buying a Macbook Pro soon but I'm torn between the 16-inch and the 2019 15-inch... mainly because I love the butterfly keyboard and hated my 2015 scissor switch keyboard... Is this a main factor I should consider?

I had the same doubt like yours, after a week of consideration, with dozens of comparison from youtube(mostly) I ended up buying the 16 inch and you will not regret it.The battery with 100wh is a total plus. |

Hi guys, do you guys think MBP16 is too big/heavy to carry around? Considering MBP16 because of the screen size.

QUOTE(loon1983 @ Apr 2 2020, 11:43 PM) Hi, since you've bought a US set, was thinking if there's any difference compared to the ones sold locally? I saw a couple of selling it for much lower, even lower than Education pricing, only gripe is to get the travel adapter kit (Apple Duckhead) and swap out the US to 3pin UK and we're set to go right? |

QUOTE(Icehart @ May 9 2020, 05:05 PM) Shopee, Lazada or even Facebook Marketplace. Hi, seems like you have experience in buying from these places. Cheapest is in Carousell. Btw trade at your own risk. Insist on COD always. I saw a unit on Carousell, claimed that its new / sealed from US. However, I'm just worried about the warranty period - activated or inactivated. Also, is there anything I should ask from the seller, as a buyer before I make a purchase? Seller's reputation quite legit, 50+ reviews all 5* with Carousell Protection. |

QUOTE(Hilarion @ May 11 2020, 03:39 PM) Thanks. I actually ordered the Apple Travel adapter already, skeptical about using a non-authentic 3pin adapter. The rest should be fine right? Yes, should be fine. Make sure it's a sealed unit. Then open the unit in front of you to make sure it's not an empty box lol |

Dont worry about the weight, unless you have jelly hands. For a 16 inch laptop, it weighs almost the same as many office laptops that are only 13 inch. |

QUOTE(dikae @ May 24 2020, 04:18 AM) Ooo strange for a sealed unit to have early serial activation..did you ask them about it and what was the reply? It is likely the warranty date activated from the date of purchase - so likely when the stock reaches here in Malaysia, it will be 1 month or so short due to shipping etc. Even after you’ve entered the purchase date upon activation of the product, it will still return to the original purchase date after 24 hours of activation. It’s Apple’s way of controlling warranty periods because its as if you’re purchasing a ‘re-sell’ unit that is sealed. |

But most people get their MacBooks 2-6 days after purchase, so do you mean they get only 11 months warranty or so?Even after you’ve entered the purchase date upon activation of the product, it will still return to the original purchase date after 24 hours of activation. Highly doubt there will be any announcement during WWDC since it's a developer conference. I do foresee a minimal difference between the Gen 10 and Gen 9 CPUs - it's Intel, who are we kidding? Wifi 6 was hygiene for the 10th gen chips, and the 13' didn't ship with it, so I doubt Apple will include that for the 16', if that's what you are waiting for. Also, the 10th gen chips are significantly higher in price in comparison to the 9th gen, so there is a possibility that the price might be bumped a little, or another way is to not give you 'higher / better' specs to compensate the extra cost. If you don't have a laptop, need one urgently, I would just say go for it. If you don't mind waiting and have one laptop on hand then you can continue waiting. One lesson that I've learned from anticipating new technologies, don't wait for them. Just get it. The 16' is good enough to last you for many years to come. If you ever have doubts, just scroll through reddit under the Macbook Pro sub-section, you'll have plenty of insights there |

Question, is it advisable to use a tempered glass/screen protector on the MacBook? I’ve been using TG on all my iPads/iPhones but not sure if its a good idea to slap one on the mbp..
Also, do you use any keyboard protectors? I read keyboard protectors will somewhat damage the screen (in long run). I’m planning to use the very thin silicone that’d fit only the keyboard..not sure if it’s recommended. |

Your devices are touch screen, so TG is normal, Macbooks aren't touchscreens sooooo you're good. Just make sure you wipe the keyboard after each use to make sure no debris is caught in between, if you are really fussy about it. QUOTE(dikae @ May 27 2020, 07:49 PM) Oh I have actually seen many people uses the silicone keyboard protector, didn’t really notice the tempered glass from a glance.. screen protector/tempered glass will totally ruin the display of macbook. a lot of screen protector/tempered glass such as moshi one are matt finished. it will bring the brightness and clarity of the display of macbook all the down. Display of macbook is nice is because the display is retina and glossy finish that's why it looks vivid, virant and nice. Why suddenly go naked? Anything went wrong or just don’t like the protector feel? keyboard protector to me is a must as i cannot tahan the keyboard turn oily with all the stains on it after a period of usage. |

If ur tempered glass is clear type and the clarity is good, it should not matter then. however, macbook display seriously do not need a tempered glass. My macbook is 3 years old now without any protector or tempered glass since day 1, it also does not have a single scratch yet.Are you using those silicone keyboard protector that fit just right onto the keyboard? I am clear silicone keyboard protector that cover individual keys except the Touch Bar portion. |

QUOTE(dikae @ May 27 2020, 09:54 PM) Haha I get you Keyboard protector I put it on all the time as I really use my MacBook on the go nowadays. Mostly 24x7 on like a server at home. Oh...aside from the display resolution, is it true what others said about using tempered glass + keyboard protector will damage the display in long run? Because of the thin gap in between bla and bla... If I really need to close the laptop, I will remove the keyboard protector. It will not really damage the display physically since it is just a silicon. However, it will leave stains on the display and if you dun clean up soon in long run it may become a permanent mark on the display. Tempered glass unlikely will damage the display la. Normally it is quite thin, even when you close it and it touches the keyboard also it should not cause much impact. Unless ur tempered glass is really really thick. |

Like what others, it is not touchscreen after all.TG in the first place is not easy to find for laptop too. Branded one like Moshi is matte one. Cheap one I have not seen it before yet. |

QUOTE(sonic_sphere @ May 26 2020, 01:58 PM) I'm also considering to get one... but looking that intel have launched new 10th gen for their processor... i'm afraid later Apple will update their specs to the latest processor... any thoughts? I'd rather go for the 2019 version than the upcoming 2020. For good reasons, the update for 2020 version is not worth waiting as mini-led is still the same LCD panel, not even an OLED. And that's probably the only update that is "major". And having the first version (2019) is like owning a historical piece since it's the debut product while owning a 2020, 2021 is like meh considering it will be the same albeit specs bump. In fact even if the 2020 was already available, I would still buy the 2019 version for that exact reason of owning an exclusive debut product while still maintaining the same design. Which is why I sold my iPhone XS a couple months ago and bought a used iPhone X instead, yep no joke. |

Was told that the base model 6 core i7 is faster than the 8 core i9 in basic stuffs that don’t utilize all 8 cores (was also told that most things besides editing are considered basic stuffs)..is that true?

QUOTE(dikae @ Jun 7 2020, 02:33 PM) Totally unique perspective, which I doubt many would follow your point of view technically it is the same actually. I’d wait for the 2020 if you’re not in a rush getting one, but if you need one immediately then just pull the trigger already for example, an iphone 11 Pro costs RM 4,899. the usable life span is 5 years min for an iPhone. rm4899/5 = rm979.80 per year. if you are buying a brand new iPhone 11 Pro now at rm500 and the reason is that you do not need the best techs for going for iphone 12 Pro. actually u are not making any savings unless you buy at a price that is even way cheaper than rm979.80 now. although you may save the one year of cost, u dun get the latest looking phone/latest techs. so when you performing the daily tasks etc, you do not get the same response time as the latest model. so it is still the same still actually. cannot really considered as saving. |

You're talking about AppleCare or about getting the Mac from them?AFAIK, they don't advertise the one w/ AppleCare, just so happens that when I contact them, they told me the ONLY stock they have was the one w/ AppleCare and that's exactly what I wanted. I still see the data that shows that the i9 is still faster. Also, I can't brain your statement that i7 has higher turbo boost. U sure? i7 - 2.6(Base) - 4.5 (Boost) i9 - 2.3(Base) - 4.8 (Boost) The i9, at least based on the data from GeekBench still shows superiority over the i7. I got AppleCare for 1/2 the price of retail. Another guy got it for like 1/4 the retail price. (and we lost like between 2 weeks to 1 month of the 3 years warranty period)For AppleCare, I think cannot. You need to SEND / SHOW the Mac to them possibly. That was my experience when I went to purchase AppleCare in Paradigm mall Mac shop. They had to call up and ask and send photos of the "state" of the machine. (maybe cos I was buying apple care at like the 11th month after I got the Mac) Just ask for fren to ask the ppl at apple in spore loh. |

Bosses all...
what you guys use for USB C hub ah? Can send me some recommendations ah? (The one I bought (wrongly) is those that plug direct into the laptop. Regret liao cos can't fit when I'm using a Mac Casing.. 😭 ) Other question, any issues when connecting MBP to external monitor? I connect to my VERY old Dell U2410 and the fonts looks ugly and blurry. I'm not sure if this is due to the Mac (using the USB hub to HDMI) issue or something else. I'm starting to think that it's the monitor. Too Old liao. (lifespan exceeded???) I plug in my 2006 year laptop using VGA also don't seem that nice. This monitor when I first bought it is very high end one leh... TQ |

Hi guys, has anyone of you tried the magnetic USB-C charger for Macbook Pro? I saw some cables that can mimic the MagSafe connection.

If your battery capacity falls below 80% in the 3 years, you can claim a free battery. |

QUOTE(PoisonSoul @ Jun 15 2020, 11:55 PM) Apple has quietly updated their MBP 16" to have a better GPU - 5600M and it cost RM3200 (from base model) just to get that GPU. And people are already calling it the 2020 Macbook Pro 16 lol. Its not even an upgrade, just another option to get the 5600M.![]() Honestly, I rather people get an eGPU with that money because the 5600M already draws 50w of power and if you are connected to a 4K monitor + work / gaming, that 96w of power supply is going to struggle, especially on Bootcamp where Microsoft doesn’t do a good job in managing the CPU unlike MacOS. |

Either that or my ciplak USBC to lightning cable is so ciplak. |

The only apps I open is outlook , finder, excel, safari, and teams. And it’s already used up 10Gb. There was an explanation on why RAM usage by OS is fairly high but I can't find it right now. I'll try to recall what I have read. The person said that from the start, OS-es are designed to take up as much ram as possible to utilize what you have paid for. Imagine you paid XX amount of money for 32GB of ram but the OS only takes (let's just say) 4GB of RAM. In a way, to you might look at it as "Hey look my device has so much RAM left. Glad I have bought so much RAM and it's future proof." but actually that's bad. You have your OS on your SSD but your RAM is small, so how? The computer is not able to store more data temporarily into the RAM and therefore, slowing down the booting of OS. At this point if this happens to you, you might say "eh I just upgraded to SSD why it is still slow?". Now after booting up, why is it still taking so much RAM? OS logic = "When you need it, they have it instant/on the fly for you." Plus, the computer doesnt need to go to the SSD to file that particular file again and the SSD is free to do other things, maybe R/W some other data. Oh yea, if other apps need more RAM, then the computer/OS will know to "throw" which files that are in the RAM and create new RAM space for the app to launch/use. This is what I've gathered/remembered. I'll try to find the article/video and put it here when I found it. This is a starter. Sauce This post has been edited by PoisonSoul: Jun 17 2020, 12:28 PM |

I guess, whichever RAM variant you choose, it will still show a high utilization on MacOS - but this shouldn't be an issue once you've gotten used to it. I'd rather have high RAM utilization than having more power drain on BootCamp Literally had to use 3 software(s) to ensure my machine is running 'cool' while on bootcamp. |

Any users here care to share on their impressions on the 16” after months of using now?
Any heating/noisy fan issue? Looking to use it for daily usage, editing + casual gaming, e.g WoW, Dota etc. |

QUOTE(codenamew @ Jun 19 2020, 12:06 PM) Thanks bro for explanation. Yes I read somewhere on the net too on Mac OS ram usage. I just move from windows to macOS that’s why I’m not too sure of the ram usage in macOS. But then I still feel Microsoft apps is kind of lag in macOS compared to in boot camp. I find boot camp is more smooth. But then power not so efficient. Windows actually consumes a lot of RAM for caching too. It's just not readily reflected in the Task Manager.Microsoft never put in any major effort into translating apps into Apple native code. It's good enough, but it's no replacement for the Windows variant. If you're a power user of MS Office apps, I'd suggest spending a bit of money on VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop and a Windows license. |

Wife just made payment on Shopee for i9 1tb version for my bday. Gonna be the most expensive laptop I’ve ever own... hope I don’t get disappointed by this 😅
Was actually more interested in Dell XPS 15 but the massive negative feedback on their QC and issues pushed me back... |

Hoho my Mac just suffered from ghosting & flickering issue.
Sent back to QCD @ Sunway for diagnostics, hopefully its not a hardware issue - apparently its common for Retina display. |

QUOTE(andrewtho @ Jul 27 2020, 02:17 PM) It will be done locally. All authorized service centres will attend to you, as long as its under warranty. Parts will be ordered from Singapore directly (if required). QUOTE(Lego Warfare @ Jul 27 2020, 02:41 PM) Like what andrewtho mentioned, SG will be the main service hub. If a replacement unit is given it will also be dispatched from SG. Oo..then the info given by Apple store, Apple online support and Senheng is not correctThey told me the unit will divert to US for warranty and it might take 2-3 months to get it back. |

For now I feel like I lost interest in gaming haha. If I want to game, I will install windows OS at external hard disk. I have tried gaming on boot camp before using bootcamp custom amd drivers and it is quite smooth. Mine is the 16Gb version. Mac manage the ram quite well I would say. |

QUOTE(alandhw @ Jul 28 2020, 09:33 AM) Cheaper price = more demand. We're talking about thousands in savings, that's alot compared to local units - and no retailers are willing to sacrifice their thin margin to sell it lower. Margin is lower because they are authorized retailers, not directly Apple so you need margin to be profitable. Give you a perspective, would you rather buy a local set that is priced the same as retail stores from a 3rd party? Most will say no. So hence why these 3rd parties will get US sets - and Macbooks are covered by International Warranty, so no worries - just change the duckhead (plug) and you are good to go. alandhw liked this post

QUOTE(Lego Warfare @ Oct 6 2020, 09:30 AM) If you have a 4tb MBP then sure. Mine is only 1tb so I need all the space I can save. I'm still wondering - why most people installing Windows on MBP?Yes boot camp Windows. It is because of the spec that could run better Windows and for gaming? Just curious... |
