New Features of iOS 11

Design Changes

Many built-in apps have been refined with darker lines and bolder fonts, with Apple moving away from the thin fonts that have dominated since iOS 7. Some apps, like Phone and Calculator have new designs with darker fonts and round buttons sans borders, while others, like Reminders and Calendar, remain entirely unchanged. Still others, like Messages, Podcasts, and Apple News, feature smaller design tweaks.

Control Centre (User Customable)

In iOS 10, Apple split the Control Center, accessed by swiping upwards from the bottom of the display, into multiple windows. In iOS 11, it's back to a single consolidated window and it has an entirely new look with bubble-style icons. There are two top sections for basic networking options and Apple Music controls, plus sliders for volume and brightness. Smaller icons are available for rotation lock, Do Not Disturb, and other options.

Improved Siri

In iOS 11, Siri is using on-device learning to understand more about your preferences, allowing the personal assistant to learn more about your interests to better anticipate what you might need next. Siri is also syncing that information across all of iOS and Mac devices so the Siri experience is the same regardless of what product you're using.

File App

Files is well-organized and offers up quick access to all content that's stored on an iOS device. Like Finder for Mac, it's searchable, has a section for viewing all recently accessed files, and it supports tags, spring-loading, nested folders, and favorites. Adding a tag to a file for organizational purposes is as simple as dragging the file to the tag color of your choice.

Apple Map

Apple has purchased several indoor mapping companies, and in iOS 11, it's making use of that technology. iOS 11 supports indoor maps of select malls and airports around the world, displaying full layouts of each location with icons for restaurants, bathrooms, and other notable indoor landmarks.

Indoor mapping technology is limited to a handful of malls and airports at launch, but Apple says support will be dramatically expanded over time.

Apple Music

The "Connect" feature in Apple Music that required you to make a Connect account back when the service first debuted is finally being put to use beyond following artists. In iOS 11, you can make an Apple Music profile that allows you to share playlists with friends and see your friends' playlists.

Too bad. Upgraded to official 11 as PB got the privilege for GM update too I guess. But it still havent resolve the 3D touch animation lag and shutter...

Anyone notice this 11 has improve home button for soft touch like android phone.

TBH I've tested the speed for opening apps on my 7 Plus (iOS11) and 7 (iOS10) and it's speedier on my 7. Not sure if the final version will be fixed to be at least as quick if not quicker.

How about overall battery consumption? Any notable difference?

From my observation, not that significant of a change.

I'll test out tomorrow when I use my data, today whole day in the house so use wifi, now battery at 29% from 100% around 9AM this morning.

File Apps looks interesting to me.

For anyone have doubts about the onstage failure of Face ID, rethink this: You need to key in passcode manually at first login before you are able to use Touch ID after every restart. Same goes to the situation during last keynote, the first demo device Craig using definitely haven’t pass through the first login. That’s why there was a sentence written” You need to enter your passcode to use Face ID”. If you said it was because it had prior fail attempts to cause the phone forcing you to enter passcode, Craig encountered this at his first attempt. Doubts cleared.

Battery life seems okay for a full day's of use.

anyone notice with ios 11 the control center toggle for wifi and bluetooth does not completely turn off ? you need to enter settings to manually turn it off

Already notice that when testing out beta back then...
it just disconnect from current connected network...
when u wake the device, it will look for network again...

pretty funny they added few existing android functions and make it as new ios 11.

probably it is a bug they overlook lol

having wifi on all the time doesn't consume much battery. the serious issue is when you are connected to an open wifi but not yet connected to the internet.

yeah that's the issue everyone is complaining about lol ...

iphone 7 plus, consume more batt compared to ios 10.3.3

Using GM on my iPad

There is a bug when sharing via Twitter

The first line that you type is hidden, if scroll down can see, but when you release it is hidden again

Usually the GM and final release will have the same build no. Meaning they’re identical, unless there’s a major bug to be squashed. The minor ones will usually be addressed in 11.1.

The location signal at top bar display cannot disappear now after the update. Anybody facing this problem?

I say give it a few days/weeks or a month.
even all apps need the dev to update it to become 64bit.
i fear those non-active dev did not update their apps anymore - games especially.

Now I know the culprit. The new IOS still updating my photo with location. That is why my location signal cannot disappear.

not exactly any just an expanded list by Apple - their version of customization. some of not much use.

fully customizable would be like the CC app which is only available via jailbreak. But that's a different debate.

My point is aesthetics which is a key feature of Apple. It is sorely missing in this new control centre.

After google it, the setting for auto brightness is buried under General - Accessibility - Display Accommodation - Auto brightness. Why Apple make it so difficult for us?

Too troublesome the control centre wifi toggle ... now everytime have to go in setting to off the wifi ... if not it will auto connect any remembered wifi even i switch off my wifi in control centre...
