2nd hand car and its on 7 years loan. You cant afford it yet. 50k fd is not a lot.

1. How much would I lost from buying this after I sell it off after 5 years.
W204 C250 bought in 2011 around 280k (can say almost the same as 328). Trade in for RM70k in May2018. For 2014 328i you can imagine yourself lah the value after 5 years.

2. How much would cost me to maintain? (installment + maintenance)

I still send to auto bavaria kl for service. Normal service around 1.6k. the RFT tyres costs 1k+ each if you want the same tyre. There's a cheaper option for tyre which is Bridgestone Turanza RFT.
3. Is it really that bad to buy a German continental car (used car) because I've seen so many bad review on it.

Not bad if you can afford to own a new one with 5 years warranty. Bought GLC in may. in n out of workshop few times. Now already in service center for a month+. They said theres a problem with ECU. The replacement cost is more than RM10k for the ecu and they also need to change the whole cable idk what cable which they need to order it from Mercedes Germany which also costs a lot and good thing that it is still under warranty. So you need to think again with your reserve money can you afford to pay the repair cost if something goes wrong.

Yes. I did some math and found out that the depreciation value is even higher than changing all parts into the new one. Just want to get a rough figure so I could prepare for it. Thanks for your info. it's useful!!

no extra money better don't try boasting...you cant afford to pay for maintenance and repair later. i earn 2x-3x k per month and i am only driving a 3xxk and 2xxk japanese car and maintenance is not cheap. bought a bmw before that was the worst decision ever.crap car

you need RFT for that car. Theres no spare tyre. Thats why la you need to count in the cost for tyre replacement. Sure need to change either 2 pcs or 4 pcs. change 1 piece not balance.

yeap, just change the circuit board or use rollback software. If it's a local BMW then at least you can cross check with maintenance booklet.
One main advantage of the continental car is the on-board computer. It tracks the driving habits, service records/histories and life span of the parts. E.g. when to change the brake disc/pad, when to change the brake fluid, micro-filter, and etc. By modifying all these, that means have to track manually when to replace those items. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of owning a continental car?

Cars are just cars, even suspension will leak after 5 years. I used to own a 5 years old continental car. When I felt something was not right about the front suspension, I thought I could live with it. At the end, the suspension problem led to more problems, my struts, cross arm and bushing all needed to be changed. Comfort and performance drivings always come with cost. So, owning a BMW is not just about speed, but to keep it in good conditions.

Yes, I already expect that. Worse to worse, I'm ready to change all the necessary parts.

No die die larr. Need y'all to give precious advises.. still thinking whether it is the right decision.

Anyhow, thank you so much for your time..

So from experts opinions, y'all prefer the brand new one with 5 yrs warranty instead of having the second handed one.

yes. If i were you. I'd just use the car that your parents gave you. Just pay for petrol and maintenance. Maybe spend your money to repair that car and mod abit.

Seriously, by then, it is better for you to buy a new car with 4 years warranty and free oil change services. To replace all those parts, you have to spend about 20% of the value you paid for the car.

Btw, RFT is not a must for continental cars. I know some owners buy normal tyre and have repair kits and pumps with them. But, new BMW and new Mercedes are designed with RFT as integrated components. It means the suspension, car body, all have been tuned to run on RFT. You change to normal tyre, in short term, you don't see any difference. But, long term, you might feel the difference.

Furthermore, F30 is coming to the end of lifecycle. G20 is coming soon. Soon, there will be a lot of pre-owned units. Whenever there is a new model, depreciation will become worse. I bought my F30 328 in 2012 with fleet discount. It was around 290k. When I sold it 5 years later, it was merely 110k because of the facelift.

I feel pity on you. The way you think is like you're only having FD in your acc and nothing else left. Even u makan also need to take out your FD for the bill, and then send the money back to ur FD acc.

Wooopps.

Why pity me? If someday we meet in our business I'm 1000% certain you won't pity me! laugh.gif I just told exactly what you said what? Why feel offended?? Someone asked you how much cash balance you have in the bank and you only mentioned your FD of rm50k, right? So that's what we got from what you said, simple as that. If you have more then good for you lor, but don't blame us for not knowing coz we're not mind readers! Sigh... doh.gif

If you're in this forum long enough, you'll know this fellor has quite deep pockets but still tries to be wise in his spending.

People give you advise out of good will because you asked for it. But by observing your replies, clearly your understanding about cars are novice level, limited at best. You really need to learn about cars, and the best way is to start with the free vios that you are having now. Mistakes made on the vios won't be that painful and you can stomach it easily. Consider at "school fees", and i went through that with a vios after getting pissed off with a workshop i trusted very much that turned out to be quite a 2 face.

But if you got f'ed up by some workshop wanting to take advantage of you, asking for help then won't do much good. German cars are sophisticated in their driving, and so is their engineering. If don't have basic foundation on car related knowledge, you'll have a hard time thinking through so many whys. You're in a very good financial position at such young age, many more here don't have that sort of privilege at the start of adulthood. Don't trash it unwisely, but if you want to YOLO, then, just get it done with since there is no right or wrong of spending your own money. And of good things/karma/good luck/god bless, your dream car that you picked up may be a good durable unit that don't give you much trouble that you heard of.

Yes he could be, but at his age (should be 60s or 70s), EQ wise, he's poor. I don't need his sarcasms, so I'm just simply had fun of him. What I'm looking for is the advises not criticizes.

Thanks for yours too. At least it's something positive.

Hehehe, I'm certainly still pretty far from being that old but old enough to know how dumb and superficial kids nowadays are. I'm just emphasizing EXACTLY what YOU said, so if you don't like it, then next time think before acting up like some young hot shot. laugh.gif Anyway typical of people who started this kind of topics, if still asking like this then actually they cannot really afford it. People who can really afford it NEVER need to ask such things coz have enough confidence to just go ahead and buy whatever they want, that's the real mindset of people who got money. smile.gif
