QUOTE(meanmachine @ Jun 24 2009, 11:28 AM) Thanks.. ok, i follow ur suggestion.... i just called PB kota bharu, my card have arrived there.. tmrw i will collect, my card only take 4 working days to collect after being approved... while others people who also applied for pb visa electron, it takes minimum 2 weeks to collectAnyway, my suggestion for you is that. Collect the card this Thursday first. And use it probably for a year, since the card is free for the first year. But once you collect the card right, make sure you go to the customer service there to apply for their online account. This can only be done via customer service, and not through ATM. They'll give you a temporary pin number, so that you can actually access your statement online. Since you have the Visa Electron now, then you can use that first to verify your Paypal account. Opening a bank account with Public Bank is minimum of RM250. But you can withdraw it out later. So it's not necessary for you to use PB Day 2 Day debit card for now. If I'm not mistaken the latest one, is that if you use more than RM1.2k the annual fees is waived. |

QUOTE(Leon|| @ Jun 24 2009, 11:20 AM) if i wan to pay installment by maybank2u online, is that possible? because i don't own a cc. no you cant do installment using debit card.i was thinking to buy laptop online by paying installment. debit card = you spend money that you have in your account, if you have insufficient fund, then transaction will fail. |

Called up PB CS yesterday and was informed son card approved and now got to wait for letter (which most probably means next week will arrive).
Good to know that Visa Electron overseas cash withdrawal fees is only RM10 plus of course the normal fees imposed by Visa for overseas transaction. Want you guys opinion - reason why I asked my son to get Visa Electron is because he is under 18 and can't be issued a CC. And with charges of RM10 only, is it a good option for me to deposit money into his Visa Electron account here and so that he can withdraw in US? However he can be issued a debit card in US from his checking account (current).hmm, i guess deposit some amount which he and you think is enuff....if he need somemore money then only deposit to him? In respect of your second statement, my thought is that it is so convenient that I can deposit in RM into his Visa Electron anytime at any PB machine (no need go teller do TT or bank draft during working hours) and he can withdraw it is USD when he needs funds. |

And with charges of RM10 only, is it a good option for me to deposit money into his Visa Electron account here and so that he can withdraw in US? I assume he is studying in US ? Why don't you just get him a Citibank Citicard ? It is annual fee free. Citibank does not charge a cent when he withdraws money at overseas Citibank. Another alternative is HSBC but HSBC will charge you RM5 for each withdrawal made at overseas HSBC (overseas handling fee will be waived if you're holding a Premier ATM Card).Anyways, these two options certainly are much better than Public Bank VISA Electron. Open an account in Citibank or HSBC. HSBC is huge in New York. HSBC is also present in many other States but not quite as big as New York. Citibank is also huge in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami area. Should be very convenient for your son. This post has been edited by MilesAndMore: Jun 26 2009, 01:31 PM |

Citibank Citicard is it a debit card that is issued with savings or current account? I have considered Citibank and UOB but both these banks also need the account holder to be 18 years above. Actually anyone below 18 cannot open an account in Malaysia and have to be a joined account with an adult. Same case in US, my son can get a student checking account but it has to be jointly open with me and then only he can write checks and get a Visa debit card. By the way my son going to midwest U and got no citibank or hsbc branch there This post has been edited by Gen-X: Jun 26 2009, 02:01 PM |

Blue one for regular customers and Gold one for Citigold customers. Bank of America is huge there but not a single branch for Citibank. What a pity ! |
