Hye sifus. Getting my new house around dec this year. Need some advices. Do i need to build kitchen cabinet asap or should i wait until inspect the house 1st. I m first home buyer really lost in rather what to do 1st.

Wait until you inspect your house first. Some rectification works might need to be done by developer after checks.

It is easier to visualize your kitchen layout and ensure it is functional when you are in that space.

But if you have the house plan, can start visiting kitchen cabinet companies for ideas on design, layout and shortlist them (find out the waiting time).

Also need to decide whether you are planning to get a contractor, cabinet company or interior designer for the house...

Yes, if checks done and you are happy with it. Can arrange for KC if you don't have any plans of doing extra wet works/ extensions/ first fix plumbing/ first fix electrical wiring/ tiles installation/ plaster ceiling.

Difference between them...

Interior designer designs it and will manage/ coordinate everyone including contractor and kitchen cabinet co.
Contractor will get wet works subcontractor, electrician, cabinet subcontractor, tiles installer. Sometimes you can also opt to select your own cabinet company.
Interior designer vs contractor. This sums it up...

Cabinet company/ Cabinet designer design the kitchen cabinet only & wardrobes but if concrete countertop required they will arrange it if you don't have a contractor/ interior designer

That answer alot of my question. I m on the lighter side on the budget.. In ur opinion is it okay if i only do countertop and below cabinet and later on upgrade? Cause the kitchen area is kinda big. Around 12*10 ft.

Yeah. Good to stick to your budget. Basic kitchen is fine as long as it does the job…able to store and prepare healthy tasty food. smile.gif

Tall units (build in cabinets from floor to ceiling) can be quite costly but useful for storage. In the meantime can use simple metal shelf… lots of ideas in pinterest.

If you are planning to upgrade later, bear that in mind when planning your kitchen layout so won’t waste money, material and effort later on. And better to make it future proof…

Most of the time, if you are buying new build property, after you getting the key, you will still need a time to checking on the house defect, then fill up the form to ask for rectify, and until they done the rectify, usually also taking about a months time, so if you have more free time then you can look around for quotation, but that quotation will not really mean anything because that only estimation, then after you getting a key on the defect time, you still need to bring over some contractor to do measurement so that you able to get official and accurate quote with the actual measurement.

I would expect you want many measurements instead of depth only.
Perhaps, you can refer to Ikea Metod series for such info.
For example, Ikea base cabinet depth is 60cm meanwhile worktop is 63.5cm.

About 2 ft.

Mine
Side panel 60.5cm
My carcass less than 60.5cm (theres a 3cm gap between wall and back of carcass)
Countertop 61.5cm (made to measure after the wood works was done)

After surveying for well over a month for kitchen cabinet (over 20 shops), I’ve made a top 3 with a price range between RM9-12k for melamine carcass with either 4G or acrylic door.

But I still couldn’t make my mind up as wanted to do some research on Google, Facebook and Instagram.

Then on Sunday I came across a straight from factory type of kitchen cabinet maker on Instagram. He said he has no showroom, it’s straight from the factory hence the price is much lower.

He quoted me RM6.5k wiring and hacking included
Factory is in Shah Alam.

Would this be reliable? Or is this a case of too good to be true?

For the kitchen top, he’ll give me quartz but I prefer to source the quartz myself so that I feel assured of the quality.

But how about the kitchen cabinet? Usually people use melamine. Could it be possible that he uses an even lower quality material? Is there such a thing?

Many thanks in advance
