Back from the dead!....still using my 1210, still works great, everything original aside from RAM upgrades and heatsink mods, not planning to change anytime soon, since it is sufficient for non-gaming needs. Although planning to drop in a T7400 processor into it as upgrade though, and maybe a bigger HDD.

Does it activate by using the wireless switch at the side?

Hi there,
you should know better. the switch is just a switch. the main control in is bios. without the switch you still can enable/disable wireless in bios.

if you don't like WWAN i do have USB modem that has build-in GPS as well.

Hello & good day,

sorry for raising this buried thread, but i'd like to share something that might beneficial to certain owner of this 'expensive paper weight'.

brief history:
as we all know, nvidia GeForce 7400Go (and several other models) is the culprit of burning the m1210 mobo. i bought my m1210 from a friend, several months to expired. superb condition, fast gaming... but eventually the lines on the screen, hang here and there... and finally dead!

called Dell, warranty expired, if i want mobo replacement, need to re-insure at RM900. i refused. RM900 can get me brand new, low end reliable laptop or netbook. complained to NCCC, still failed to claim replacement for free.

up to recent March 2011, USA's Nvidia recall and replace parts caused by their GPU, sadly not applicable to other countries. many XPSs remain dead...cold, and only (but not effectively) usable for paper weight.

PRESENT:
before raya, i suddenly think, i should send the laptop to local recond outlet for repair, with specific remarks "if the repair cost is more than RM500, do not proceed!". 1 week later, i.e. yesterday i've collected the XPS m1210, alive again, charged RM480. he said, the nvidia GPU removed, and now my graphic is the default 'whatever intel mobo', that kind of laggy processing images.

however, i installed Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 (because the LTS), and its performance is better than in Windows XP. now i'm happy again.
compared to my wife's Dell Inspiron 10" netbook; same 1gig RAM, the XPS perform better maybe because: a) dual core processor vs ATOM b)winXP vs win7.

so, if your XPS (or other dead nvidia GPU) is dead, why don't u try to repair it.
