the conditions getting complicated though, I need to read a few times to *kinda* understand how it works

Conditions is easy, need minimum RM 10 spending.

My wechat balance has 0.88 and I also have loaded a coupon of rm6.80(exp 3May) but can only use it with minimum spend of rm10.
So in order to use up all these balances I can:
1. add a bank card and topup rm2.32 (10-6.8-0.88)
2. then purchase rm10 Umobile prepaid topup.

Is that how it should be done?

Try checking if there's any wechat pay sticker on the door. If there is, probably the staff is too lazy to take out the device

I understand Wechat pay is very popular in China but was wondering, how useful is it outside of China? For example, can you use it to buy Air Asia or Emirates air tickets? Or make Agoda booking. Or pay your Maxis phone bills etc?

All the services available for us are listed in WeChat Pay Page. Can reload mobile, buy bus tickets, flight tickets via AirPaz and movie tickets.

Can wechatpay top up with credit card?

No.

MasterCard/Visa but Debit type.

I don't think so, you can also check from your end. I don't use their service at all, except for mobile reloads.

Malaysian mobile reload or China's?

Malaysia no. la. For my China no. reload, I use Taobao as I have more money in Alipay than WeChat Pay CN.

Yeah, we only use it when there is promo. Like now RM 6.80 promo (I think still available) and Starbucks promo.
