hey guys,

just wanna ask, for those of you who have the 1.3MP Logitech webcam, how is the quality? Mine is simply horrendous. The noise is exorbitantly high. It certainly does not justify the price paid for it. My previous webcam, 0.3MP made by AVF does wayyyyyy better than this. Everyone facing the same thing or is it only me? Appreciate the answers.

Thanks.

Thanks guys for the help regarding the webcam. I contacted Dell support, looks like it's a known problem. Its due to the small sensor size in the camera. Oh nevermind...sigh..

Also got a chance to ask about the XPS M1330. The guys said he is testing out a black one...It will be slimmer and lighter than the 1210, though he declined to give exact figures, will have a 8400 card, a 2.0MP camera..price he said might be on the little high side after all the configurations...

guys, i am experiencing some annoyance with my 1210. the surface of the bottom of the laptop is not even. I only realised this today when I put used it on a flat table for the first time. Everytime I put my palm on the area near the touchpad to type, the bottom-right side of the laptop comes down. Is anyone else also experiencing the same problem?

Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Azel, all the rubbers are of same size. I finally put in on the floor and the problem is gone. Guess my table is not flat after all. But, if i put my Latitude D410 on the same surface, i have no problems at all. Think its the design of the XPS.

Porkchop, I tried on many surfaces....On some, the problems is not there. But on quite a few, it starts rocking. I also put my D410 on the same spot, no problems at all. sad.gif

Azel,

hahaha, the latitude has no shock absorbers as far as i know. the latitude's surface is totally flat, of course it still has the four rubbers, but they're thin. the xps' surface is not quite flat eh..

oh ya, any idea if i still can purchase the 9 cell batt..

today, i called up Dell saying tht i am not happy with my purchase as the webcam is horrendous, the media buttons are too small for me to press and flimsy, the touchpad is cramped up..in fact i noticed the thing was not done well, the chrome area has scratch. ermm..the lid's surface gets all the stains...so i said tht i wanna exchange it for the 1330 and will pay the difference. they said no..if i wanted to, they will charge rm80 for collection, and 20% of the price i paid for my xps as restocking fee...so all in all, i would have lost slightly more than RM 1K and would have to add another 1.2K at least for the 1330 which i sooooo crave for. It's not worth it la..

steventan85, well i could call him up, got his no - was in the Young Enterprise which Dell sponsored last time...

But..I guess its perhaps not right to grumble about it, I could make do with it, but complaining too much as I am soooo craving for the 1330... smile.gif

Yes Azel,

I need to love my 1210 smile.gif Not that I don't..but you know la..sakit hati when I see the 1330..itchy hands smile.gif hahah, was talking to my dad last night about the upgrade, he said I should be grateful for my lappie - was a present from him and he said no use chasing after tech, after all, few months down the road, there will even be a better speced one. i know its true..hv to love my 1210, actually starting to love it slowly..its nice, just that vista was giving me headaches. but its now settling down...about the lid, yes it gets oily marks on it easily..i find myself cleaning it almost everyday sad.gif
am gonna call Dell once to see if I can buy the batt once I finish this smile.gif

Eiraku,

Well bro, I want to demand an exchange, but the thing is this laptop was purchased 73 days as of today (Dell told me tht yesterday when I called them). It was bought by my dad and when I returned to Penang last week only did I open it up and play with it. Dell does not want to buy my reasons. Oh well, but its their policy anyway. My dad should have checked it out. But will try to pursue the problem with some people from Dell I know. See what can be done, else the idea of skinning is a nice one smile.gif Where do you plan to do yours?

Derred,

I was seriously considering that idea. But when I sat down at thought about it deeply, I felt it was not worth it. My dad paid RM 4775 for the XPS. After minusing the restocking and collection fee, i will only get back RM 3735. Which is really low I feel. The 1330 which I configured was RM 5.4K. I would then need to add another RM1665. So, in total I would have spent RM 6440 on a laptop which can be bought for RM 5.4K, an addition of RM 1K. Just not worth it I believe. Anyway, nothing wrong with the 1220, just that I would miss the better graphics card - well, am a seasonal gamer, so guess won't miss much, 802.11n - would not really affect me I believe, the better processing power - its marginal I think. So, the additional RM 1665 is not worth it..hahah, sorry am an accountant in the making smile.gif

Oh ya guys,

Do you all know if I could remap the MediaDirect button as I am thinking of removing the MediaDirect thing, not really using it. Also, any way I could use the front media buttons for iTunes?

Anyway guys, thanks for all the support and help, appreciate it.

Good day

derred,

Thanks a bunch man. It works well. Yay....
You know..when you said you want to discuss further on how i could lower the cost, i was so tempted. But when I read the last few parts of your message, I thought to myself, well, derred has a point. I should be grateful. Period. smile.gif Yes, indeed if in the future I get a new one, I shall still keep this, Thanks derred.
Anyway, am loving my 1210 more each day.

derred,
well the 1210 will join some of the presents i got from my dad..i still keep em..tough outdated..like my old ipod mini, my old ps2 and some stuff...coz they were presents and some my dad took the trouble to purchase it for me, so guess am gonna keep em for as long as i can smile.gif

oh well, 3 years time i believe i should still be with my xps smile.gif

azel,

hahha, not to say my fingers oily or wht..but sometimes sweat and all..oh well, wished it was not a stain magnet. nowadays i just open the lid from the side, try not to get my fingers on the top surface.

oh ya guys, i have seen lots of laptops with silver finishings..just 1-2 years down the road and the finishing on the palmrest fades. so i think skinning will be a nice idea..

regards.

yup azel, i almost removed my recover partition as well. but vista crashed badly and i needed to reformat - cut not even get into windows. after that incident, i decided not to remove the partition and also i saved the new drivers and some softwares which i downloaded to the partition, so even if i have a clean install, i dont have to download everything again smile.gif

hey guys,

i updated the nvidia drivers and my WEI rating went from 3.4 to 3.3 sad.gif
Also, San Andreas does not play too well, i always get flickering images and it crashes a lot too.

Oh ya, you know the chrome lining around the touchpad? Mine, after 2 weeks is already peeling off...So called up Dell today and they said they will replace it free, but this time only...Seems like they're threatening or something..And my DVD Writer...it makes so much of noise and when i read DVDs, often does the whole drive vibrate so badly that i can feel it trough out my whole laptop and it has scratched a few CDs..They said they will also replace it for me smile.gif The one I have is made by NEC and I requested for a different make as my Dell Desktop too has NEC and once, after prolonged use, it destroyed the surface of a CD.

They should be calling me up tomorrow and I hope by day after I can get it all replaced smile.gif

Cheers.

thanks guys. i am on vista, using dell drivers. but only thing i am scared that if i use drivers not from dell, than it might give some problems. u guys uses laptop2go.com? today at 4, the guy will be coming to replace my touchpad and my dvd writer..this time they are giving me a sony version.

Added on July 25, 2007, 10:30 amhey guys, the dell guy came yesterday and replaced my optical drive as well as my whole palm rest which includes the touchpad and the media buttons in front.

thing is, the media button illumination is no longer the bright original blue..it is now light greenish blue..the colour difference is obvious relative to the power button. at first, i thought of changing it, but i think the new colour is better, is not too striking. plus, the new buttons are nice, real nice, they are easy to press and not too recessed as my previous one...

thing is, i studied the touchpad again, and i managed to find that the chrome lining is again, poorly done..its not peeling off, but its not straight..its a shoddy job. anyway, called them up again and demanded a replace..i specifically asked them for the same colour which i have now and i said i do not want recessed buttons like my previous one...the guy claims that there is only one colour and he cannot guarantee tht the buttons will be like how i want it sad.gif i said it must be like how i want it, else i am going to bring it up with their customer care people and ask for them to change it one more time...sometimes these people just drive me nuts....

update : my palmrest...they sent me a new one, after fixing it, looked new and nice...then at night when i was inspecting it properly..i noticed it again...dang...same old problem. the chrome plating is badly done. sigh...called and asked them to change it. 2 days later, they sent a new one. this time, before letting the guy fix it, i inspected it thoroughly, was even worst than the one i had. rejected it and called up dell customer care. i took a pic of the problem i was complaining about and sent it to them. the guy said he will get back to me, until today, no news yet...gonna be almost a week, better call him again sad.gif

oh ya, was at pc fair yesterday. played with the new m1330. i think i like my 1210 better smile.gif its not really lighter than the 1210, feels almost the same..the design is nice tough, especially the titled design..makes it nicer to type things out. i liked the new touchpad, although i wished they would make it bigger. build quality was ok only la...was expecting it to be better. the screen was flimsy. oh ya, only 2 USB ports....thts so little sad.gif

all in all, am happy with my xps smile.gif

hey guys,

i finally got a call from them...they said they got approval to replace my whole casing which supposedly is worth 200USD. I hope it's good this time..Who knows I might get the new touchpad with the XPS wordings on it..yup saw it in PC Fair too...

also, I asked the guy why the two replacements they sent me were faulty and he said it might be because the Dell replacements they sent are all used ones..I swear I nearly screamed you bas***s to him..Bloody fools..they sent me a second hand used item for my new laptop, which was already faulty.

Lets see if the new is is perfectly OK, this time I am gonna be really fussy and see how I can squeeze the sh*t out of them.

Sigh..

hey i also have some blue screen problems. Very often, when I boot-up...I have that problem, and it starts dumping the memory...and it moves into Windows Startup Repair (Vista Business) and will ask me to do a system restore...When I cancel..it takes a real long time and finally claims "to fix" Windows..and once it enters into Windows..it says..the problem was caused by the Logitech QuickCam software. I have had numerous times, even tough I hardly use my webcam...Dell XPS technical support ppl seem to be idiots in handling this case...I am so fed-up and frustrated by their sucky service...
