i did ask about this, my installer said, all new fiber installation direct use fiber drop cable from pole to modem.
the old type installation with the FWS seems getting some problem after some times.. getting higher 'noise' signal quality.  unsure.gif

They are doing direct from pole to BTU for most new installation now.

Many users dirty or damage the connector when they are removing or shifting their modem.

To eliminate / reduce the problem of dirty connector in client premise. It's a fibre connection. Not copper. The ends must be as clean as possible.

I've asked TM support, they mentioned it's up to contractor and "depending on your place". So it seems to me they are cost cutting and/or also to reduce problems from bad contractor workmanship.

From what I understand, the FWS and the FTB are the proper way to install fibre to home. And this requires fibre to be cut and joined at multiple points (eg. at the FWS and at FTB). But from my previous experience, these contractor workmanship are pretty poor and they can't splice and join the fibre properly. Resulting my internet to be broken and I had to get TM back to fix it. So more connection points = more problems for TM = increase support cost to them. Perhaps TM is side-stepping the proper installation method to cope with poor contractor quality.

Doesn't sound convincing. More of personal decision.

So i had tried 2 way to connect output lan rj45 cable from tplink Archer C1200.

tplink Archer C1200 LAN port----cat5 2 meters lan cable----dlink 4-port switch----generic white color 15 meters lan cable---desktop pc.

tplink Archer C1200 LAN port----cat5 2 meters lan cable----dlink 4-port switch----3.3 meters lan cable----desktop pc.

Im signup 30M unifi package.tm speed test site show download=34M , upload=10M when used wifi pci card. dlink 4-port switch used because 15 meters lan cable fixed and tie on the wall was not long enough connect to tplink Archer C1200 lan port.

Here are the result:

First connect way---download speed=10M , upload speed=10M .

Second connect way---download speed=33.5M , upload speed =10M .

The culprit was the generic white color 15 meters lan cable caused download speed drop to 10M....lost 24M download speed.Found only 4 small core wires inside the lan port head.Others lan cable got 8 small core wires inside the lan port head.

I need 17 meters length lan cable. I want cat.6 cable.
My question is....if i buy quality 20 meters cat.6 lan cable , will it cause download speed drop again ?

Shouldn't be. Cat 6 should be good for 1gb for 100m. A good real Cat 6 cable of course.

Ugreen quality is not great, there are some people reported sync speed dropped to 100Mbps after some time.

I recommend DINTEK instead.

Small percentile manufacturing defect, no manufacturer can avoid that
Been using UGreen ethernet cables for more than 5 years ranging between 5 ~ 30 meters, so far so good

Personal - New account already turboed.
Eg RM129 10 Mbps turboed to 100 Mbps, new account will get 100 Mbps, no need to get 10 Mbps first then turboed to 100 Mbps.

Business
Eg RM179 10 Mbps, new account will get 10 Mbps first then may be turboed to 100 Mbps.

Currently on the Unifi Basic RM79 plan. Is there a way to wiggle out of the contract?

I'm asking since Maxis has the RM89 unlimited which offers far better value.

Replied from Unifi - tweeter
"The unifi turbo upgrade and Streamyx speed upgrading exercise for both consumer and business segments have been successfully implemented. With that, we would like to inform that we will no longer process any unifi turbo upgrade and Streamyx speed upgrade requests starting from 1st May 2019 onwards."

Thanks for your reply. Just confirmed that Maxis are offering a RM500 rebate.

Unfortunately, I still have more than a year on my contract. Sucks.
