Is there a device which can install AstroGo from play store ? I haven't come across any which can do that. Maybe last time can. Or the Astro's own STB can ?

There is always this MiBox which we know, which can sideload, but needs screen rotation software to turn things to landscape. LOL.

not u lah.. the message is intended for other people.. lol..

i was disappointed as well.. i like the atv interface.. i like it more than normal android interface.. but wat to do?? nowadays it seems like running aotg is necessity.. for me it still better to modify the box than the apk of aotg.. as not only that, with modified box u can also play playtv@unifi channels without any problem.. what I heard is the playtv@unifi app also a root conscious app..

yes, my exp... a box that can do astrog go will be able to do hbo go and playtv@unifi (on wifi).

astro go is a good app - stable, reliable, correct aspect ratio, and HD (for HD channels).

beats the shit out of all other free apps, imo!

Likely playstore detect safetynet and therefore boxes which are rooted automatically disqualified from downloading AstroGo.

rooted sure cannot.
some unrooted, can "install" but it will not play.
like we discussed before, it is not just a simple "root" or unroot issue.... likely multiple checks.

himedia q10pro is unrooted, but failed to work in the beginning.
it was only after a certain firmware change that it worked, install direct from playstore.
what i read, firmware was fixed not only for astro but for similar iptv apps in thailand, vietnam, europe.
so, i think there is something in the firmware that box makers need to fix... and few bother or can do.

I would like to believe that unroot box cannot play are likely for those old boxes running badly crippled DRM library.

note some new unrooted or closed root boxes like the tanix'es - need to use modified apk; official will "install" but will not play.

root is not the only barrier, i believe.

I can't remember it is it after or before unroot can see the aotg in playstore.. potentially the build.prop matches smartphones/tablets that compatible with aotg..

I know for sure they also detect SuperSu.apk, ie anything which carries the word 'su'. They might go to some folders to check for unused apk which has something to do with 'su'. So possibly some boxes did not unroot cleanly.

whatever it is, it is good now that a good no. of boxes are now able to do astrogo.

as discussed in tanix thread, one can get free id/pw, a few free channels... then buy 30 or 60 days pass for certain live events and certains channels.

this is good but i wish they go all the way and let users buy full package, e.g. movie or chinese or learning pack(s).

that way, if cheap enough, everyone can dump the decoder! biggrin.gif

as for ATV, there is no sign they care... no version is TV friendly with just remote... need mouse to navigate.

Can reverse engineer the apk and add easy navigation using remote. Theoretically doable but require indepth programming skills.

That stupid AstroGo beta apk cannot even allow one to logout without using mouse. That's how stupid it is.

Iflix is very good.. auto detect base on your OS.. no need to go download separate version for normal android or for androidtv.. same iflix apk, if you install on normal android box, you have smartphone base navigation which requires mouse.. installed it on androidtv base, will become remote only iflix.. install on hypptv box, then become remote friendly iflix.. maybe astro can learn from iflix.. they complained that everyday they are losing customers, yet they did not something simple as make sure your apps/channels available and compatible with a lot of devices..

I have looked at their code, actually they hard coded the behaviour for certain boxes such as hypptv. By right, a hypptv is equivalent to a phone, and hence must have the phone behaviour. They have a list of devices which they call it as STB, and then granted them ATV behaviour.

I hacked their app so that it also works for me when I run tv box in normal android, ie to give me the ATV behaviour. But then the movie image is just too small on the large screen TV. It's not perfect.

The whole issue on root thing might change with the new beta. Because the beta is not particularly about root.
*
yes, and hope so!

this astrogo beta seems more friendly, no problem installing as it is in all my boxes.

there is now v2.192.5... online update was fine too.

but this version is still buggy - voice lag, wrong aspect ratio for some channels.... some way to go.

Your phone and battery is anytime more previous than the tv box. And the energy consumption please calculate it. Is the phone able to play with screen off ?

there is one major disadvantage with that.

the picture will not be full screen, get black borders on the tv.
