Question to all sifus

- company new plan to have review twice in a year so most probably in another 6 months might have increment and up title if is performance is good and also from this year will have contractual bonus.

my current mood in company so far okay , but i've been stick to same project for same time i've joined the company. but in coming months (3-4 months) i might get involve in new project. but i'm planning to hit 5 k by this year so should i stay another 6 months n wait for the review ? or after 3 months look for another company ?

pros - work from home, flexi hours as long u deliver your task
cons - don't think there is any cons but is small company < 15

benefit : 13 month salary + dental allowance 1 month RM 100 (can claim back to salary) * 12 RM 1,200
bonus : depends on company this coming month 1 month

- involved new project, no work from home, need to reach office before daily meeting and still small size company even tough is growing

is my current pay is norm or underpaid ? at first my increment was just 10% and i voice out my concern and eventually increase another 20% so is 10% + 20 %

the next increment will be less than that 10 % (my boss said so since i was getting huge increment)

let me analyze.

a full stack developer, going into 30s for 6.5k with diploma.

last update was 2k difference for the past 2 years and potential lesser increment since last increment was 30%

you have to ask only to get increment, else i think if dont open mouth will only take 10% only

i'd say u can do better, but u have to prove your full stack skills is worth it. else diploma is one of the reason HR might lowball you
consider go huawei, they pay well

Sorry, it's technically 35 because I was looking at year and I used 2019. But back to point. By being really really really lucky I guess.

I started out late because after SPM, I was doing odd jobs and wonder around without much purpose, spending the first few years taking different courses and working part time. Subsequently I enrolled and did my degree proper which meant I really only came into the work force really late.

My first role was with a local Bank @ 2700. There was a huge CA negotiation that year which bump my salary up by around 15% and later I was also given a big bump due to performance, position and role (Rewards in HR is a specialist role, but I came in as a normal generalist pay).

Left to join my next bank with a pay bump of 40% and the year after got a promotion which again came with a nice pay bump. Then was offered an opportunity to head my own team with a deal that doubled my salary. After two years of that, I took on this current role.

So by chance, I ended up in a field I didn't plan to be in, in an area that is pretty niche and the constant need for talent means opportunities are plenty. I also tend not to stay that long which helps.

Your journey is nothing short of incredible then. I like how you took courses to better equip yourself in the job market instead of waiting for opportunity to present itself.

Does one require some specific skillset to be in your industry? I am late bloomer myself too and I am currently stuck.

No doubt, especially when I will admit I'm not one that enjoys the rigour of universities.

It depends, I guess. I'd say being strong in numbers or being strong in the ability to make sense of numbers. Most of the successful big guns in my field are not HR educated, they are actuarial science or engineering background. Being strong in excel is also crucial as you are churning through large datasets (though you are unlikely to find many VBA or even PowerQuery level folks yet) and lastly the ability to argue, decide and present findings based on the data available. The last one is more for the management side, as you will have to, for example, convince the Board why X% increment and why X mth bonus vis-a-vis company performance.

The problems in Performance and Rewards tend to be the entry barrier, it's pretty hard to convince someone to hire a mid-level talent that have no P&R background and these talents also won't come in at a entry level pay. Rewards being what it is also attracts the most attention / ire / debate at top levels so if you don't have the stomach for political ploys or top management facing it will be hard. And lastly, the hours can be grueling during payout time where decisions is left late but outcome is expected early mega_shok.gif

1 month bonus split into bi annually.
Actually I’m thinking of switching to commercial since that is the path I’m aiming for now but I heard from many peers stating that gain experience from audit first before going into commercial. Is this true? Will audit skill really add value to commercial line?
