If you are small fish no one gonna bother you. KYC no big deal.
Big fish has their "own way" to get undetected.
The biggest fish can get or give donations. tongue.gif

With KYC at least it will be a deterrent for people who has bad intent of abusing crypto currencies.

if that's your concern then should be no problem.
i'm speaking in behalf of the goal of this technology, anonymity and decentralization.
supporting this means dropping the idea of bitcoin and other crypto itself. which i'm depressed about.

Likely mean they are not in compliance with bnm guideline e.g forex. Hence Maybank compliance department is reluctant to give green light.

Stakeholders may be should request luno to pay to their bank account directly by tt rather than have their funds stuck indefinitely.

Actually we've always had stringent AML/KYC policies so from our perspective -- we have been playing by the rules. Anyway, our higher management continues to engage with Maybank to resolve this asap.

Actually, we think the guideline issued is a positive step. Though it stops short of "regulation," but at least it gives some guidelines. Agreed that KYC/AML procedures will not trouble normal retail investors. We have been doing it since much earlier also.

haha.. even Luno has been doing this since much earlier but is still being selected and it has been 3 months the issue remains unresolved.

If mentioned KYC/AML guidelines are the main concern, IRB/Maybank should have released the account... So I believe there is other non-compliance issue such as no submission of annual return, tax return or whatever....

Update - This week, Bank Negara (BNM) issued a policy document around reporting requirements for digital currency exchanges (http://www.bnm.gov.my/index.php?ch=en_press&pg=en_press&ac=4628). This is a new and positive development in our view and Maybank is considering this in light of our account.

Luno has been working with BNM to formulate these requirements, and Maybank is aware of this. We hope the reporting requirements provide Maybank with clarity on how we move forward together.

We have been in touch with them following this policy release and are also talking to other banks in parallel. Rest assured, we are making progress overall.

Hi Eric, after checking -- our customer support team are waiting for your reply (email sent on 15th Feb). They have resent you another one today. (Please check your spam folders if you can't find it?) Thanks.
Hi, unfortunately all I know right now is the internal decision is within the bank. But our senior management continues to chase them hard for the reopening. Understand the wait has been terribly long. We are sorry, and will continue to chase this.

Hi Aaron. If this is the case, and you said all other exchanges already started operating again. Why cant Luno just open another account, let say CIMB and use that as a medium for people to transfer money in and out Luno. I believe with over 40 countries in operation, Luno has millions of capital to open a new bank account. So u can now run Luno exchange like normal while chasing bank to unfreeze your Maybank account.

After all, even after Maybank unfreeze the account, it would be handy if Luno has 2 account for more efficient transfer to CIMB and Maybank user.

Or, could it be, this doesnt happen, because Luno no longer has the money to operate?

Why is this Bank Negara's problem? It's Luno vs Maybank right?

Yesterday, only Maybank was grabbing Luno by the balls.

Today, both BNM + Maybank are grabbing Luno by the balls.

Tomorrow, 1MDB + BNM + Maybank will be grabbing Luno by the balls.

Next month, NASA + RSPCA + 1MDB + BNM + Maybank will all be grabbing Luno's balls.

When is this sh*t going to end? We are being taken for a ride. I would be surprised if I received my withdrawal in the next 90 days.

Localbitcoins and Remitano doesn't support buying and selling ripple. Anyone knows how can I buy Ripple in MYR?

The reason I wanted to use XRP is because their fees are very low as compared to BTC and ETH.

The country is not a problem, the government is. Government should be a small government with less regulations. We will face more problems with a socialist government.

As long as withdrawal is frozen, luno could roll the funds for free.

I truly believe Luno can’t access the money and therefore can’t roll it.

However, if I owe you money but I can’t pay you because someone else is interfering with my finances, it’s not your damn problem right? It’s still my responsibility to pay you, regardless if my pet dog or dead grandfather is holding my money.

Luno is likely to have repatriated available funds to London or wherever daily. Amount frozen at Maybank is likely small.

As far as we're concerned, we have always been transparent and played by the rules with authorities and the bank. Hence, it is very frustrating for us as well. sad.gif

We will continue to chase for this with Maybank. However, as per our latest status message -- we are also talking to other banks in parallel.

Hi wildan,

Yes, as per our latest status message, we are already talking to other banks in parallel. It would be great if we had multiple bank accounts to transfer as you mentioned. However as this is a really new industry (and perhaps the banks are very cautious too), it is taking a while. Thanks a lot for the suggestion.

All customer funds remain safe in the Maybank account. We would never do something like this. (Actually hypothetically speaking, Malaysia has strict capital controls so even another foreign company who might want to do this wouldn't be able to.)

You can sell but you can't withdraw fiat (MYR).
