like that if one switch from u mobile fibre bb to time bb, can still

1) use the time bb given wifi router to function as bridge mode

2) reuse the existing huawei ONR by u mobile fibre bb to work like a wifi router only

then ok le... it can work this way... tongue.gif
*
you try can you buy ONR BY U mobile fibre bb to connect time bb testing working or not working

just.. dont bother

stay on your u mobile fiber
time isnt going to pay your penalty

no, you're not going to be able to get out of getting a contract/paying a no contract fee with time by saying you dont need their hardware and to reuse umobile hardware

on paper, the huawei hardware is compatible, but your authentication details like username, password, vlans, ploam password, mac address, serial number.
stuff like that needs to be registered with their system and they wont let you register your own stuff

prob is time bb uses ONR device (all-in-one modem + wifi router) else it will be easier.

maxis or unifi all uses separate modem which the modem they always provide and with lifetime warranty, u just need to use ur own wifi router to connect to it to setup ur own wifi.

anyway, time bb now has no advantage comparing to maxis or unifi anymore.
for maxis, unifi, new users can get very attractive deal such as 6 months free subscription etc... or port from existing ISPs to another.
even for existing unifi users, they offer SWU offer which makes the subscription fee very attractive.

time bb new sign up at most 1 month free subscription for 2 years contract. or discounted price for 600Mbps plan for 1st 6 months but never as good as 6 months free like maxis or unifi for new users.
and last time their termination fee is no matter when u terminate is rm500 one time fee.. now also same like unifi - charge full remaining months of subscription = as good as no termination. so no advantage also liao.

u mobile bb only advantage is they their starting price at rm79 for 100Mbps, but price will be revised after 2 years to rm89.
for such price, might as well just add rm10 to get the 200Mbps under time bb.
and if u read the tnc of u mobile bb, very restrictive, cannot relocate the service to another location, if u move house, u need to terminate and pay the early termination fee in full which is equivalent to full remaining months of subscription which is as good as no termination.

i dun think the ONR by u mobile will work with time bb as mentioned above.

The setup i was referring is
ONR by time bb (bridge mode) - ONR by u mobile (function like wifi router)

this could potentially work.

my time bb is expiring on 14 dec 2025. i will have no more contract after that which is good for me becos i am renting apartment now which maintaining contract free will be good.

i already contacted time bb CS before, and confirmed that I can change to no contract option for 200Mbps after that which i prefer - cheaper subscription. now rm139 600Mbps is totally over-killed for me. only 2 person using the bb at all time.

My impression is Time BB is more stable in term of network. And also Umobile Fibre now still cannot auto debit from my credit card. sad.gif

Is Unifi/Maxis fibre now is as stable as Time BB? last time often heard high latency in Unifi/Maxis and also a lot of downtime.

i was using unifi for the past 8 years (landed) before i switch to time bb (apartment).

unifi has not been giving me much prob. downtime wise is minimum, maybe at most once in 1 to 2 years. but they rectify quite fast so not an issue.

speed and latency wise i have no prob, i mainly face prob for my own wifi connection due to the coverage and signal only which to be fair, not unifi prob.

their CS is not bad also.

time bb to me is ok, speed, latency wise is reasonable, but i do notice the speed sometimes particularly during peek hours when more ppl will be at home, i can notice that i cannot hit the maximum speed as per my plan and the latency sometime can varies.
time bb CS to me is ok, helpful and efficient, no issue.

ur house got unifi coverage? if yes, u might as well go for unifi.
u mobile bb i never use before, but their mobile service in terms of coverage and speed to me is vomiting blood.
u mobile bb is using time infra anymore, it can never be better than the host i am sure.
for ur info, even maxis is using unifi infra, and under the same plan, u will get like 10% lesser speed than the unifi users if u are using maxis also...
always use the host service only and come to troubleshooting will be easier as well. no need to involve the host.

My house under both Time and Unifi BB coverage. Let me think about it first.

Actually Umobile BB to me ain't that bad, the speed is ok-ish and stable. But then it is small little gritty that irked me, such as no auto debit then got 1 month simply charged me extra RM 32.42 in november with the charging description "Charging/Rating Issue", which I got no idea what it is.

I lodged a report to them which they admitted it is their error and need to further investigate, but until now still awaiting news from relevant department.

That's why I wanted to change to other provider.

if u are happy with the existing service, just stick to it then. tongue.gif

ultimately, if u change service, another 2 years contract to go, and service quality is uncertain.

payment sounds to me is not a big prob anyway that can be fixed and workarounds can be found also.

I see. I remember Time will help me to pay for the penalty fee if I opted for their Fibre broadband?
Under easy switch arrangement, only max of RM500 will b rebated into yr monthly bill progressively, applicable to 600Mbps plan & above.
Then I got no problem opting for contract, since I intended to stay with Time for long period of time.

4k streaming uses about 25Mbps at max

For gaming, latency is much more important

fb/insta isn't heavy

Hi, how I wish I could help, but I'm in Penang. I can give you some ideas what to look at... before this how did your contractor relocate the fiber port ?
Do check for any bending on the cable, splicing point (if any) & the fast connector as well...
You may text me for more details.

Thanks.

Hi, sorry for the very late reply but thank you nonetheless for reaching out to help. biggrin.gif

I did managed to find a network contractor to solve the issue. There was bending on the cable where it came out from the wall, guess my general contractor wasn't aware that fiber cables cannot bend too much (I also didn't know until this happened sweat.gif ).

To avoid having to hack the wall, he spliced the cable at the riser box outside and tried to straighten as much as possible the cable inside my house. Managed to get a reading of- 23.5dB after that.

So I'm using an old Time Huawei HG8145V5 and when I first got it back in 2021 I tried to configure it at router level so that it will use OpenDNS but the router didn't seem to allow it.

Fine, I'll just do it at network adapter level instead and I was baffled when it still redirected to Time's own DNS servers. My understanding was that the network adapter settings should override the router settings. I eventually got around this by enabling DNS over HTTPS in my browser.

After researching again today I found out that this model HG8145V5 hijacks DNS queries on port 53, which I think explains why it was behaving like this.

If I get a new router and set my HG8145V5 to bridge mode so that it functions as ONT only, this will resolve the DNS hijacking right? As my understanding is that the router part is the one handling DNS configuration?

I'm planning to get a Deco X50 to create mesh for my new condo (layout is long rectangle, too many walls so I doubt something like Archer AX73 is gonna cut it).

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that old one does hijack. DNS settings are greyed out right? I've heard you can ask TIME CS to change for you.

otherwise, asking them to change to bridge mode and attaching your own router should work too
