its getting far from the real problem actually... ok i think i shud just released it. If u read somewhere at the back, I did said a lil bit bout it. I bought a casing from erm AW and there are some minor scratches. I wasnt satisfied and guess what, I got the replacement with a perfect pair of em and have like plastic cover that I suspect to assure it wont get easily scratched. That's basically it, I could go deeper but i dont think its interesting. I mean there is sumthing interesting about the most famous computer brand in the world, which in my case are customer service and product quality. My comment will be I thot they werent good as the legend tells, but i was wrong, they are as good as the tales tell about em.

New anti-VAIO flamebait... icon_rolleyes.gif

My bro (who takes care of his things like they were his dear children) has just gotten the shock of his life... His VAIO C, which to you guys who've been following the thread, has just got BOTH it's hinge bases cracked open by a considerable margin... sweat.gif

So much for the VAIO's build quality... Premium price, premium quality? I don't think so... Add with the bad SZ experiance I had, plus the crap/bloatware issue, and Sony and their VAIOs are fast being thrown into my personal blacklist (which already includes big names such as Acer and Twinhead)... icon_rolleyes.gif

Consider I've been flinging my M1210 around (with care, of course, but considerably with less caution then my paranoid bro) and the only thing it has now are the small gaps (that it came from the factory with anyway, and which are not worsening any) that I've been talking about in the first few pages... thumbup.gif

Chalk it up for the Dell M1210 for the after-manufacture (as most of Dell problems stem from mistakes done during production anyway) durability stakes... thumbup.gif

Even mac where ppl thought have the best qc around. cousin of mine own a macbook, has been complaining to mac service center since the second month of purchase pertaining to the crooked lcd screen panel (barely notice it with naked aye, only obvious when closing the lcd panel) guess what, mac refuse to replace it! another cousin of mine still using the very first batch of inspiron till now, no hardware malfunction or whatsoever, only scretches here and there ....bravo to dell! thumbup.gif

I see, I did update my drivers few times ago, but in the end i have to go back with my initial stock driver which is surprisingly alot more stable than others.Yes new drivers were said to be more optimize with new games, optimize my A$$. It really depends, updating a driver is not necessary IF ur settle with any one of em. Especially when ur list of games work fine with the current driver ur using. Unless there is a problem, then updating driver is a must.

I suggest u to either go back to stock, or, try to hit notebookforums, I pretty much sure u will meet someone with ur spec and have the solution for this. Good Luck !

Well, that's the thing with beta drivers, you have to test a whole lot of them to get one that is actually usable... sweat.gif

For me, 160.03 Vista 32-bit has so far been a very, very lucky guess... Only problems are Aero corruption when using non-standard (aka 3rd party) OpenGL screensavers, but everything else has been silky smooth as of now... Have 160.20 WHQL sitting in my Download folder for a while now, never got to testing it though... Maybe soon... icon_rolleyes.gif

True, I updated to 160.03 because of two things:

1) Far Cry was giving me black skyboxes when running in HDR with stock drivers.

2) Galactic Civilization 2 just wont run with the stock drivers.

And, of all the newer drivers, only 160.03 could run FEAR WITHOUT crashing to desktop... sweat.gif

I just do what I can... And besides, with all the hype surrounding the sexy, brand-spanking-new (and infamously delayed) M1330, the M1210 era is actually coming to a close... So, I thought I should provide some sort of safe haven for users of the CLASSIC XPS... And actually, the thread has quieted down somewhat too, with me going to Uni, and the fact that somehow, lately, not much problems are being reported on the M1210... sweat.gif

Strangely enough... rolleyes.gif

Could you do this before? I mean, ALT-TABing out of games and playing movies? Cause IMHO movie players ALSO use graphic acceleration (I know mine uses DirectX 9 to render through VMR 9 Windowless... So the conflict might lay there, as full screen games oft use GA as well, therefore causing a conflict... icon_rolleyes.gif

hey guys,

i updated the nvidia drivers and my WEI rating went from 3.4 to 3.3 sad.gif
Also, San Andreas does not play too well, i always get flickering images and it crashes a lot too.

Oh ya, you know the chrome lining around the touchpad? Mine, after 2 weeks is already peeling off...So called up Dell today and they said they will replace it free, but this time only...Seems like they're threatening or something..And my DVD Writer...it makes so much of noise and when i read DVDs, often does the whole drive vibrate so badly that i can feel it trough out my whole laptop and it has scratched a few CDs..They said they will also replace it for me smile.gif The one I have is made by NEC and I requested for a different make as my Dell Desktop too has NEC and once, after prolonged use, it destroyed the surface of a CD.

They should be calling me up tomorrow and I hope by day after I can get it all replaced smile.gif

Cheers.

I take it you used the Dell updated drivers... That's not good to hear... Is it XP or Vista? sweat.gif

About the build quality, I'm going on 3 months with no peeling or anything, I might be lucky in that aspect... But for the optical drive, mine has a crazy habit of NOT securing the disks fully (not all of the tiny disc latches on the round thing you put your discs on are engaged), after which, the thing would vibrate its head off... A good push into the disc tray (ensuring that all the latches are engaged) normally solves the problem... icon_rolleyes.gif
