Guys, I urge everyone here to send the email to wecare regarding
lousy HD and 4K picture quality and tag in CC YB Fahmi and YB Teo Nie Ching.
Astro: wecare@astro.com.my
YB Fahmi email: fahmi@kkd.gov.my
YB Teo email: teonieching@kkd.gov.my
Hope everyone here can do their part here and it only will take 10 mins of your time to send the email. Appreciate your kind assistance on this guys
I don't think they'll prioritise this matter also. They'll say the video bitrate they use is "considered okay" and acceptable, and then close your case.
The video bitrate of their 4K UHD channels now (ch805, 806, 549) is still at 18.5Mbps constant bitrate per UHD channel.
Compared to 2019 when Ultra Box initially launches, the video bitrate was 25Mbps constant bitrate per UHD channel.
Meanwhile for its HD channels, they still sandwiched up to 14 HD channels per transponder (DVB-S2 FEC 5/6) as of today.
Back then when Measat 3b launches in 2014 and Astro started using that satellite to offer more HD channels, it was maximum up to 8-10 HD channels per transponder (DVB-S2 FEC 5/6), and the HD picture quality was way better than what we see today.
The more HD channels you sandwich in a transponder, it means each HD channel will get lower video bitrate, hence the HD picture quality will be affected on all channels to some extent.
They might use whatever broadcast AI technology to make the compression artifacts to look not so obvious, but that doesn't mean viewers won't be seeing the compression artifacts at all.
I personally suggest that to minimise the lousy-looking picture quality on HD/UHD channels on Astro, try change these picture settings on your TV if you haven't do so:
- Change Sharpness setting to 0 (zero).
- Set to "Auto", "Low" or "Off" on any of those Noise Reduction related settings (e.g. MPEG Noise Reduction / Noise Filter / Digital Clean View).
- Disable motion interpolation settings (soap opera effect) that simulates smooth motion if you don't need it. Different TVs name them differently, such as "Auto Motion Plus" for Samsung TV, "Motionflow" for Sony TV, "TruMotion" for LG TV. Motion interpolation does affect the overall picture quality a bit.

But without proof lehh…
only JoshHD can provide the bitrate dataEh, don't mention my name liddat
Actually, with the knowledge and the right receiving equipment and computer software, you could say that anyone can obtain the bitrate data from the satellite signal through TS Capture method.
So it's not that I'm the only one out there that can obtain such bitrate data
