Not all people can afford 4k tv.. somemore with limited internet connection.. i am stuck with stimix 8mbps.. however i still can get full hd streaming via netflix.. smart tv also have their own OS.. not all are on androidtv.. thus hence come the requirements, eh, i wanna install hahaohd, myyaipitivee lah, but can't do, since their smart tv os does not support it..

currently i own a mibox s, mibox 3s and a beelink gt mini-a (androidtv) version. For streaming netflix, I use the mibox.. for a bit heavy task gaming for example.. use the gt mini.. my previous boxes that I already let go is mecool k2 pro, mecool bb2, tx3 max, and a tx6.. and based on my own experience, i can say that mibox outperformed them all in term of streaming.. the downside is the lack of LAN port, no SD card slot, single USB port.. well, all the cost have gone to pay google for the certification fee..

people nowadays lazy to do own research.. they see their friends using netflix hd, so they also want a tv box that can play.. but not willing to fork out money to buy the certified netflix device.. ended up buying the cheapo china android box, and stuck with max 540p resolution..

Bold part.. Also your assessment and history is spot on. The ONLY reason I ever recommend the MiBox is to this who's TVs don't come or have assess to and official Netflix app, yet want to stream Netflix and or its other certified services, provided the fella has good Wi-Fi environment. Else, there are much better boxes that can handle heavy lifting. However, when I ask some noob who waltzes in wanting to be spoonfed, to just do a little research. Search the thread and read a bit.. Their usual reply is often along the lines of, you could have just told me which box instead of asking me to go read.. Then later complain when they've bought the wrong devices and have to change..

Been there bro. Finally settled down with shield a month back, and bought a 2nd unit (2nd hand) in the following week. No more headaches, other than I was on rampage buying VPN and streaming services from shopee lol. Happy ever after.

You might as well list boxes which cannot run.

I think all boxes are able to run. Some boxes take less trouble and some boxes take more trouble. Some Android 6 boxes could not run could be due to really broken DRM library.

I think some of ppl want to use vpn with their Netflix. Some 4k tv which are not Android tv are not capable to install vpn, thus they will stuck on malaysia content only inside. With tv box, they can watch overseas content

How is content linked to account in Netflix ? When you use VPN to access netflix content in US, do you use a different netflix app and different netflix account ? Or you use the same account, same netflix app, the public IP of the network automatically decides where is the content is pulled down for viewing ?

This answer is correct. I once realize when i travel to Japan and open netflix over there. Content different than malaysia. Then when i come back to malaysia, buy surfshark vpn n do experiment by using vpn location from other countries, it shows some additional content.

So i assume those who want to use mibox even though have netflix in tv want more content inside netflix

Maintain same account and app will do.
The content display based on your ISP IP location. Can use VPN to try different country content of Netflix.

Actually it is very simple. He is taking the ROM from the stock or other places, and he did something about it, of course it will run. For example, the GT1-A case, he took the ROM from freaktab which comes with TWRP, and by using TWRP he installed magisk, and then use Magisk manager to hide root from AstroGo.

In other words, he is doing his own value-add, the stock shipment from other sellers, they might not be willing to do all this value add, then the buyers will have to be on their own.

gt1 mini (normal android), gt1 mini-a (androidtv) can play astrogo.. these are official naming conventions as per beelink official page

i wud say there are 4 categories of boxes that can do astro go:

1. those on official/original firmware that can install direct from playstore, auto update.

2. those on official/original firmware that require sideload, manual update for new apk version.

3. those on official/original firmware that require root closing (and modified apk sideload).

4. those that require diff/customized firmware, root hiding/closing (and modified apk sideload).

buyers should know what they are buying.

i was disappointed as well.. i like the atv interface.. i like it more than normal android interface.. but wat to do?? nowadays it seems like running aotg is necessity.. for me it still better to modify the box than the apk of aotg.. as not only that, with modified box u can also play playtv@unifi channels without any problem.. what I heard is the playtv@unifi app also a root conscious app..

Is there a device which can install AstroGo from play store ? I haven't come across any which can do that. Maybe last time can. Or the Astro's own STB can ?

There is always this MiBox which we know, which can sideload, but needs screen rotation software to turn things to landscape. LOL.
