u can still cast from pc windows using chrome if yr tv has chromecast.

You are better off buying a proper box than trying to force an RPI to be a "TV Box". For starters, you'll definitely run into low performance issues while playing certain media.

IMO, I don't expect them too remove that feature.. It's probably buggy with the new app and they are yet to fix it. I hope.

i think the mobile casting block is deliberate with new app.

They can't block that.. They can decide to make it app only and block web browsers.. But simply can't block when an hdmi port is being used. After all, people use monitors and or TVs to work on their PCs.

Yes, it is indeed deliberate. It is inside the code. They detect for connection of external monitor, and Miracast is detected as a form of an external monitor.

On iPad to TV via AppleTV, stream is blocked using AirPlay. On MacBook Air, AirPlay to TV via Apple TV is possible.

Shield user here. Didn’t notice any microjudder. However the app will appear as a small strip in the center of the screen. However when switch to full screen mode the video is 4:3 ratio, got black bars on side of screen even with HD channels.

I agree. Assteruk is being stupid. First they remove Android TV support, then they block casting, then they try to get Android box banned in the country... they could’ve just made it possible to subscribe via Android box and earn subscription fees from there. But no...

all that they are doing with the new app means only one thing - they are hell bent on using their PAID DECODERS only.

are you using old v8.2.6 or the new app?

New app. I updated it very recently. Usually use an apk copier to rip it from my phone, then put on thumb drive using USB OTG and carry over to Shield to install.

yr experience with new astrogo on shieldtv is not good.

does seem to confirm astro has done "a great job" to stop all ATV devices from using new astrogo app nicely.

Only reason I installed Assteruk on the go is because I want Disney Junior and Discovery. If it wasn’t for this two channels I wouldn’t care.

What dumb marketing strategy they have to shut themselves out from the competition.

They should join the IPTV players sell subscriptions to any Android user to install and view their live TV app on any device regardless of phones, tv boxes or PC. The programmer behind their app must be a idiot who only follows instructions directly from his dumb managers.

Won't last if they continue to force everyone to use only their desired platform/device for their own interests. Even their content partners will distance away from them for introducing silly ideas to limit their market.

this biz approach is quite common... like Sky UK, Singtel TV - use of STB's... with apps on other devices free for subscribers.

but unlike Netflix, HBO Now where apps can be used on approved devices for a subscription.


for us here, fortunately, while they block casting from mobile devices and use on ATV devices, there are still many boxes that can do the job for TV.

let's hope this does not change.

this one has a bug fixed - video and audio are now sync-ed correctly for live HD channels.

and i seem to see an improved video... improved colors and clarity... perhaps bit rate been raised...
