Budget 2017. To recap, the authority has proposed; (i) fixed line broadband service providers to offer services at a higher speed for the same price, effective January 2017, (ii) the said package’s speed will be doubled with the reduction in prices by 50% within the next two years, (iii) MCMC to provide RM1b to ensure the coverage and quality of broadband nationwide reaches up to 20 Mbps.

Haha, but more people will be interested to "downgrade" to get cheaper 5~10Mbps or quota-based package if available!

Is there an urgency for a confirmation? It is not happening now but by October or delay to year-end or next year.
Just wait and see lah, take it easy, treat it a bonus (as Govt's commitment is by 2019). We are just the white rats (for TM to start implementing another upgrade nationwide) and just hope the free upgrade will be successful and not troublesome. Then we share our experience here.

Well... I'm just afraid it will be like the Thank you surprise which I regret a lot that I missed. After certain period they no longer give free upgrade. I don't feel like missing this again if it is still eligible.

If you are paying >RM110(+GST) for streamyx, no brainer, migrate to Unifi Lite now (free upgrade is not really the main factor).
You enjoy better service immediately after migration and still paying more or less the same.
Only those paying RM68-RM88(+GST) may hesitate!

Sigh. That's the problem. I'm all in for unifi. But my sister (who share the internet with me and have control of the account) are very concerned with little money like what installation fee.. So need slightly more bargaining chip here to convince. If same price and same speed (for me it's 149 8mbit bb with free calls now. Unifi lite is exactly the same) she will ajiazo.

Anyway I'll go TM point later to ask for more info. But experience tell me I'll be greeted with face of ignorance lol

Installation fees is free but you just lost the free nationwide calls only from steamyx RM111 for the cheapest package of RM129++.

Look into the following factors:-
[1] Installation (FTTH): Around RM200 more or less for landed (standard size terrace/SemiD), one-time investment only, if FTTH, you can easily upgrade to 1Gbps in the future! You can opt for free installation but I don't encourage.
[2] If you don't really use voice calls, go for RM129+GST (RM136.75) and voice call will be charged at 10 sen per 30 seconds.
Your Streamyx (RM149 inclusive of GST?): Free calls to TM Fixed line numbers only, call to mobile or other fixed line numbers are not free!
If you add on Unifi STD20 RM20 (So Total RM149+GST): Free 600 minutes calls to all networks including Maxis, Celcom, Digi, Time, then Calls to TM numbers are always free.
[3] No HyppTV box for Unifi Lite!
[4] Sooner or later TM will terminate Streamyx and remove copper network, you still have to migrate to FTTH. It is just a matter of time.
[5] Free speed upgrade and Price cut will happen for FTTH, as the implementation and maintenance cost is cheaper. Streamyx/ADSL has reached its limitations.
[6] Unifi Lite FTTH: Itemised billing and Caller Line Identification Presentation are free (a few RM for Streamyx).
[7] TM will give you 3700 rewards points, you can convert it to a rebate (worth RM37).

At TM Point, I was greeted by a face of lies...was told that the Unifi Lite offer had ended, and that my area could only get Unifi 30mbps at RM179. I declined.
A hard-working agent got me Unifi Lite with ease and speed. If I get upgraded to 30mbps, I may return to TM Point to smirk again at that lying hooded cow. I'd already gone back after installation to correct a typo in my billing address, and grinned at her like the Cheshire cat biggrin.gif

Unifi Lite isn't exactly the same as 8mbps. If your area can get the fiber optic version of the service, you may wish to tell your sister that voice calls sound crisp, clean with no hissing noises when compared to a copper phone line. The downside is that you'll have to leave the silver box (commonly called the BTU) on all the time for your house phone to work, and it uses your electricity, not Telekom's.

I was paying 149 for VIP 5. Went to downgrade my pricing to 129 for VIP 10 last week Friday.

I'm not sure if I'll be getting the free upgrade to 30mpbs?

That will be against me in my fight to get Unifi Lite vs my streamyx BB now sad.gif
I can see her saying this now: "See? same speed why need sidegrade to unifi and pay for the extra electricity?"

Anyway update to my TMpoint visit: exactly as I expected. "Oh we have no info on this. We will confirm you and call you back today when we got info ok?" then till now no call... Great service as always from our beloved monopoly TM.

both using the same fibre cable, unless you using copper cable. you just need to inform them to upgrade your package when you needed it (they will adjust on their site). icon_idea.gif

Only Kuching and Miri users reported receiving the free upgrade sms till now. I believe TM will upgrade other customers in phases.
