well,i've applied PB visa elecron 3 weeks ago....last 2 days i called them..they said just approved...so i can collect it on tis coming wed....then,yesterday they called me again...said my card has been approved on 18 june....i can collect it 3 WEEKS from today...sweat.gif
if i really need to wait 3 weeks again, means i've waited 6 WEEKS to receive de card...
*
my son also applied for PB Electron more than 3 weeks ago, the branch officer told us that in 2 weeks he will get letter informing him to pay RM25 and then 1 week after that can collect card. I called the bank few days back and asked on the status of the application since it has been so long and the guy said their system shows they only received the apllication 9 days ago! Based on above, it looks like it will take another month before my son gets his Visa Electron. So slow lah PB.

Anyone here can elaborate more on Visa Electron charges for overseas cash withdrawal? i.e. admin charges

Called up PB CS yesterday and was informed son card approved and now got to wait for letter (which most probably means next week will arrive).

Good to know that Visa Electron overseas cash withdrawal fees is only RM10 plus of course the normal fees imposed by Visa for overseas transaction.

Want you guys opinion - reason why I asked my son to get Visa Electron is because he is under 18 and can't be issued a CC. And with charges of RM10 only, is it a good option for me to deposit money into his Visa Electron account here and so that he can withdraw in US?

hmm,y not issue a supplement CC for him?but of course i think debit card is better so that he wun over use it tongue.gif

hmm, i guess deposit some amount which he and you think is enuff....if he need somemore money then only deposit to him?

like I said, he is under 18 so he cannot get a CC Supp card here and also can't get one in USA (depending on which State, age 18-21, next year whole country need to be 21 to get CC). However he can be issued a debit card in US from his checking account (current).

In respect of your second statement, my thought is that it is so convenient that I can deposit in RM into his Visa Electron anytime at any PB machine (no need go teller do TT or bank draft during working hours) and he can withdraw it is USD when he needs funds.

I assume he is studying in US ? Why don't you just get him a Citibank Citicard ? It is annual fee free. Citibank does not charge a cent when he withdraws money at overseas Citibank. Another alternative is HSBC but HSBC will charge you RM5 for each withdrawal made at overseas HSBC (overseas handling fee will be waived if you're holding a Premier ATM Card).

Anyways, these two options certainly are much better than Public Bank VISA Electron.
Open an account in Citibank or HSBC. HSBC is huge in New York. HSBC is also present in many other States but not quite as big as New York. Citibank is also huge in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami area. Should be very convenient for your son.

Thanks for reply.

Citibank Citicard is it a debit card that is issued with savings or current account? I have considered Citibank and UOB but both these banks also need the account holder to be 18 years above. Actually anyone below 18 cannot open an account in Malaysia and have to be a joined account with an adult. Same case in US, my son can get a student checking account but it has to be jointly open with me and then only he can write checks and get a Visa debit card.

By the way my son going to midwest U and got no citibank or hsbc branch there sad.gif

Citibank Citicard can be issued with both Savings/Checking account. Blue one for regular customers and Gold one for Citigold customers.
Midwest University in St Louis ? Yeah, there is indeed no Citibank branch there. Bank of America is huge there but not a single branch for Citibank. What a pity !  doh.gif

No lah Midwest means States in the Northern Middle of USA ( Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin). Told him to get Visa Electron as he can open an account himself with me signing on the application form. He is to decide how to spend his money and therefore I do not want to know. Moreover, you and others have mentioned that it can be used with paypal. Also when he comes back for holidays, he can withdraw cash from Public Bank.

Hi this actually happened to me once when I used my credit card.  What happened was that, I went and swiped my card and it took a very long time for them to process the transaction.  The counter got tired of waiting, ended up canceled the transaction by pulling out my card.  I didn't get my refund until 3-4 weeks after that day.  Try waiting another few more days check your balance again.  Good luck..

what card? MBB also?

Prince of Andalus & nanakopy87: my son got his letter to go to branch to collect card Visa Electron. I thought he will have to deposit RM25 first before he can collect the card. What was the case for either of you?

So tomorrow when collecting card, have to go teller and apply for online banking right?

My son collected the Visa Electron card but he can't open an online account as he is under 18 years of age. Aiyah, I should have checked on this earlier and apply the Visa Electron under my name and give hime a supp instead, wasted 1 month!

He can still check his balance by going to ATM machines where there will be a RM2 imposed at non-Public Bank ATMS. This method a A bit troublesome.

RM2 is just to check balance, yalah rugi. Nevermindlah, next year when he comes back he can apply online lah.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Jul 2 2009, 07:08 PM)
You should consider applying him the Public Bank Day2Day VISA debit card. RM10 will be deducted whenever he withdraw cash at CHASE/Bank of America/US Bank ATM. It works just like PBB VISA Electron. The annual fee is RM12 and will be issued to you right away when you open a savings/current account with Public Bank. If he already owns an account with Public Bank, just tell them you'll like to apply an ATM Card/VISA Debit. Since he is still under 18, the dad or mom has to sign a few documents so an ATM Card/VISA Debit can be issued.
You need to register for "Verified by VISA" from www.publicbank.com.my if you want to use it to buy a room at Genting.
*
I also read that will be an admin fees of 1.25% for overseas transaction using Visa Electron, so I guess it will also applies to Day2Day. Anyway, I guess the Visa Electron will still serve its purpose for my case where I can deposit money here and he can withdraw in USA but it will be more for emergency cases now.

Day2Day card is good for thoses who uses the card for petrol and groceries, the rebate is 1% which is than Visa Electron but other than these the rebate is only 0.3%. Visa Electron rebate is fixed at 0.5%.

As for Public Bank Visa Electron, you must go through the counter in order to apply for the Online Banking.

I was replying that under 18 can apply for Visa Electron but cannot apply for internet banking where one needs to be 18 above.

Today, went to RHB and was informed in 2 weeks time I cannot withdraw cash over the counter if amount less than RM5K. Lost my ATM card months ago so wanted to get new one but they out of stock and instead asked me to get their MC debit card called cash connect.

Within 15 minutes I was issued the debit card with pin number and can immeditely use it. Best of all, I can choose the last four digit numbers I want from the cards available in the branch smile.gif Just checked, they charge RM8 for overseas cash withdrawal which is lower than PBB Electron.
