question about Japanese tourist visa:

if I enter on the 30th March, then I'll get a visa stamp on my passport on the 28th June (90 days).

if during this period, I exit Japan, say 15th April, and enter 30th April, will I get a new visa stamp 30th April + 90days?
Or they will continue from that old visa stamp?

New one. 30th April + 90 days.

For instant bento sets, you can easily get them at any Family Mart, Lawson, 7i /7Eleven convenience stores, and many shopping malls like AEON have supermarket section that sells them. Prices & choices available may vary from each of them around 400~550 yen, but AFAIK only those in supermarkets have late nite discounts and this can be a battlezone. I saw someone quickly grabbing a bento set marked down 40% before i could reach it. Haha.

As for diapers, your asking if Japan cheaper than here, I don't think so. Good thing is, you have hand carry baggage to Japan so use it to carry diaper supplies and run them down so you can return with carry on baggage of goodies.

It's OK, I will be at Arashiyama whole day, so makes sense to have dinner there.
I will be at Gion too but afraid I won't have enough time to cover Gion and the neighbouring areas.

OK, thanks. smile.gif

MR_alien, the restaurant you recommended also needs reservation. smile.gif Whether if these restaurants are good or not, it depends on individuals but if people are willing to queue for hours, I guess they are good? laugh.gif And the one I'm going doesn't serve kids below 6 years old which is a good thing for us. laugh.gif

i don't think it differs through season
all supermarket or the one under takashiyama will start slash price around 5-6PM because they close very early
it depends how late the shop closes really

when i was in tokyo, the food hall under the odakyu department store at shinjuku station closed at 6PM
so around 5PM, they start to slash price already and tons of japanese workers go there to grab their dinner
by 6PM, the gate is closed

at the sticker in front, it said the unagi is made 8AM
it's 12 hours...and i left it until next morning to microwave to eat...so i don't think is fresh anymore
but for 200 yen...its darn cheap

travelling to japan can be cheap if u know what to do or where to buy to settle your bfast

Alright thanks for the tip. If I need a quick, hot meal I usually go to those small restaurants with the ordering machine in front where you order and pay first before passing the coupon to the waiter. That will usually costs at least 600 to 700 yen minimum depending on what you order. I guess 200 yen for a unagi bento is really a steal. laugh.gif

Getting super cheap bentos are more on luck. Don't hope to get it at the price you want, with the varieties you want, on an everyday basis. AFAIK only supermarket bentos have deep discounts and often you have to battle with the locals to get some. Don't plan ur daily meal budgets around 200yen or you'll quickly run out of cash.

Temples ARE NOT free in Kyoto. Most require an admission fee to enter the buildings or gardens.
Shinto shrines on the other hand are mostly free.

If you are trying to tekan your budget, why not just stay in one region? Kansai - Tokyo return is not budget conscious.

Japan food are actually surprising affordable (weak ringgit made it feel expensive), what is the best is that most of the food photos and food models are not for illustration purposes, THEY ARE REAL in portion, well maybe except some fast food chain like McD (still better than here), and of course MOS Burger are still very fulfilling.

Even if we not good at their languages, we can just point at the menu and say: kore kudasai

These are the Bentos from family mart website, they all look exactly the same when we went there

user posted image

We also love the katsu sandwiches there whether to be in conbini or at the other famous shop, at first we thought egg and katsu sandwiches for 300 yen (RM12) is freaking expensive, but we fell in love with it once we took a bite, their fillings are fulfilling, not like the sandwiches we saw here, front look nice but back side of sandwiches are empty.

Matsuya Gyudon, I am not sure if I am being health conscious as I feel their food too salty.

user posted image

Those were just my opinion and cheap eatery that I like, I do enjoy all range of food when I went there, from 100 yen per plate of sushi to OMAKASE courses that cost like almost 10000 yen per meal.

Now we also aware that tax has been increased to 10% that not affect on food but affect when you dine-in, if you take away then it is still 8%. When I heard this, I was like is Japan government do this to encourage more rubbish as when take-out the food requires more plastic containers and cutlery compare to dine-in.

In Japan, it is still very hard to find Muslim-friendly food, I did saw some girls with Hijab went into Yoshinoya in Haneda Airport ordered gyudon, but at the same time Yoshinoya there do provide buta-don (pork rice), and they just eat there cheerfully, and many food like snacks in Japan do contain Gelatin that Muslim can't take (got Pork DNA). I am not Muslim, I just have some Muslim friend and they told me this.

Well at least ANA flight that fly from KL or to KL are providing Muslim-friendly food on plane, alcoholic beverage also provided upon request.
