Hi sifus, asking for your opinions on these two budget mkb's i found:
1. Maibenben DMK01
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/maibenbe...s971872917.html

2.Royal Kludge Rk61
https://shopee.com.my/Royal-Kludge-RK61-blu...8234.1505543878

Would like to try mkb's and replace my old logitech membrane keyboard.

for starters, just get whatever you want, with whatever features that you need. start somewhere if you are interested in making mkb modding a hobby.

How is the build quality? 2xx is damn cheap for alu, even if it is just the top.

as long as you like it, everything is good.

the key idea of the fix is to ensure excess gap between the key cap's stem hole and slider's stem is filled up with something. you try other materials beside cellophane tape.

-RM200, want to test mech keyboards out before investing more.
-TKL or 60% would be fine, but no idea whether the programmed layers of the 60% would be a huge hassle.
-Usage will be lots of typing at the office, so quieter switches like browns or red will be nice.

Hi all sifu, want to get some ideas on what other hot-swappable wireless keyboards out there, currently using Keychron k2 and been wanting to upgrade my experience, chase down the rabbit hole and thinking about lubing the switch, hence the hot-swappable.

Saw some people suggesting Geek GK84 or Keychron K6 but looking for more option.

here is another reskinned switch, gateron merlot, https://novelkeys.xyz/collections/switches/...merlot-switches

essentially, it's gateron red with nylon housing (ks-3), with different stem and housing colors.

I wished I could help you. I used to sell quite a few IBM Model Ms and Model Fs but had to take a break due to illness.

These days I only have my own collection and some parts for sale, like this blank keycap set for IBM Model M keyboards and this Duratrax Precision Nut Driver to open up IBM Model Ms. There are some vintage IBM keyboards on eBay but I'd recommend a lot of caution because many of them have issues or are overpriced.

in general, under normal usage, most mkbs with decent qualities last forever. they are not pricey either.

it's when manufacturers started to cut corners (e.g., bad-quality switches, pcb, key caps with wrong materials and printing technologies, etc), introducing unnecessary components that have higher risks of failure (e.g., led, knob), and various user behaviors, that make mkbs more vulnerable to failures. (to be fair, most of the times they are repairable, as long as you have replacement parts)

mkbs are supposed to be simple to serve its purposes as an input device imo. the obvious advantage of mkbs is that it can be further optimized for a much better typing experience. this is fundamentally a good thing, because since you will use it for a long long time, you might as well make it serve you better. to achieve all the above, you don't really need anything fancy.

as for vintage boards, if it's for collection purposes, by all means hehe

basically they are the same switch. the variants are because of different housing color combinations.

Case

PCB Choose PCB only and not any of the other kits

Stabs. Choose GH60 plus 1 setEdit - Actually if you are sure you want a 6.25U spacebar, you can choose the GH60 1 set. Difference is it doesn't come with a 7U stab.

Switches. I recommend the 5 pin since the PCB accepts it. Makes it easier to align. But you're not installing yourself so up to you. How many pieces depends on what layout you want. Check on the PCB page for possible layouts.

Choose assembly switch 80

All you need now is keycaps and a USB C cable.

But since you like the NYM96, why not the XD96?

hello. i`m thinking of getting a custom mechanical keyboard. xd84 is in my mind right now.

i just want to ask, how much should i spend for it including assembly service? i don`t think i have time to assemble it.

thanks.

I offer build commissions. Assembly starts from around RM80 for the most basic one, of course, the pricing adds up when including tuning and tweaking (lubed switches, tuned stabs, foamed plate etc) as well as if there's any LED involved. You could always drop me a message on Facebook Messenger if you're interested. wink.gif

if you want the full bling then clear type films is a must. standard colorful switch films relevant when you have black housing like this
