But good thing is that it has laminated display with True Tone somemore this is really nice. Even got p3 wide colour gamut.

i compared the tech specs between mini and Air..

both of thm have same estimated usage time.. even tho Air got bigger battery.. lol

This is the first time Apple does not conpromiuse specs for smaller iPad mini comparing to iPad Air. Exact same spec except no Smart Keyboard support but this function is totally not important to me haha.

It has the highest ppi among all ipad after all even better than iPad Pro. Haha.

Cheaper than my iPad Mini 4 64 GB bought on launch day. IIRC it was around RM2000

This one (base model) is a lot cheaper.

Owned ipad pro and varios 10in size tablets. In the end got myself a Huawei Mediapad M5 8in due to the size.

Definitely getting this new ipad mini... Only question is wifi or wifi+cellular...

RM1,499 would've been the sweet spot price. I'll refrain myself from go see the demo set or else definitely gonna buy one

Mainly is the size. I don't need a large iPad at home as I have my PC connected to my TV. A small iPad Mini hit the sweet spot when I am watching Netflix and need to surf some net. Or need to bring a screen that is slightly larger than my phone. For example, when I need to wait for my wife to do her facial in a Mall...an iPad Mini is perfect for me to watch some YouTube or Netflix while waiting for her. And I do not need to carry a huge iPad while shopping in the mall after her facial.

After waiting for a long time, finally it is out. Disappointed with the bezel, Apple is too conservative with that. Still getting one due to the smaller size. My current iPad Air with keyboard cover are simply too heavy for me.

I am so glad that the iPad Mini has been refreshed, definitely meets a need especially my wife who wants one LOL.

A little disappointed because it is not USB-C ports. I'll keep my mini-4 for now... just have to bare with the slow app switching...

Bro. Judging how long the iPad mini 2 last for us, go for 256 for sure.

I'm excited for the specs but not at all on the design though. I was really looking forward to a much thinner bezel in the refreshed unit. Nevertheless, the spec does outweigh the style, so yeah, I'm looking forward to upgrade from my iPad mini 2, which by the way, is pretty awesome too.

Ideally iPad mini 256gb wifi + cellular should be the future proof option if one plans to use it for 5 years or more.

cellular option will be useful to go around and it can be used as a mifi if you have extra data SIM card to use or going overseas.

I will certainly get the space grey colour. After owning all the iPad mini with white front, I think it is still better for the black front version.

iPad Mini 2 is getting really sluggish now but I have no intention to buy a new iPad. Mini2 will be my last iPad purchase. It is my parting gift to Apple since they introduced IAP which broke the ecosystem. Not to mention that now they even stopped the older games from running if the developers didnt update the app. I thought its the manufacturer's job to make sure backward compatibility but that does not seem to apply with Apple. Hence farewell Apple.

yes, it is a good mifi device which i have been doing it all the time. but of course a standalone mifi + powerbank is still the best solution for hotspot. haha.

Many may say with the new iPhone XS Max the iPad mini maybe redundant. However, it is not the case. One can easily see that iPad mini the screen size, on number may look not Super big difference with the max one but the difference is quite significant in real.

This i totally agree. I have a XS MAX and an old Mini 2 at home. I find myself to pick up the Mini to watch YouTube and surf more frequent. And in fact Mini feel more comfortable when reading article online....maybe I am old already though

I personally think these 2 are very diff product and target very different set of people.
If you love the Mini form factor and it portability, you will not look at the Air.
If u suddenly found yourself wanting a larger screen and slightly more modern form factor (with that slightly smaller bezel), then get the iPad Air.

By the way, Air could be better with the new IOS features of split screen, video on top your screen etc. It even better IF Apple ever redesign their iOS specifically for iPad...and call it pOS?

it is the aspect ratio that makes the difference. the aspect ratio of mini makes it more suitable for reading/watching despite that they are displaying the same content.

apple has clear differentiation of their product line-up.

now we have low (ipad 2018), mid (ipad air 2019 and ipad mini 2019), high (ipad pro 11-inch and 12.9-inch) for their ipad line-up.
so ipad pro market will not be compromised by the lower ranges.

same apple will not make the ipad pro a compromise to their macbook line-up.

yes, there are actually many people love the form factor of ipad mini, this is the reason why apple did not kill it.
i am one of the all-time lover. i own ipad mini 1, 2 and 3 except 4. but i am going back to ipad mini 2019 (so called 5).

iOS now actually already have differentiation between ipad and iphone. there are specific ipad version of apps and there are exclusive features to ipad like split screen etc.
they do not need to create a separate iOS just becos of this.

my thought is Apple were smart in releasing the 2 products before the event on 25th March. It nice surprise , even not evolutionary product- it still bring more praise than bash.

If indeed they use the event to launch- expectation could be too high and many gonna condemn and condemn.
