Just need to repeat this from multiple forumers constantly to prevent newbies from timing the market with stashaway.

Wanna time the market? Open a brokerage account.

I am new to this, never invested anything before. Some advice would be greatly appreciated.

From what I gather what I should do or not do is:
1. Do not change risk index halfway through. Stick with it.
2. Regular deposit is the way.

Now my questions are:
Q1. I understand the whole premise is to select a risk that I am comfortable with. But I have this perception that in a long run the returns will be positive even for higher risk because the market grows (No idea whether this is correct or not, just gather from what I read). If that's the case and I am investing for long term >10 years, shouldn't I just select 36%?
Q2. speaking of this exact moment today, I have a sum of money. Should I break it down and deposit regularly (4x monthly), or just deposit it whole now? This amount is significant to me, but isn't all I have.
Q3. Is there any real benefits to invest into multiple risk index instead of sticking to 1 for a long run? (Similar to Q1)

Thanks in advance.

Comment regarding your point 1. Do not change risk index halfway through. Stick with it:
"Do not" sounds strong; it's not wrong to do it, you just need to know what and why you're doing it. Changing RI tells SA to sell and buy different things using your money, and in doing so, realising whatever profit/loss then and there. Somewhere down the road, you may find yourself having different risk appetite or you're investing on other different stuff, that will prompt you into changing your risk index, nothing wrong with it.

Answers:
1. Short answer: yes. Long answer: pick one that complements your other investments, for diversification purpose. Look at 36% SRI portfolio allocation, it weighs more heavily on China market(?) and is 100% equities. If you have your own brokerage account and you're already investing heavily on the same side, then you probably want to pick a different SRI to have more exposure in different market/instructments.
2. Do what is most comfortable to you smile.gif look up on "DCA" and/or "lump sum" in this topic and I'm sure you'll get many recurring advices on that.
3. Like you said it's similar to Q1, the answer is similar to A1 tongue.gif see bold

Welcome to investments!

If u foreseen it will in upward trending, will suggest u either SRI 30% or 36% if u young enough......this two got a bit diff in asset/etf.....pls flip2 n check it

Q2. speaking of this exact moment today, I have a sum of money. Should I break it down and deposit regularly (4x monthly), or just deposit it whole now? This amount is significant to me, but isn't all I have.
First , ask urself........u know how to timing market?.....if yes, wait the lowest point n lump sum in......then wait it up.
If u not pro in timing market, just DCA.....
got many choice,
u can lump sum ur money into Stashaways Simple , u set recurring transfer weekly from Stashaway Simple to ur Portfolio (prefer every monday or tuesday, and it take longer time than usual process. U just monthly transfer ur money by Jompay to Stashaway Simple. Not need monitor so frequent......bcoz u not timing it.
OR
U can set recurring deposit (by Jompay) weekly from ur acc to Stashaways Portfolio..........just ignore the Stashaways Simple.

Q3. Is there any real benefits to invest into multiple risk index instead of sticking to 1 for a long run? (Similar to Q1)
some ppl got diff goal for each portfolio , eg. Retirement Fund (36%), Honey Moon Fund 3 years (22%), Dream Car 5 year (36%), ................up to u......
some ppl got diff portfolio of same risk bcoz they didnt op for re-optimizer in SAMY

all the best , n remember get somebody referral link to enjoy 6 month management fee waiver cool2.gif

Just want to share my experience of SAMY and performance so far.

Started 10th May 2020 so around 13 months so far

Started with 3 portfolios, 8%, 14% and 22%

In Nov 2020, after looking at performance of the 3 portfolios, decided to consolidate all in 22% because it was the best performing.

Weekly DCA without fail.

Dumped in extra money in Feb 2021, in hindsight not the best decision as KWEB was ATH
But in conclusion quite happy with returns and will continue DCA
22% seems to be sweet spot for me risk tolerance wise

TWR 20.01%
MWR 13.33%

withdraw and then buy back again? if yes, when? when dip again? what if the dip is small and it is on its way up?

Withdraw then buy back when you feel it is right because only you can do what is right with your money not me

At the end of day the buying it is based on FX gain 70% and index gain 30% hence you need to be smart on when to buy and sell as last month i already made 3% thanks to volatility and FX dip by MYR and the best 2.5 weeks bull run by far this year on SA rclxms.gif

22% portfolio is very very very stable in terms of price movements hence you need to check once a month because the gain is very steady while it can move against inflationary pressures

You can be thankful because if you were to bought in 36% your portfolio might be in red maybe close to 8% losses due to high exposure to KWEB thumbsup.gif

hi all sifu ,

newbie to investment.

want to ask , is StashAway suitable for ppl like me who like
to put money there and just leave it ? (sort of like semi auto pilot).
with regular deposit of course.
I am not the type that want to keep checking and tweaking this and that
(maybe once a while can)

Thanks

what happens when you checked and noticed that your investment is losing money?
what would you do?
how much % of loses can you "tahan" to see invested money being 'eaten' away?
what would you do?
sell all before it get worse and come back to fight again some other day?

For the manual deposit. Let's say I set RM200 goes to 1 of my portfolio. Do I have to click this transfer instructions in stashaway and confirm everytime I deposit money?

Or each time I Jompay rm200 they will just follow this instruction?

What's the difference with monthly deposit settings?
