Obviously Apple is differentiating their product range, face-is remains exclusive to iPhones and iPads.

truly a first class portable workstation.

Most importantly it is cheaper than previous 15-inch and again better. Quite value for money.

Yeah. Really cheaper. Last year same staring price only has 256gb storage while now has 512gb.

The 256gb extra storage will cost sgd250 to 300 and above to get if upgrade normally.

But a Super deal breAker is the weight. It goes back to 2015 15-inch that kind of weight. WTF.

And no wifi 6. Even new iPhones have it.

Noice, i was going to wait for it but went with Imac top tier + 128GB Ram instead.

I am glad they finally admitted thin is not the answer but all the problems for overheat. Love to see it's not longer thin obsessed piece of hair dryer tho the useless AF touch bar still there.

I think the 13-inch deserves a redesign too with thinner bezels.

But please do not increase the weight like the 16-inch. The weight is insane.

Touchbar is not exactly useful but it is a nice piece of tech. I would love to see it there always. 😜

I taped mine otherwise it's impossible to use that piece of garbage without hitting the escape key and undo everything i do, like a delete key time fcking bomb. STUPID AF piece of shit.

Plus Radeon Pro Vega 48 with 8GB, The 128GB ram of course not coming from Apple but 3rd party Samsung memory. That's the benefit of a desktop with snap in memory stick.

I use it for Image, Video processing plus coding. The imac 27-inch 5k also drives a dual 4k 27inches setup. An Imac drives 3 high res monitors with ease, i can't say about any MBPs, even this new one's fan would blow OFF like JET.

This is MacBook. So wifi is important. It does not even come with wired port for reason. And it should be the case also. It is for on the go unless iMac etc.

Ah, workhorse. Sometimes I just wonder why my Mac mini can utilize like 60-70% of 64GB ram with just a few open tabs without any VM running :x I opened the cover for mine and placed a 20cm Noctua fan right under it to keep the Mac mini, TB3 NVME drives and toasty SPF+ modules cool

Haha, I connect my Macbooks n Surface Pro using Ethernet (dongles) most of the time. Maybe wifi 6 is excluded due to intel (cpu with integrated wifi)?

i do connect my macbook pro 13-inch 2017 to ethernet also since my usb-c dongle has it. but important reason is it is running 24x7 at home on my table which i did not even move.

if you are really carrying your macbook pro here and there, it is a different case.

although i pointed the wifi 6 on the new macbook pro. to be frank, for real life usage, the 802.11ac is still pretty sufficient.

dun forget also to support wifi 6, ur wifi router etc needs to support it also.

the price is promising, same price as 256gb 2018 macbook pro but with so much more improvements.

now it makes the 13-inch macbook pro not worthy.

if you consider a same storage size (512gb) + 4 thunderbolt 3 ports + 16gb model of 13-inch macbook pro, it is already almost the same price as base model of 2019 16-inch macbook pro not to mention the processor is not even on par, screen size, speakers, keyboard etc.

Ha. It appears there's a physical ESC key now with 16-inch!! At least they are not ignorant and i am not alone. Esc touch key is a disaster, who ever designed and approved this from the beginning would get smacked by Jobs if he wasn't 6 feet under.

Once you used up most the ports, plus external high res monitors with mobile grade video card... things start to break apart, devices start to drop connections and slow down. External HDD for instance, you can't even play video. I open probably 30-50 browsers tabs when i code, my MBP couldn't handle it but the 128GB iMac just chilling...

It is the processor of iMac that makes it possible. dun think the ram makes so much difference.

Browser tabs and loading big files are all Ram power. CPU probably best for transcoding then again it will hits bottomneck on large video images files processing as well.

Now I feel like selling my 2016 mbp for this.

Now customers can pay less for 512gb, better audio, better graphics, KEYBOARD and longer batt life.

I've been using a 13-inch retina MBP since 2013 and never upgraded because I didn't like the touchbar and butterfly keys on every MBP for the past 4 years

Yeah should be a worthy upgrade, just that for 13-inch MacBook Pro users, the 2kg weight can be a bummer.

browser tabs or loading big files need ram yes but likely not due to 128gb ram. what is the number of tabs or the size of big file to load at once in order to fully utilise 128gb ram? u will likely to hit the bottleneck by other factors such as processor etc.

And application itself also makes a difference, chrome or photoshop are known to be hunger for ram but it is due to the application too.

Similar application such as safari or Final Cut Pro x will utilise ram in a different ways too.

For most use cases for most people, I dun think they can fully utilise the 128gb ram due to all the factors that can bottleneck it. Even it can, it is likely nor for constant workload for the use cases. It is likely for niche group of people who know exactly what they are doing.

AC with consumer router is okay for mobile usage and light to medium usage with relatively low speed internet, but when you have 1Gbps up/dl, wired > wifi...

desktop Mac utilise the RAM more aggressively as it should compared to MacBooks, my 2014 mini fully utilise 16GB RAM within 30 minutes on boot and once it start compressing and swapping, everything slow downs as it couldn't free up enough ram in a short time if the mini was equipped with CPU that support large ram like the iMac, 3 digit ram

Seriously, looking at the price vs the package. I think one should consider 16-inch now instead of 13-inch (or 14-inch?). It is much more worth it to get the 16-inch for everything that is better than the smaller counterpart.

Dun think it will be worth it for 14-inch unless there is great reduction in price if it is launched later.

I will wait for the scissor keyboard to be implemented back on the upcoming 14” MBP & MBA next year.

Most probably apple will launch on March 2020 event.

MBA is a redundant line-up. they should kill it and get 12-inch back. then 12-inch, 14-inch, 16-inch will make up the complete line-ups.

Guys, new member here. I'm thinking of getting the new 16-inch to replace my 2013 13.3-inch MBP.

Normal use, some video and photo editing. Pushing almost to the max of my 512GB SSD and 16GB ram once in a while. Sometimes needing a restart. Do you guys think the 16GB ram will be enough with the better CPU etc or should I pay the enormous amount for the 32GB?

That was what I was thinking. I maxed out my 2013 MBP to 16gb back then. Maybe thats why I can still use it now. But, the extra cost is quite a lot. Some people say that we should just go for 64gb since the cost per gb from 32 to 64 is less.

If the cost is not significant and again you have extra notes to burn, no harm getting 64GB also. It is better to overkill after all instead of facing underpowered problem later.

The 64 is not that cheap. Anyone going for the 64? Give me your opinion please. Im leaning towards the 32 actually.

If one does not even know whether to go for 64GB, likely that you do not need it. They are likely for very niche group of people who really know what they want.

Save the $$$ for other things instead.

Thanks for the reply. I think you are right. I went for the full 16gb for my 2013 MBP and I was only feeling that its used to its full potential the last 2-3 years. When I started seeing spinning wheels off and on while working on videos and my RAW photos. I went for the 16gb during that time because I was having hanging issues with my 2008 MBP before that when dealing with RAW files. I dont make it a habit to look at the usage levels etc while Im working, so cant answer if you have technical questions about that.

Graphical performance is good also.

I recall few years back, there's no Apple no-question-asked return policy even in US. Walmart shitty products have 3 months return policy! Back then, Apple USA had two weeks return grace period but only if defective, if return simply you don't like it, you only get store credit.

watch through this video, i think its simplify enough of getting what you need according to what you want to do. honestly, 64gb is very overkill unless you run VM alot or you already know, you need it.
just ordered a customize 32gb with 5500 8gb on the base 2.3ghz 8-core over the phone.
find it funny you cant do a customize back-order directly at the Apple store, only sell you what they have on hand instead

Tested the 8-core base model. Runs damm smooth with even big raw files. And video editing is a breeze. I dont do VM so unsure how it does.

I think a lot of Asians abusing this to the max. Can “borrow” a computer for a project and then return it. Meanwhile just buy a Macbook Air for daily use.

Unfortunately Apple is very smart. They get you more and more invested in their products until you can no longer leave. Started with a Mac, then iphone, then watch.
