Else, just get someone from China to transfer angpau to you.
*
May I ask, are you saying if someone give you angpau, you will have Wechat wallet even though you don't have China bank card and China phone number?

If yes, how to do that?

Thanks

On my Wechat and when I search Wallet, it show a Yuan Wallet and not able to use because no China card and number.

Sorry have to ask this question. If I have a RM wehcat, can I use it in China paying China vendors in Yuan? Are they interchangeable, if there is such a thing/term?

Nope, not possible.

Thanks. Then I guess I am out of luck because I don't have China card and China mobile phone number.

So how do tourists tackle this wechat wallet thing in China?

I can use my China wallet without China phone no. and China bank account, I just need my China friends to transfer angpau to me. Been using since 2014 though got it in 2013.
*
I tried that. My friend sent me angpau but before I can receive, Wechat wanted me to verify using China card and China SIM which I don't have

if you activate the China Wallet for your Malaysia mobile prior the Malaysia Wallet then you will have the option to choose. If not you will only see Malaysia wallet.

So far I manage to add BigPay credit card to the China Wallet but not sure can use to top up or not.

Malaysia wallet cannot use for China.
*
I just tried to link the Bigpay to my Malaysia wallet for the 1st time. Guess what? It says Bigpay is not a Malaysian debit card and declined. rclxub.gif

Sorry...Malaysia Wallet already confirmed cannot link with BigPay. Only Debit card from local bank are allowed.

BigPay can only link to China wallet as international credit card.
*
BigPay is not Malaysian?

Can u link a Malaysian Credit Card? Or only Malaysian Debit Card?

I can link my Malaysia CC to China wallet but serves no purpose, cannot use in China. Only China cards linked or angpau in RMB can be used in China.
*
Since there is no way I can get a Wechat China wallet, can we use Alipay instead as a tourist to China?

Hmm. Only if it's AliPay China account I guess. I didn't have the chance to use earlier as I cannot verify account but I have "semi-verified" my account without China card. Earlier I can't receive from and transfer fund to AliPay users. Now I can receive and transfer fund to my China AliPay friends. I haven't gone to China again this year which I usually do annually due to my different business travel schedule.
*
Is Alipay as widely used as Wechat for taxi and street vendors etc in China? Got to find a way for China usage.

While I do have a China bank card, I don't have a China mobile number.

i read that a lot of us cannot activate China wallet because no bank account in China. I also dont have China account but somehow my China wallet still works, dont know is it because I activated my China wallet few years earlier. Anyway, I heard that now foreign travellers are very diffiucult to open bank account in China using travellers visa. Anyone of you succeed in opening one recently? In addition, I am also wondering if we really manage to open bank account in China, is there any annual fee? (a bit off topic I know, heheh)
*
You will need a China mobile number also, beside China bank account. So 2 hurdles.

Ask someone who has China wallet send you RMB 1 angpow, once your ID is verified, you should be able to get China wallet. that's how I got the China wallet.
*
Tried that. It wouldn't accept any of my credit cards saying those are all not supported for verification.

Any China friend's phone number? Shouldn't that mobile number be the one registered with the China bank?

You can buy them in airport. I bought my Chinese prepaid SIM card in airport with passport, ask for the counter. There's no expiry date, just top up when needed. Can be used in China except HK/Macao. Once you exit the airport only locals can buy with their Chinese IC, and limited to 5 numbers per IC.
*
No expire date? Does that means you can use it for entire year without needing to Top Up? What brand is that?

Not really, foreigners still can get SIM card outside airport in China, as long as you provide passport.

Anyway, to get China wallet, besides mobile number, China bank account is also required, and it is not possible to open China bank account if you use tourism visa.
*
Can these SIM for foreigner be kept alive indefinitely as long you do Top Up?

of course, last time when I bought the China Mobile SIM, it has 1 year validity, as long as you top up, you can keep the number active.
*
China Mobile or Unicom?

And how much does it cost to validate 1 yr?

Can I ask question on the China wallet set up using the above method?
1. Can I top up the China wallet using Malaysian card?
2. Can the money in the China wallet be used to buy things in China?

Thanks

1. No.
2. Yes, provided it's a China wallet.
*
So I guess would be, give money to some friend who have China Wallet (with China bank card) and he transfer money to my China Wallet. Only then can I use it in China. Am I correct?

Can you top up using a China bank account transfer instead of a China bank card?

According to my best friend in China, she said cannot. Need to link to a card, either ATM card, debit card or credit card.
ATM and debit card can transfer money and give angpau but credit card cannot.
Credit card can only be used for expenses.
*
Thanks

But isn't transferring money and expenses or spending money the same thing?
