1. Look at 3's that are 5 years older on mudah/oto and you'll get the idea. Once a new model comes out they plummet.
2. Local BMW's have 5 year warranty, so hopefully the one you're eyeing was well maintained. Depends how it's been / being driven, RM250/month just for maintenance would be a safe budget for a normal driver
3. They're way less forgiving than Jap/local cars ... so if you see any warning lights get it taken care of asap.

How about the mileage record, is it possible to be modified?

Since you so badly needed it, just get it, no point asking bout depreciation of a used car and maintenance, everyone knows is definitely going to be more expensive than a Jap, research here and there can roughly give you a figure of how much it cost for replacing parts/servicing etc etc..

That also if you are confident that your 2nd and 3rd source of income won't screw up in the near future and assuming you have a big pile of cash in your bank

These are the questions.

1. How much would I lost from buying this after I sell it off after 5 years.

2. How much would cost me to maintain? (installment + maintenance)

3. Is it really that bad to buy a German continental car (used car) because I've seen so many bad review on it.
*
I think 9 or 10 years old 3 series maybe selling around RM50k. How much you loss depends on how much you bought.

To maintain if you save Rm1k per month means RM12k per year, should be ok. Just hope that no major damaged like gearbox, turbo or suspension. Installment is depends how much is your down payment and repayment period.

For me F30 is reliable car, just that you need to prepare for the worst case scenario. Which you might need to fork out RM10k for some major breakdown if it really happen.

I actually did some research on owning a 3 series before I settled down on a new CX-5 instead.

The main thing I found out is that you'll spend mostly on the repairing and maintenance. You'll need some knowledge on where to source the parts and where to fix it. If you are the type that goes back to service center and have no clue if there's any issue on the car, then it'll be very costly to maintain.

Basic wear and tear parts like engine oil, brake pads, tyres and etc will be costlier than non-conti cars but it's the least worry part since those should be no problem with your income. The worrisome part is when the major parts broke down.

I am the latter type so I settled with a Japanese car since it's new and easier and lower cost to maintain.

He said he has rm50k FD in the bank. If he used some of that for 10% DP for a rm140k car and some paperwork fees, then maybe less rm15k, so left around rm35k? Then maybe initial repairs and maintenance needs around rm2-4k? So roughly down to around rm30+k maybe, is that a big pile of cash?

This is a similar topic like the previous one,

Can I afford a BMW f30 with my current income?
https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=3742661

I used to drive a F30 328. Buying a new BMW is not a big problem. Nowadays, the price already included the scheduled maintenance and the warranty is 4 years.

Before buying it, do a through research:
a) F30 328i has 18" RFT, each piece is around 1k. Every 40k - 50k kilometers, you have to change - that is provided you constantly do the tyre rotations and alignment (every 10k)
b) Brake pad, brake discs and sensors. Easily 2k for one pair. Every 50k kilometers (and of course depends on your driving habits), you will need to change 2 pairs.
c) Servicing. To make sure the engine is in good conditions, usually professional workshop will use engine flush, pouring in new lubricants to flow though before filling up the lubricants. So, even it is 2l engine, most of the time, the workshop charges you 6l of lubricants. Price? RM 500 - RM 600 is a norm - that was the price I paid two years ago.
d) BMW has a lot of electronics and most of these components will not last long.
e) Continental cars are comfortable and nice to drive. But, a lot of parts, e.g. suspension, shocks & struts, all have lifespan of 5 years. And, it cost a lot of money to change.

If you are the supporter of YOLO (you only live once), then, just buy and don't ask. After all, if it is a mistake, you are still young and i guess you should be able to learn and move forward.

But if I don't do it when I'm young, and capable to seek for more money, then I might missed this in my life.

Slowly having more commitments, and probably will not have a chance to get these experience.

That's exactly what I did when I was 22, loan myself a big bike, buy a brand new iphone just so I can have fun with my life. Little did I know, my desire is about to change. I dont like the bike anymore, but I still have some more years before I can finish my loan. I have to pay for its servicing, spare parts, insurance, etc and holy molly they're super expensive especially for something that I dont like anymore. A new iphone comes months after that, then I realize i dont have the latest iphone.. i just wasted money buying it.. all these nonsense mindset comes to me because of buyers remorse.. then my new girlfriend comes along, i need money for her and travelling, etc.. im just wondering what if i dont spend that much money when I was 22.. could have save it for future..

Hello experts,

I am a 24 years old kid (Malaysian) and want to own a second hand BMW F30 328i M-sport so badly. I have 3 income sources, my main income is RM2,670 nett, and going to RM3,770 nett on next month.

Main income: RM3,770 /month (nett) (Fresh graduate income)
Second income: RM500-1000 /month (not consistent)
Third income: RM3,000 - 10,000 / month  (so far the highest, been having this for a year)

My expenses:
1. Food & petrol: RM2,000/ month
2. Rental: RM450 / month
3. Entertainment + GIRLFRIEND: RM1,000 / month
4. No insurance since my company is covering it for us as an employee.
5. 0 commitment. (Thanks to my parents for offering me a 10 years old VIOS).
6. 0 commitment since I bought an apartment unit and rent it out.

In average, I can save up RM3,000 - RM15,000 / month. (RM15,000 is the highest achievement so far, only hit once).
I want to have a second hand BMW F30 328i M-Sport 2014 yr, with price RM140K. loan with 7 yrs, and installment would be RM1,400 +-.

I need advise from all experts since I'm still young. The reason I don't want to buy a brand new 318i is because the depreciation value is high and I think it's not worth for me. What I know is the depreciate value is up to RM130K for 4 yrs old car. I'm saying 328i M-Sport.

My concerns:

1. How much would I lost from buying this after I sell it off after 5 years.

2. How much would cost me to maintain? (installment + maintenance)

3. Is it really that bad to buy a German continental car (used car) because I've seen so many bad review on it.

PLEASE TO ALL SIFU TO GIVE ME A PROPER ADVISE....

hi, if u are getting the bmw, i can help u get new original parts with much cheaper price biggrin.gif
personal experience, would suggest u getting the 320d M-Sport, far more reliable than the 320i or 328i N20 engine .

50k fd definitely not enough. Sigh. Kids nowadays.

I slowly upgrade from b to c to d segment sedan.

To TS, car is not everything. U can always bought bmw later. Make sure ur foundation which is bank account is strong. That 2nd, 3rd jobs income is uncertain for long term. Can u guarantee incone for long term 🤔

I really curious what TS drive now 🤔🤔

yeap, just change the circuit board or use rollback software. If it's a local BMW then at least you can cross check with maintenance booklet.

just sharing, when I was a freshie, those premium brands were super tempting when you have nothing else to spend on (family etc). Also with 9 year loan, anything below RM500k would be in reach laugh.gif Still remember A6 Hybird was ~RM300k which seemed like a super good deal at the time tongue.gif

Eventually I settled for a used murano @ RM40k (mainly for the keyless entry, at that price no other car had it back then). Was just a car to get me from A to B. Colleagues were getting new VW's , Civic's etc ... didn't make me exactly envious, but they looked like they had more $$ to spend !

Now 5 years later, glad I chose what I did. It's a dull drive, but at least it's reliable. No car loans (calculate how much a bank earns) and with what I saved I still have the option to get a better car. If I'd gotten something "nice" back then, I wouldn't be looking forward to new car launches anymore smile.gif

If your income can take it buy a brand new BMW 3 series with maintenance and servicing included for 5 years. After 5 years get rid of the car as parts will start to break down.

Your overall ownership cost for a new BMW will be more than a used one but the difference is not as much as you think after you factor in resale value, maintenance cost and bank interest rate which is higher for used cars.

The peace of mind for a new car with warranty is priceless while for a used car you will be praying as you drive that nothing major breaks down and wipe out your savings.

I feel pity on you. The way you think is like you're only having FD in your acc and nothing else left. Even u makan also need to take out your FD for the bill, and then send the money back to ur FD acc.

Wooopps.

2nd hand car and its on 7 years loan. You cant afford it yet. 50k fd is not a lot.

1. How much would I lost from buying this after I sell it off after 5 years.
W204 C250 bought in 2011 around 280k (can say almost the same as 328). Trade in for RM70k in May2018. For 2014 328i you can imagine yourself lah the value after 5 years.

2. How much would cost me to maintain? (installment + maintenance)

I still send to auto bavaria kl for service. Normal service around 1.6k. the RFT tyres costs 1k+ each if you want the same tyre. There's a cheaper option for tyre which is Bridgestone Turanza RFT.

3. Is it really that bad to buy a German continental car (used car) because I've seen so many bad review on it.

Not bad if you can afford to own a new one with 5 years warranty. Bought GLC in may. in n out of workshop few times. Now already in service center for a month+. They said theres a problem with ECU. The replacement cost is more than RM10k for the ecu and they also need to change the whole cable idk what cable which they need to order it from Mercedes Germany which also costs a lot and good thing that it is still under warranty. So you need to think again with your reserve money can you afford to pay the repair cost if something goes wrong.
