Exactly. I wanted to move to something more modern (optical switches, USB C etc) but there's just something about it that I can't part with.

Anyone tried Keychron boards? They seems pretty reasonably priced.

you don't need to part with it. just build new boards and have fun with them.

imo custom builds tuned for own liking are much better.

Hi,

Have you guys heard of Rakk Lam-Ang Pro from Philippines?
Do you guys know how to obtain that board through parcel forwarding service? For now, you could only purchase through their website or Lazada PH, both which do not offer international shipping.

I also do know that it's a generic OEM board that could be found from Alibaba. I have also seen a Taobao seller that sells the same board under a different brand but it's more expensive than Rakk Lam-Ang Pro.

Can anyone help me?
*
you can look up such forwarding services in Philippines and ask them to quote you the price, or you can ask local friends from there to help you out.

however, i think you should calculate and compare the total costs first from different sources, then only decide.

Last time, we quoted before in the facebook group.
We will need it ship via PHPost to Malaysia, which is quite expensive. Only direct ship from PH.

Can you share the taobao seller link for the similar board but more expensive?

Where do you usually source the custom build parts? I know switches are easily available. How about the casing, PCB? Or maybe Bluetooth module?

mainly from taobao (from shops like kbdfans, ymdk, and many more). it's easier for me to find parts there compared to other places.

for pcb, usually i just use generic 60% pcbs, like dz60 and ymdk non-led pcb. i don't use bluetooth module, so i'm not sure about it.

How would you rate YMDK products' quality vs kbdfans and kprepublic?

Kbdfans>kprepublic>ymdk?

tbh i very seldom get stuff from kprepublic. it's because previously they sold a very bad pcb-mount screw-in stabilizer for quite some time, and claimed something that were not true at all. (in short, lies; the item has been taken down for good after receiving influx of complaints) for those who bought that before they will know what i mean.

i prefer kbdfans and ymdk because they have good customer supports, they do help to check items before shipping, and their stuff are reasonably priced imo. among these two, kbdfans is better, stuff are slightly expensive. ymdk is catching up aggressively in terms of their own kits.

a note about the ymdk 60% non-led pcb, personally i think it's good enough, quality and price wise. however there is a physical 'flaw'. for 64-key builds, one of the side holes for 5-pin switches on the up arrow key is missing. it's not a big deal, because it only affects 5-pin switches, and you can solve the issue by cutting off the affected pole from the switch, or use a 3-pin.

edit: the above are my experience with kbdfans and ymdk since few years ago.

.. and kbdfans is the only seller that reminds me to apply vouchers when making purchase from their shop hehe

yes always explore for options. usually there are more than one shop that sell the same or similar stuff, and i just like to have options, especially parts.

they said there were 'issues' in terms of key cap compatibility in r1. (which, well, at least i found none for jtk, gmk, or epbt)

Yeah I read that PSA on reddit. But so far not many other people complained about it. I'll see for myself when I get my first KAT GB set in October!

yeah but it's fine if it's an enhancement hehe

other than that, from the specs, they have changed stock screws from hex screws to philip screws also (it must be an adjustment due to the relatively harder installation process with hex screws for those who are impatient haha)

Well, typically, unless you're OK with Black on Black (which is actually Black on very Dark Grey), most PBT sets would not have black/dark shades as it's difficult to dye-sub a lighter colour onto a dark colour, typically ABS ones have such combo coz the lighter colour is a separate piece of plastic.

Have not seen any dark coloured SA PBT sets.
