Quick Question:

My area finally going to have Unifi, and I plan on getting the 100Mbps package (RM129). As a new Unifi subscriber (coming from 8Mbps Screamyx) wil I be eligible for turbo speed upgrade?

Sorry for the silly question, haven't been following Unifi news and updates for so long since I had given up hope that my area will eventually get fibre.

cry.gif Very sad with unifi 100Mbps contract penalty. Still got 18 months contract had to pay penalty if terminate even the owner had passed away recently. So the relatives had to continue paying for the unused service or kena penalty if terminate. The only option left is to find someone to continue the contract by change of ownership.

TM don't have any sense of compassionate at all. Makan kaw kaw.  rclxub.gif

Hi all, I have been reading on mesh wifi but still confuse. When I buy a mesh wifi set (with 2 or 3 units), do I need to connect these to my TM router? Or do 1 of the unit become a new router, and I can throw away my TM router?
*
Both setup will work.

In Router mode: Ditch out TM provided router, use mesh one as main router, you'll loose extra ports as mesh router normally comes with 2 ports only.

In Access Point mode: Connect mesh to one of TM provided router's port. Still can use HyppTV and other ports (for wired connectivity).

Thanks for the explaination. So many config options to consider.

Just thinking is Access Point mode slower or less reliable than Router mode? Because in Access Point mode, the router used is still the crap TM one. Only good thing is can use multiple lan ports for hypptv, pc, etc
*
Access point mode not any slower, just need a good router to begin with. Ditch that crapy TM 'branded' one. You're good to go. thumbup.gif

First line - speed test using my Deco M4 mesh (upstairs)
2nd line - speed test using my main router (upstairs)
3rd line - speed test using my Deco M4 mest (downstairs)

Test location - living hall downstairs.
Deco M4 - Access point mode
I'm on UniFi 100mbps package.

Wow at the speed for the deco units. But why is main router speed (2nd line from top) much slower? Unless I am looking at the wrong line heheh

Also thinking if possible to use a cheap swicth to add more lan ports to the main mesh unit? Cheap switch
*
I was downstairs, connecting directly to my main router + wifi instead of Deco. FYI, my main router + wifi is on upstairs. My house was built as solid concrete slabs instead of normal bricks (the walls are solid concrete rclxub.gif ). Hence the slow wifi speed when I'm downstairs.

As for my usage scenario, Deco really serves the purpose. thumbup.gif

Yes you can connect the switch to lan port of mesh unit. In Deco's case, it's either internet or iptv. Not both.

My simple setup

Fibre -> Router + Wifi (any good router wifi as on page 1 will do)

Router + wifi port 1 -> Deco M4 -> TV (Netflix 4k no problem thumbsup.gif ), 4 IoTs, 4-5 hand phones, 3 notebooks, 1 desktop.
Router + wifi port 2 -> Server (NAS, personal web server, media server) + 2 virtual servers (IoT monitoring backend, my car GPS tracker backend)
Router + wifi port 3 -> Server (Syslog, LAN enabled UPS)
Router + wifi port 4 -> HyppTV

I just downgrade my plan from RM 189 ( 500mbps ) to RM 159 ( 100mbps ) because wanna have ultimate pack unifi tv and old plan already end contract. Speed downgrade doesnt matter for me because only me and wife use it.

My old plan 30mbps ( upgraded to 500mbps ) at RM 189 but the speed test never reach 60mbps download. That's why decided to change plan and renew contract for another 24 months because not thinking to switch other brand.
*
Exactly similar case as my package too. Was turboed to 300mbps. Can reach the advertised speed, but seriously underutilised. Last month, I change to RM159 package. I don't mind the contract because it's in my own house and the service hardly (near zero) had any issue / downtime since 2013, I'm among early UniFi subscriber.

Hi guys, my modem just went kaput i think. No lights from it, but it's heating up as if it's on. So, i made a report to 100. Said that the modem warranty is lifetime, but they need to charge rm53 for technician to come.

Call me crazy, but if it's a lifetime warranty, then why do i need to be charged to get a replacement? Can't i do that myself at any tmpoint service centers or something?

Thanks in advance guys.
*
Weird... my 'modem' kaput once... they change it for free. 100% free.

I even ask the technician to rebind my set top box (got 2nd hand unit to replace my first generation one) for free as well.

Okey, so i called them back just now. Now, another one of their support person told me that it kinds of depends on the technician's evaluation during the visit later on. And i quote, "kalau technician tu rasa yang masalah berpunca dari tm, takde kena cas, tapi.kalau dia rasa datang dari pengguna, kena charge".

I'd like to think this is the more amicable solution, instead of just charging me rm53 for a visit, which is bullcrap to be frank. What do you mean by "rebind" by the way?
*
HyppTV set top box is 'locked' based on MAC address. So, if you want to change to new unit, you need them to bind new MAC address to your account. I'm just using the term rebind - used by TM technician. Don't know correct term. May be he use the term as layman term to user. sweat.gif

Out of curiosity, is there any router only (no WiFi) that can be use with UniFi service (internet & HyppTV)? Replacing the given UniFi WiFi router. hmm.gif

Deco line up support HyppTV out of the box. But it lacks ports. FYI, I use Deco M4. Tested, HyppTV works.

i did ask about this, my installer said, all new fiber installation direct use fiber drop cable from pole to modem.
the old type installation with the FWS seems getting some problem after some times.. getting higher 'noise' signal quality.  unsure.gif

To eliminate / reduce the problem of dirty connector in client premise. It's a fibre connection. Not copper. The ends must be as clean as possible.

So i had tried 2 way to connect output lan rj45 cable from tplink Archer C1200.

tplink Archer C1200 LAN port----cat5 2 meters lan cable----dlink 4-port switch----generic white color 15 meters lan cable---desktop pc.
tplink Archer C1200 LAN port----cat5 2 meters lan cable----dlink 4-port switch----3.3 meters lan cable----desktop pc.

Im signup 30M unifi package.tm speed test site show download=34M  ,  upload=10M  when used wifi pci card. dlink 4-port switch used because 15 meters lan cable fixed and tie on the wall was not long enough connect to  tplink Archer C1200 lan port.

Here are the result:

First connect way---download speed=10M  ,  upload speed=10M  .

Second connect way---download speed=33.5M , upload speed =10M  .

The culprit was the generic white color 15 meters lan cable caused download speed drop to 10M....lost 24M download speed.Found only 4 small core wires inside the lan port head.Others lan cable got 8 small core wires inside the lan port head.

I need 17 meters length lan cable. I want cat.6 cable.
My question is....if i buy quality 20 meters cat.6 lan cable , will it cause download speed drop again ?
*
Shouldn't be. Cat 6 should be good for 1gb for 100m. A good real Cat 6 cable of course.

From my TM member, the good news is these DECO M4 can be used as router or as repeater
The bad news is it does not have VLAN tagging. Thus, you need to let go HyppTV STB if you set is as router.  doh.gif
*
FYI, latest firmware comes with proper UniFi vlan tagging for HyppTv. Tested - it work but you'll lose extra port. Deco M4 only come with 2 ports.

BTU -> Deco M4 (Router Mode) -> HyppTV box

Great news rclxms.gif
Seems like you guys are more expert than the TM staff laugh.gif

So if I configure it as AP as below, can the M4 transfer both HyppTV and Internet from upstair to downstair?

BTU > TM Router > Deco M4 (Upstairs) > Deco M4 (downstair) > HyppTV Box > TV
*
Some of user here is certified in networking. CCNA, CCNP, Juniper, Mikrotik, etc. biggrin.gif

Maybe possible if you get rid of TM Router. Use Deco M4 as main router and properly set iptv vlan tagging. Not so sure, haven't try this setup before.

BTU -> Deco M4 (upstairs) >>> Deco M4 (downstairs) -> HyppTV Box

-> Wired
>>> wireless
