Nope. Malaysia only sells Apple Care not "plus". The only thing with "plus" is you get coverage for accidental damage to screen etc. But only limited to 2 times. And for each time, you have to pay a small fee. For example if break your screen, they will replace it for you for RM400 if you have Apple Care+ vs almost RM2k (not sure the price) if you ask apple to change it for you. I would buy Apple Care+ for phone. But MB maybe less change of drop right?
*
I was thinking that it would have no chances of dropping as well. And i didn't get it until today. Really stupid accident at it too.

When I am at home, I dun use case. If I need to bring my MBP out, i will put on the Moshi case, so far so good, the condition is still pristine. Mine is 2017 model.
*
I had the Late 2016 15”, never have I cracked a laptop screen. I always use a drop proof case, but due to the shipping delays from Taobao, I couldnt get my case in time to prevent this. And to top it off, I just had this for 3 weeks

yeah, i mean that one biggrin.gif. it only cost a fraction of the MBP, but well, godbless just in case.

Actually just got it registered shortly after I broke the screen just now. As I only had it for a little bit. Luckily it went through, gonna make a claim sooner or later. Although its the Base i9 spec, still my wallet hurts. Wonder how much a 16” with Care+ will go for. Looking to get a 16” with 32GB of ram instead

How did you get the AppleCare+? From which country?
*
I bought a brand new US set in Malaysia. Got my friend to register the Care+ in US, was about 1.6k all in. Deductible is more or less 500.

oh iPhone with apple care+ also can claim in Malaysia ? that nice
*
But iPhone is unbreakable one. Laptops are really easy to drop and crack

My experience for the past few flagships (X and XS Max) is very easy to be water damaged. My X got water damage after 3 months of usage and XS Max got glitched out after 2 months.

Just saw this post. Lucky you! I suggest you send it in for repair when you are travelling to one of the countries which support Apple Care+. Singapore or HK maybe. When I sent mine to Malaysian agent, they had to check with Apple and the process is a bit long. Firstly even told me that it was not covered.
*
Unfortunately, I don't travel anywhere doh.gif, plus if I do send it in during a trip, the service turnaround time would probably have to be damn fast. I will revert to a 2014 15" atm when this is in for service next week. Can't look at the screen any longer as the bottom part is blacking out more and more often.

Let us know what happens when you send it in, especially how much they charge. I am interested to know also. Although I hope I never have to deal with a cracked screen.
*
Another deductible of 500 (hopefully with fingers crossed). That’s based on the screen and housing damage deductible for Care+

And of course bro, let’s hope we don’t ever have to face a cracked screen.

One question, is it safe to buy the "US set" macbookpro 16 inch in malaysia with way cheaper price than the official price ? looking for one but quite skeptical as the price different is 2k++
*
For me it is okay as I got a 3k discount. I am not worried about any workmanship defects of the laptop as it can be claimed her with no issue.

You are not protected under Malaysian Consumer Law if you purchase a US model. However, you will be covered by the Apple Warranty. Previously I bought a 15 inch MacBook Pro that was repaired few times for the keyboard issues in one year and under the consumer law, I got a full refund on my previous purchase and use the fund to purchase the new 16 inch. So... depends on you I guess.
*
Yup this is of course a piece of mind when you buy Malaysia set. However, I am always seeking for a bargain since I am still a student. Claiming it with Apple is always a straight forward process

Yes I would totally get a US model if I wasn't going to configure mine. Mine comes with 32GB RAM and 8GB VRAM haha.
I think it's a really good deal and a no brainer to get US model if possible
*
I actually found this configuration but the price difference ain’t much. Came out to be about 13k

Bro, just wondering. For Apple Care+, do you have to register it within 90 days from the purchase date, similar to the regular Apple Care?
*
Yup 90 days from purchase date as usual

QUOTE(MacDaNife @ Mar 5 2020, 07:41 AM)
The usual Malaysian feeling of entitlement "I bought something expensive so therefore I am deserving of special treatment" needs to end.

This particular computer has a very niche market so I'd imagine not many retailers would have much inventory - a one-to-one exchange hardly seems a practical expectation.

I would hesitate to infer that this is a problematic machine though. Mine has been problem free since purchase. What this does make very clear is there is little advantage to buying from a brick-and-mortar shop as if you have any problems (again, this is quite rare) they would still direct you to an online resolution of the problem from Apple.
*
It’s not the entitlement of special treatment because the laptop is not expensive for the value it gives (Windows workstation laptops cost upwards of 16k) but if it was to happen to you on day 1, you would probably want to have a 1 to 1 exchange to. It’s just a base model 16”, they should have it in stock any day. And mind you, they offer 14 days exchange period in many stores overseas. Regardless if it broke or you simply didn’t like it.

Buying at the right time I suppose. The price for the same laptop from the seller is 1k more expensive now. Glad I bought it earlier

Honestly after a while it feels heavy, but as you go try carrying a 15” gaming laptop, you cant even hold it with one hand. At least this 16” is still able to be carried one-handedly
