Thanks for the review man. Did you try set your monitor to desktop mode? I've read that the other modes introduce the banding but not desktop.

lol at half a meter from the monitor. I'm usually mere inches from my monitor nowadays. Though that might be more to do with the fact that it's a fricking blurry mess!

Regarding you viewing HD stuff - what CPU are you running?

Oh really? I just tried. Desktop does minimize a bit. But if looking close its still there. /shrug.

Just using an AMD Athlon 3000+ 64bit but using 32bit WinXP.

Don't worry the tearing is not that obvious, I viewed Heroes 720p and it not noticeable all the time.

Mmm I don't think it's your CPU, I run 720 stuff I download from Gametrailers and anime on my lappy and I don't notice any tearing. Thought I haven't tried any HD live action, that might be different.

on a true h264 HD video, even a c2d will choked if it was clocked at lower freqs. Of course a builtin HD video decoding GC like 8500/2600xt would help a lot for those having lower end proc.

most of the downloaded series are downsampled of HDTV, they may have 720 vertical resolution, but they mostly are encoded using xvid/divx/mp4.

Tearing because of input lag instead of CPU load?

Could you link me? I looked under videos and Nvidia Demo but didn't find anything that had HD on it.

AFAIK, none of the above have 1:1 mapping..For sure, the Dell do not have it..
Yes, from what i have read thus far, 1:1 mapping allows you to automatically adjust non-widescreen into a normal viewing application with 2 black bars at the side. Anyway, i am not sure whether this can be done or not but according to Nvidia Control Panel, we can set the LCD to display in normal mode instead of widescreen (something like 1:1 mapping but manually done). Have yet to try it but i will test it out tonight to see whether it works or not..

Hm... just now touch my DELL back... (just come back from UUM to pick up my computer back and bring it there... so got some time to online tongue.gif )

Unfortunately still on 6800GS as my PSU is not here yet...

I go to Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > GeForce 6800GS > Digital Flat Panel Settings

And from there I set the setting from Monitor Scaling to Centered Output. Then set the resolution to 1280 x 1024. And bingo... it didn't scretch. Tried opening a few programs and all works perfectly so far... but haven't tried to open any games yet. Will try it later... thumbup.gif

The latest 24inch SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER 245B is using TN panel? Does this means that all manufacturers will go for TN and leave S-IPS/S-PVA behind due to cost cutting?

That's what is likely to happen, large due to price reasons. It's why the 22 inch section is so popular now, it's cheap and to the average consumer they don't make the distinction between panels.
