Hi guys,

I am looking for a 20" folding bike (mainly for exercise/touring), but emphasizing on speed as well. Currently, i am considering
bike below 2k,

1) Tern B7 or C8
2) Java Fit or Java Pro 5
3) Giant Espressway 1

Any suggestions? Thank you in advance guys.
*
You want speed? Tern eclipse x20

Oh below rm2k.... Java Ira

kthxbye

Wanted to check is it possible to upgrade a v brake system to mechanical disk brake system on a folding bike?
Note: the frame does not have the hub mount..
*
would be cheaper to get a new bike with disc instead

if upgrading, aside from the caliper mounts (which will require a frame change), u also need to change your hub (to accomodate the rotor), the spokes as disc hubs are usually larger than normal hubs, thus requiring shorter spokes,

then u need to think about the rotor cost, the masterpump & brake lever

in the end, all this will be costly, and it'd be more economical to just buy a new bike

and btw, what's the reason to change to disc? good rim brakes are very good. u can ask azam and see why all his high end foldies are using rim brakes instead of disc. he can well afford the cost, but he still choose rim brakes laugh.gif

if you only riding 4-5 rounds around taman, why get Java Ira which have chromoly frame + carbon fork?  you can settle for something cheaper,  biggrin.gif

kenda 451 tyre isnt expensive i believe, guess u can just mantain 451 system
*
Thank for your recommendation. Actually I was looking for cheaper one, but I get quite good price for that. I read a good recommendation for Java Ira from this forum, and the color looks nice too biggrin.gif. I think Taman TAR in Ampang have a decent track for my cardio. I can get around 15km for 5 rounds.

Ira is quite a worthy foldie actually, chromoly frame with carbon fork for less than rm2k even tern/Dahon don't offer such package at this price.

just that riding in Taman alone is not maximising the value only. As long as you're happy with the Bicycle, peduli apa orang kata.

what tires size do u all prefer? is there any big difference in terms of tires size?

currently stock tires is 20"406 x 1.75. Does using smaller width will result in better ride? faster? smoother rolling? Thinking of trying 1.5 or 1.35 tires.

currently using square taper crankset , is hollowtech system a lot much better? saw a lot ppl using hollowtech system crankset now, like litepro hollowtech.
*
im interested to know this as well. i find that many entry level folding including mine is using square taper. maybe is cheaper cost?

my current crankset is square taper with 170mm crank arm and 48t single chain ring. looking to change hollowtech too. and use a little big bigger chain ring. tongue.gif

It was said that chromoly is stiffer than alloy and hence better efficiency in energy transfer, less energy loss in the long run from joints twisting with every pedal stroke.

Meanwhile carbon forks can absorb road vibes better than alloy/steel forks so less numbness to the palm and wrists

Anyway for a regular taman rider we won't be able to notice the difference immediately lah. Just buy whichever you fancy and pedal away.

Unless if you have intention to do serious mileages, then only we pay attention to different type of foldies and pricing

Hi,

after long searching through the old entries, and also searching in the youtube and internet, I can notice that there are many information for the bikes >1000 RM.
However for the low end price level, I cannot find clear enough suggestion, thus I dare myself to write my first post.

Would you mind give recommendation for the lower price segment folding bikes? icon_question.gif
Really no other expectation, just folding bike with gears (no single speed), for short riding in the street and park.

Any suggestion on what brand might be the best value for the following price ranges?

Price level < 500 RM
- I could find the following brand: Oscar Vogue, and Mongoose. Other china direct selling in Lazada I don't want to include.

Price level 500 - 1000 RM
- I could only find certain type from Crossmac

Thank you very much. biggrin.gif

nowdays, all price are going high!
low stock supply, but demand are very high. i do remember last time trinx ka2016 or 2016d is priced around rm600-800 but now used bike is rm800. even java TT is around rm600 and now is rm1.1k

following the market trend right now as for ur daring question, i cant suggest anything within ur price. but i could recomended few brand that i know

Price level < 500 RM
try to find oscar vogue, so far the clamp are better than most brand within this budget

Price level 500 - 1000 RM
crossmax also good, only the package groupset are so so. while raleight calypso (bodwalk look alike) last time is around RM800, but now i heard is rm1.1k. brand like trinx, xds, java if u can find within these range i could be nice

if i were u and dont mind used bike,
i'll wait till oct until dec. saw many buying bike as a trend ad monotorium from the banks leaves some people got a lot of money. i dont think cycling lifestyle will be forever for trending follower.

lets hope we can get cheap quality bike for a jackpot price!
