Hi SilentVampire,

Thanks for your recommendation for the C2300.

However, since we can get a D-Link DIR-882 from Time for only RM550 and free installation, should I get this DIR-882 instead of the C2300?

In your list of compatible routers, you have listed the D-Link DIR-882 can achieve up to 800mbps but the product features in Time selfcare only shows "Achievable speeds of up to 500Mbps over WiFi". (please refer to attachment).

What is your take on this bro?

Sorry for asking noob questions as I just want to make sure I am making the right decision before pulling the trigger.

Thanks in advance

I did state that it can achieve up to 800Mbps, but that is only in very optimal conditions.. I think I have a disclaimer at the bottom of the post lol. 500Mbps seem to be more likely, in real-life.

Honestly, the C2300 is better than the DIR-882 and it has better hardware specs, but it only has 3x3 MIMO compared to DIR-882 which has 4x4 MIMO, so it is ultimately up to you.

Most routers have Gigabit ports. Only cheap models doesn't have gigabit ports.
How many devices connected on LAN?
Thanks.
*
Most routers have Gigabit ports, yes, but whether the hardware inside the router can cope with the demands is another thing.

Five. A work PC, a laptop, a file server, an Android box and a smart TV, spread across three rooms via a Homeplug network currently, but a Cat 6 LAN will be put in within the next few months because I will be travelling overseas less and working from home. Which is why I am asking about an optimum router since I want the main one connected to the BTU/modem to be able to service the entire network through a switch.

OK. I got it.

Since your budget is RM 700 only.
You may get the AC2300 as SilentVampire mentioned that it is better than D-Link DIR-882

Or you can top up to get the AC5400X.

Thanks.

It is a 4X4 device. Maximum speed with your typical phones and laptops with 2 antennas is still 867Mbps. After degradation and interference, it is around 500Mbps. smile.gif

1.6K bro. So only AC2300 is the only choice.
AC3150 from TP-Link discontinued and D-Link 3200 is over budget for him. RM 100 extra.

AC5400 is worse than AC5400X.
AC5400X is going to replace AC5400.

Thanks.

Today you post so many wrong info....

AC3150 is not discontinued ,
just out of stock. Stock is coming another week or two (probably with increased price).
AC5400X is gaming router with better spec, its doesnt mean AC5400 is bad.

Also C7 v.5 on 500Mbps plan will do job.

or wait for upcoming AC2700.

Edit:
If he need to top up RM700...better choice is Asus Blue Cave.

Test with LAN cable Cat5e and above.
Yup, wifi can get only 200-300 on 5GHz.

Restart router and be sure you have latest TIME firmware (1.0.0 Build 20180502 rel.45702) upgraded (do not upgrade firmware thru router !).

Hi,
This is my current setup

TP Link Archer C9
TP Link Powerline AV1300 Wifi Kit (TL-WPA8630P)
Ethernet Cable : CAT 5E on from Modem to Router, Router to PowerLine and Powerline to Desktop PC.

Time Broadband Plan - 500 MB.
Currently I have 4 WiFi, and the current result tested as below:

TP Link Archer C9 - 2G Wifi
Download: 25 MB Upload: 25 MB
TP Link Archer C9 - 5G Wifi
Download: 30 MB Upload: 25 MB
TP Link Archer C9 - Cable (Direct)
Not tested.

PowerLine - 2G Wifi
Download: 85MB Upload: 80MB
PowerLine - 5G Wifi
Download: 188MB Upload: 180MB
PowerLine - Cable
Download: 185MB Upload: 160MB

It seems that the wifi results on Archer C9 are very low comparing to Powerline, although the router is just beside me. I can't make a direct connection to Archer C9 as my router is located on top of my doorstep.

I am aware that WiFi is slower than Cable.

I am wondering what went wrong on my wifi settings on Archer C9?

Not I say that AC3150 is discontinued.
A friend of mine who is a reseller of TP-Link told me that AC2300 replaces AC3150.

Also the AC5400X. AC5400X is using 1GB RAM while AC5400 is using 512MB RAM.

For the AC2700. Got a lot of differences from AC2600?

Archer C9 can consider. OOKAS selling latest version which is V5.1

Thanks

What?!

No such thing as that.
Even Core i5 also can achieve.
This is not about the processor things.
Is it using the latest firmware?
Try to perform direct connection to ONU and test.

Thanks.
