Currently using bundled WiFi router from CelcomDigi. Staying in a semi-d, the corners all have signal dropping. Using a TP-Link repeater and it is a hit and miss. I'm thinking of Archer A73 or Asus AX4200 to replace the current WiFi router. Only 3-4 devices with no gaming requirement, mostly work and YouTube.

Since you are already staying in a Semi-D, do yourself a favor and get yourself one of those higher end mesh WiFi system that's more than RM1.5K

Those cheaper system just doesn't cut it for this scenario

Hi Sifus,

I want to request a recommendation on routers. Here are the criteria below:

House type: Condo
Size of house: 1,500sqft
Features required: N/A
Number of devices connected to WiFi: 15
Internet Speed: TIME 600Mbps
Budget:RM1k (For 2 routers, one at master bedroom and one at storeroom/yard area)
Additional Info: I've signed up TIME broadband and want to have full house coverage. TIME agent said the package include Huawei HG8145B7N (BE3600 wifi 7 router). I thinking to buy TP-Link Archer BE230 (wifi 7 BE3600 router)to extend the coverage wirelessly. I'm not an IT person, so wants to know whether can both device works well?

If yes, is the setup easy to do it myself? Or its better to get an IT guy to do it?

If i need to get an IT guy to do the setup, any recommendation? Segambut KL area

Thank you very much!

Get a XT-8 as main unit, move the AX56U as satellite unit. XT8 will give gigabit speed, and AX56U doesn't but the coverage is there.  wink.gif

Thank you for the recommendation. However I've read a lot that the XT8 has its own set of problems. It's either good or terrible depending on users). Just worried if this would be the best to go ahead with. Are there any other recommendations? Is it also wise to go with wi-fi 7?

I live in two storey semi-D house too. I bought Asus last time because during that time Asus was able to do mesh with different Asus router model, no need to buy one set of Mesh router at once, offered by other brand. That way I can add router later when needed.

I bought the Asus GT-AC5300 and place it in living hall. I tested the speed that my phone can established in far corner of a room with door closed and I still get 200Mbps. So, still using it until now and never need another router for mesh setup laugh.gif

I have been using the XT8 (v1, not the current v2) and it has been serving me well over the years. wink.gif
WiFi 7 is expensive and has it's own compatibility issue with old devices when new features are enabled. sweat.gif Unless you go for the BE86U or above, better off stick to high end WiFi 6/e unit.

Thank you for the advise! What's the difference between v1 and v2 of XT8?

v1 - BCM6755
v2 - BCM6756

BCM6755 supports 576Mbps @ 2.4GHz + 1.2Gbps @ 5GHz
BCM6756 supports 576Mbps @ 2.4GHz + 2.4Gbps @ 5GHz/6GHz (pick one)
The 4.8Gbps @ 5GHz is the same on both, externally connected to the SoC.

As for ASUS side, they apparently chose to split into different products
- 1.2Gbps@5GHz for XT8 (They chose to use only FEM that supports 80MHz, handicapping the SoC)
- 2.4Gbps@5GHz for XT9

ET8 and ET9 are the same, but run the 4.8Gbps lane at 6GHz.

CPU speed is bumped to 1.7GHz and they used a newer 5GHz radio chipset for 5Ghz-2

XT8 V1 - BCM43684
XT8 V2 - BCM6715

Realistically the XT8 V2 backhaul can be up to 150Mbps faster which provide faster performance at node if wireless backhaul is used.

Overall it's great hardware, super stable and rock solid at this point.

Hiya folks. Recently, I went ahead and bought myself TP-Link NX200 5G Wifi router after I tested out YES 5G network at my place via free eSIM on my iPhone 13 mini. Truly a nice plug and play experience when I tried the router using my existing Maxis nano SIM then YES 5G nano SIM (the Broadband Flexi plan).

user posted image Speedtest result using YES via wifi.

Now, one problem - I couldn’t get my adguard DNS to work. Rather, I don’t know how to set up custom DNS at router level. Kindly please advise, thank you.

Please help with MESH setup.

Using Asus TUF-AX6000 in the living room, I'm able to get at least 1.5 Gbps and above around the same area. However, as soon as I go upstairs, I'm getting only about 300+ Mbps, in the master bedroom, just right above the living room where the router is.

So, I'm thinking of buying another router to set it up as MESH. Read around and saw articles that a dual-band MESH will cut the speed by half unless it is a tri-band router. Is this true? What are the recommendations? And, can I mix and match with a WIFI 7 router?

If you want to get 1.5Gbps upstairs over wireless backhaul, prepare to spend for those Tri-Band WiFi 7 models

Roughly what is the improvement if I’m getting another router to pair with my AX6000 at upstairs?

If another dual-band pairing with my existing router not helping, what is the recommended router you have in mind?

If you get a GT-AX11000 Pro and put it upstairs, you might, notice the keyword "might" get 700-800Mbps.

Entire house with that speed.. that would need mesh. Do you mind to have wired setup?
