need suggestion, 2 storey house with modem/router at second floor, have a wired connection to ground floor. Currently 500mbps but waiting for free unifi upgrade.

Plan to upgrade to mesh wifi 6, what recommendations for budget below 1k or a bit more? must at least have 2 lan ports at satellite unit for me to hook up my switch at ground floor

I would go for Mikrotik RB750Gr3 (hAP ac2 for a bit more routing power) and Deco X20 2 or more units. Should be less than your budget.

For 500mbps, which tp link mesh system can replace deco m4 x2?

1. 2x archer AX55
2. 2x Deco X50 (because this model rare for 3 ports)
3. 2x Deco X68
4. 2x Deco XE75

I just want basic 500mbps in main deco unit only and anything about second node I don't care much anyway

Unfortunately, it's the same. I still get around 330Mbps max only sad.gif

Looks like need wifi 6 router to get maximum speed?

I'm using AC88U for Unifi 300Mbps with upgrade to 500Mbps, can get 450~500Mbps. AC86U has faster CPU, shouldn't have lower speed.

Check if the QoS is enable, Qos will disable hardware acceleration and speed will drop to 3xxMbps.

After setting up the TUF-AX4200, found out that the WiFi still not good at second floor back of the house. Which previously using a repeater for this issue. So plan to do the same with Asus repeater that support aimesh, but may I ask whether Asus did bring in RP AX-56 into Malaysia? Can't really find it in shopee or Lazada. Only the old RP AC-55 available.

Just get another router and use it on second floor

Don't think ASUS will introduce extenders in local market anytime soon

RT-AX86U PRO is much better than TUF-AX4200

TUF-AX4200 is just good for the price point, there are still better products in ASUS lineup

The TUF-AX6000 comes with 2x 2.5G ports which the TUF-AX4200 lacks

I think AX86U is EoL, replaced by AX86U Pro with some upgrade like better CPU.
But if you an get a used AX86U for, say, less than RM750, it would be more than enough for 1Gbps. It had no problem doing >950Mbps up/down for wired and ~900Mbps up/down for wireless. Tested it myself, able to cover 120sqm/1300sqf in my HDB flat in SG. This is my post in HWZ

To see if the default Asia region Tx power of AX86U can cover my 120sqm flat.

Disclaimer: not scientific, router is placed in bedroom 3 as image, on a ~1.6m high shelf. AX86U is  on AP mode connected to GT-AX6000 main router. Blue dots are testing spots. Test device is Honor Magic4 Pro Wifi6 Ch48@160Mhz.

Yes but what’s your reasoning if I may ask ?

The difference between ax86u and tuf 4200, is just the cpu 1.8 vs 2.0 ghz right ?

And during 11/11 the tuf 4200 can be cheaper too.

I did find a used ax86u for rm450-500

hi all,

is it possible to use different settings for my 2nd mesh router (located on 2nd floor)?

whenever i tried to access the router default IP it's the same as the main router (ground floor).

previously i use two routers but set as AP upstairs. Now using mesh routers for the seamless connectivity

Reason to use different settings is i usually just enable 5g on 2nd floor, and both bands on ground floor (cctv still using 2.4ghz only). Also like to set some auto turn off settings for my 2nd router as well. just some personal preference i practice

The TUF-AX4200 actually has faster clock speed of 2GHz--Mediatek MT7986AV, vs AX86U 1.8GHz--Broadcom BCM4908, but since they are from different company, direct comparison is not possible. Both are fast enough for the task. That said, Broadcom is generally more stable base of pass experience of Linksys EA7500 vs Asus AC68U, both in wireless and ethernet connection. AX86U is supported by AsusMerlin firmware, you can have more features with this 3rd party but regconized by Asus.

AX4200 is 2.4GHz 2×2--574Mbps, 5GHz 3×3--3603Mbps, total 4177Mbps or 4200 Class; AX86U is 2.4GHz 3x3--861 Mbps, 5GHz 4x4--4804Mbps, total 5665Mbps or 5700 class. AX86U also offer 1 extra WAN/LAN gbps port and double the RAM size of 1GB than 512MB of AX4200, as with all smart devices, more RAM is always better.

Basically, the AX86U was a Hi-end model from Asus and still perform wonderfully today, AX4200 is their current mid range product. I can't say much about AX4200 since I don't own one and most details online reviews don't compare the 2 directly, maybe Blacktubi did, you may ask his/her opinion. Generally, wifi router can work for ages, my AC68U was bought in 2014 and its still working fine today. same goes to my AC88U that bought in 2016, also have a spare AC88U and AC68U, plus another 2x AX86U made in 2020 Dec.
