What is samsung pay?
Samsung Pay is a mobile wallet that can store supported credit , debit , loyalty and prepaid cards to make payment like your real physical card through a samsung supported phone.

Frequently asked questions and common known bugs

Merchant Terminal Error


1. DO NOT HONOR
This error indicate your bank is blocking your transaction from the following reason

a) over wave limit rm250
b) exceed transaction limit selected bank limit at 10
c) other bank related issue

2. CONNECTION ERROR
This error indicate merchant terminal cannot connect to internet

it was me who mentioned about the set limit in bhp.

looks like i was wrong that we can set the holding limit.

i retraced my transactions and realize why i said that.

for some reason, using pbb cards, initially the transaction will show as RM200, but after sometime (don't know how long), it will reflect the actual value transaction in my spay transaction.

it doesn't do that when i use mbb cards.

it may be due to how spay exchanges info with pbb servers.

and this is only for bhp. caltex still shows RM200 no matter what card i use.

After you mentioned it, I went to check my list of transactions. Really leh..... mine also changed to the exact value. It was showing RM200 on the day I pumped. You didn't mention, I really would not have noticed the change. The bank held the RM200 for 2 days, so probably it changed when the amount was released.

Samsung Pay finally pushed the support for PayPal now. Good for those banks that do not support Samsung Pay. Anyone have tried?

just check my bank statement, on 28 march i make a trans at guadian with spay until now no record on bank statement.

That makes 2 of us Bro. I had a transaction from the 6th of April for RM28.99, Mc Donalds, e-mailed them so long ago. They said that they are checking on it but until now, still no news. Somebody is slacking yo.

I tried last night tapping at the BHP kiosk and it says amount not sufficient or overdrawn... something like that... when I slot the card at the kiosk instead, it works... btw... using MBB.

Current list of Samsung Pay supported cards includes:

Maybank VISA Cherry debit card can be use, Maybank MasterCard can not. "Public Bank’s Visa Electron and Lifestyle Debit Cards are not supported"

U need update your phone number at atm if u havent update it will ask you to call bank. All card need tac to verify adding new card

guy this is not related Spay but related to Maybank CC Treat Point, for whoever cancel ur card, pls spend all your TP before cancalation, i almost lose rm 6000 worth of Giant/Tesco or any cash voucher, after some argument, they can't reinstate but they help me manually redeem .... so i redeem rm 6000 cash voucher, if i don't check (normally i don't bother abt point), i lose rm 6000.

Story begin like this:
I received a msg from my CC bank on my birthday, telling me all transaction on that day i will received triple points, it trigger me that i should have some point with Maybank.

Login maybank2u and Check my Treat point: Zero Points.
Called up call center: they said my point forfeited and they can't do anything.
Called up my branch manager and complaint, they agree to follow up.
today they call me and offer manual redeem (redeem over the phone), as they can't return my points to my account, so i redeem close to RM 6000 worth of cash voucher during that manual redeem process .... woo i nearly lose rm 6000 ....
any one want to buy voucher ?

Point transactions history got date/time when it's being awarded, Samsung is doing spotcheck or what? Are they to check point awarded with every 5-10 minutes gap maybe.

Yes I just got the email today for the gear iconx redemption. I've screenshot my transactions and replied the email. They said it's for verification purposes.

Probably it's only for items with higher points deduction. Last gear iconx redemption points was 8999 and those who redeemed didn't have to send the screenshot. This time 9999 and the screenshot is required. So maybe that is their cutoff point.

Gear sport was 10999 right? That's why screenshot was required. Vacuum cleaner and wireless charger are below 9999 points, so I think you won't be asked for the screenshot this time.

Maybank TAC SMS sometimes can be very slow or no show. Usually, if I have to wait more than 2 minutes, I just request a new TAC and that can sometimes arrive with your initial requested TAC.

I am pretty sure they can see it from their end. Those that used their own merchant terminal will have so many transactions with small or similar purchase amounts, all from the same business retailer.

They need the screenshots for verification. So if you can't provide them with the information, then they won't send you your redeemed product. So far you haven't received any emails yet?

Recently I had problems with RHB debit - kept on getting the error Do Not Honour.

1st time i called them, they told me i wasnt registered to use Samsung Pay and RHB debit even though I had been using it for the past few months.
They proceeded to register me anyway and told me I could use after 2 hours.

Tried using it the next day and still got the Do Not Honour message.

Called them 2nd time and I was told that there was a 10 transaction limit to the pay wave - after that to "reset" it, i had to make a transaction of more than RM250 and be prompted to enter PIN.
Anyone heard of this rule before - I mainly use the samsung pay for meals and coffee, I find it a bit ridiculous that just to continue using it, I'm forced to spend more than I need to.

Please advise, the Samsung Pay option was quite convenient, dont really want to give up using it.

Note: I also have a credit card tied to Samsung Pay, but trying to restrict the use of the CC.

RHB is not the only card with such restriction of number of transaction and need to be "reset" with PIN swipe.

That's a bunch of BS. You don't need to spend more than RM250 to reset. Just pay for anything for any amount and tell the cashier you want to pay with pin & pay. Instead of wave, they'll slot your card in the machine and ask for your pin, and your card is reset.
Rhb has 10 transactions limit daily, and they also have cumulated 30 transactions / RM1000 limit, after which you have to reset with pin. But from my experience, there have been many cases where I haven't reached any of the limit, but I still get 'do not honor' message and I have to reset with pin.
Btw, their CS is one of the most inconsistent I've ever dealt with. Not to mention takes forever to get through and talk to somebody.

I prefer maybank because they dont have transaction limit instead they have amount limit up to rm250 a day and can be reset using a pin transaction.

Rm250 is a BNM limit for wave transactions to avoid ppl abuse stolen card.

Certain machine if exceed 250 will trigger pin.

I'm using rhb debit card. One of the easier card to use for smaller transaction.

1. Daily limit 10 wave
2. Daily limit RM250

If you exceed either one, just use your physical card (don't wave), slot it in and enter pin for any amount purchase. I always buy mentos to reset. Once you reset, they will reset everything to 0 and start again. Good for smaller transaction but not good for petrol.

If you don't swipe a lot, then it's quite easy to continue using without ever needing to reset. Sometimes still get do not honour, but is quite rare.

If you want to swipe smaller transactions continuously, then HLB debit card is better. They said only limit to RM400 accumulative until you reset with card + pin. However I find that if I really swipe too many times (can't remember but I did swipe like 30 times or so in 2 days during x2 points weekend), it will continuously block for a period of time.

How i know not supported. Was at mcd to try. I tap wave nothing happen and you know its my 89th times at mcd so how can i not know what to do.

Then suddenly receipt come out . Cashier ask me to sign then i know its MST. Then i go to pump petrol at my usual place that never fail samsung pay before it didnt work regardless how i tap the card. He let me try 3 times. 3rd time i switch to my maybank card immediately went through with wave.

if you using physical card to wave, probably your card defect because all the time i use lazada prepaid card using paywave at terminal. only after using spay, i never use physical card anymore.

My friend didn't get charge because maybe the method of approach is different.

He said he went to maybank A but visa card ran out. He ask my friend to go to another maybank to do it.

Instead he went to maybank B to do with the above excuse/reason

Bolded part, if you're referring to RHB debit then that's not true. They have 30 transactions / rm1000 cumulative limit when you don't exceed the daily limit. It's stated in their Spay t&c. At 1st I wondered why I got the do not honor error sometimes. Turned out that's mainly the cause. After that I just keep track of the rhb debit usage so I can estimate when I need to reset.

I dont see why that should be a problem unless you have something to hide.

The screenshot does not reveal all your actual card number instead its your last 4 digits of your physical and virtual number for samsung to verify whether your transaction is a geninue transaction or not.

Before you refuse, did you read their t&c when you redeemed the item or not? I believe they have a term where they might / can request for those things. You shouldn't redeem if you don't agree with it.
But let us know if they still deliver the item to you if you chose to not provide the required things. Lol.

That is always the case when you redeem items for free. Always at the mercy of the sponsor and have to abide by their T&C's. Don't see any other way around it.

I noticed the option to pay with iris or fingerprint need to be dismissed 1st for scroll capture to work. If not it will stop at that screen only.

I didn't dismiss those yet it can work.

I just realised why I couldn't get scroll capture to work the other day. I actually pull down the list of transactions to see the image of the whole card and did the screen capture from there. Scroll capture won't work when you do that.

But if you leave the image of card half shown, where the other half is covered (by default that is what you see when you select the card details), then you will be able to scroll capture.

Haha.... mystery solved.😂

Their Privacy Notice (attached and highlighted) explicitly states what they won't do, and yet in the TnC of the redemption they say that they have the right to request for screenshots, which contradicts the Privacy Policy. I'd figure that the Privacy Notice should take precedence.

The context in the Privacy Policy is more about data collecting, harvesting, as like to built a collection/database of all Samsung Pay users usage information. But I don't think this is applicable for points redemption for item, the customer service is doing transaction verification to some redeemers only not all (as for now).

I recently reset my Samsung Pay app on 20th because of authorization token issue, so my transaction list showed on that date onward only with 10 transactions since then (this month I'm gold with 24 purchases made). Those who're so concern about their transaction history just reset their samsung pay app to clear the recent transaction which might be too private to share and make new 1-2 purchase as a cover item and make couple excuses if SPay CS asking why so and so. brows.gif

there can be many reasons for this but it is their right.

the information can be abused, although there is a privacy terms, there are human factors involved and no one can guarantee 100% that it will not leak.

They did say that you have to accept the terms and conditions if you would like to redeem the product. Nothing comes for free.

If you are really uncomfortable with it, then you shouldn't compromise. However, this will also mean that you are giving up on the free gift.

Lol yea. If don't feel comfortable giving out those info, better don't redeem once you see the t&c and let others redeem instead. But there are few loopholes being shared here that they can try. I'm interested to know the outcome too.

Well, CS called me back, and "higher management" has decreed that this is mandatory, else they will hold the item or cancel it

questions to the CS that went unanswered
- what about if i registered with an email that i don't check at all?
- what about when i reinstalled my spay app and all the transactions were cleared? (which really happened last week due to the stupid Confirm button issue)

So, i'm going to send them a card that i dont use, that doesn't have any transactions and will explain the same thing - also they should have recording proof of my call if they don't believe me.

stinks, because i rather get something for free rather than pay for it. hah.

If you give the card that doesnt reflect your spay they could reject. Pity samsung still take the effort to entertain you. Its their right to ask proof.

Point number 1 is totally on you.
Point number 2 I agree. That's something that they have to look at if they really want to impose that t&c. I did reset my spay app cause it kept giving 'do not honor' even after I reset my card with pin. All my records of transactions were deleted but since it was discussed during previous redemptions that samsung randomly asked for proof, I screenshot them before I reset. If people don't know about it and reset and redeem after they reset, there's no way they can trace the transactions record from the app. At least not that I know of.

So many what if. Some people just don't give a damn about tnc and too centred on themselves. As with any sort of online competition/redemption, they will request proof of purchases or identity. Just treat it like a receipt. The receipt will still have your card number. What's so private about it?

If you wanted privacy about your purchases, probably time to use cash only.

Btw, I personally think you should be grateful that Samsung still bother to call you to provide the information instead of telling you, nah, we have free access to all your information and purchases, therefore we will ransack through our records instead. They probably have more respect towards privacy than you think they do.

Yes it did. That was my last resort though. I've reset my card with pin twice, checked with bank CS and they told me nothing wrong with my card although they can trace my rejected transactions. Then I just deleted all data and redo everything. Was ok after that. Lol.

Maybe a bit of education here - You're an enterprise outfit, global in nature. If you have a CS department, of course you have to respond to a customer query when it is logged if it isn't addressed within the first call. It's called a Service Level Agreement.

Agree with this. While Samsung may have the records in the systems, they might not be using it identify you or your spending pattern as per the privacy notice. Rather, calling you and asking for screenshots may be a case of getting your consent to share those info for verification purposes.
I'm guessing they are doing random checks on the redemptions just to ensure minimum abuse and there's no harm unless the person has something to hide.

Guys, how many devices can a CIMB card supported for?
Tried to add the card to Gear but failed.
But no problem for Citibank.

Different banks have different terms. Most probably cimb only allows 1 device per card. Try look for faq or t&c for cimb samsung pay, if they have online. Some banks have.

I don't see anything wrong with the standard reply that you're given. She already explained that it's mandatory from her higher ups. You think SME is a one man show company and she will be able to make these decisions on assumptions that you provided? You're just trying to make her suffer unnecessarily for your own selfish convenient.

Just forego the redemption and let those who wanted it more have it.

Ah, my bad.. I get it now. That's because I didn't think the wearable would be considered another device. I was aiming to redeem one wearable too. Now that you shared this problem, I'm undecided if I still wanted to redeem S3 if it did become available. I thought gear S3 (or sport) just act like an extension to the phone that needed a phone since it don't have cellular capability to receive tac for adding cards.

At least, we know that CIMB and PBB allow one card to be tied to only one device for digital wallet including SPay.
To adding card for Gear, you still need to do it with the phone by launching Samsung Gear app from the phone.
Samsung Gear app has SPay Lite embedded.
The process of adding is exacting like usual SPay.

The Citibank card that I added to S8 and Gear Sport having different number for the virtual card.
