I think the 5 devices to run on unifi playTV is applicable only for Unifi Home 300mbps - RM199/mth.

The rest still can use up to 2 devices only.

Well, it's seems they going to depreciate the vlan600 which is dedicated line for TV streaming.

Internet speed will be affected sooner in future.
*
yes, i think u will be right.... seems they wanna get out of this vlan thingy and go like netflix.

but when will they catch up doing 12, 15, 18 mbps bit rate?

if stuck with 2, 4 mbps bit rate, that's a shame... nobody will bother to watch anything! tongue.gif

5 Mbps 1080p streams is the standard used by Youtube, iTunes & maybe other OTT providers. No surprise TM going same way. Most people are OK with that. Even my wife says 4K looks no different lol

Too bad for us who want better quality, Blu-Ray discs or Blu-Ray rips is still the only way. Just like DSLRs vs smartphones. The next best thing IMO is Apple TV 4K streaming at 25 Mbps.

My white STB still running, so I'll stick to it, and use PlayTV app on the go.

List of channels available on STBs (excluding new black STB) as at today:

Compared with new playTV (com.tm.playtv) app... only channels 110, 603, 641, 956 and 957 are not available via the app.

Can you check the bitrate of the Love Nature channel when watching on new black STB? Because here I see that this channel is clear 1080i on white STB on Unifi but is blurry and only 977kbps on the playTV (com.tm.playtv) app on my phone. Even SD channels are supposed to be 1.9Mbps on phone app while HD channels should be 4.8Mbps.
*
Not so sure about bitrate but on the New Black STB, I've tried changing the display resolution to 4k2k-50hz (3840x2160/50p) but it still blurry (Love Nature channel 502 which supposedly support 4k). I even change it to it's optimal resolution which is 4k2k-60hz (3840x2160/60p) but still blurry. Now I compare with Youtube 4k quality video and the difference is like night and day. Heck, I even change back to the White STB with 1080i-50hz (1920x1080/50i) and it still clearer compare to the 4k quality. It could be the upscaling but dunno. Maybe my configuration is wrong or my TV or maybe TM have yet to optimise the 4k setting but it is quite dissapointing. Hopefully more updates to fix this issue. dry.gif

My SIL bought 4k TV but use RCA cable to connect to astro. My eye bleed so much I straight away go to the nearest mrDiY an buy hdmi cable for her. Cheap HDMI also can as long as not RCA

somebody else reported same thing in the unifi main thread.

If the new STB / Android TV app (com.tm.unifitv) is indeed using the same video stream as the new playTV (com.tm.playtv) app, then there is no 4K for Love Nature. In fact there is not even HD... Not even proper SD... It's just 977kbps. So even SD channels will look better than it and of course the old white or silver STB will look way better since Love Nature is proper 1080i quality there.

In this case there is no need for me to bother about the new STB or Android TV app. Just continue to use the white STB on VLAN600 with the new interface and proper 1080i quality.

TM likely won't phase out the VLAN anytime soon since all white and silver STBs use it on Unifi and they even bother to redesign the UI.

Get white STB from elsewhere won't be usable on Unifi. Need the IPTV login and password (not the playTV one) as well as register STB MAC address in TM system.

When used on Unifi, all the silver and white STBs use the same account and VLAN, have the same video quality and have channel numbers. The new black STB is the only different one.

That's great! It's better stay at dedicated vlan to separate the network. For me I'll stay at these version.

I can sign in to com.tm.playtv since December. Before that I get the not migrated message as well. My white box has changed to new interface for quite some time now. The box is still using same old customized Android 4.x. There is no migrating to new ATV OS. The only change is launcher, UI and Netflix pre installed but not launchable.

So now with new STB we can sign in to 5 devices and the STB is also counted together with the other playTV devices? I haven't sign in on more devices after 15 Jan.

Update: Just tested by signing in to web. Still shows 2 devices. Is the new STB / Android TV app actually counted together with other playTV devices?
Update2: I can sign in new app (com.tm.playtv) and STB changed to new interface around early December. The new app was released on 19 November.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Jan 19 2020, 05:01 PM)
Right... white box is android4.4.2, i think.

But if it did not migrate to ATV os, the app should be 1.2.10 regular android rather than 1.1.4 ATV, no?

Or u already checked, it is 1.1.4? If so, it must be some customized version.

Previously, besides stb, u can use 2 other devices for playtv app.

I hv not read anywhere that after migratoin u can now do 5 other devices total.... maybe that applies to new subscribers and those paying +rm10 only...?

Sorry guys, I thought we are talking about the newly launch Plus Box (Black colour).
After TM installed the Plus Box, your account will be migrated to use on this new box.
Your migrated account can use on 5 devices.

The new Unifi TV box seems to support multi-room usage due to its WiFI only support up to 5 boxes if you want (HyppTV app limitation using the same account) and no longer needs separate VLAN setting (no wired LAN anymore). In this setup, you need a better performing WIFI router to handle the total bandwidth.

It seems the UI when watching TV is upgraded server-side independent of the system update though. The laggy inside UI didn't change together with the launcher UI when system update happen. Both changed on different day.
