2 days ago, there is Windows Vista retail download links posted on some forums. That seems pretty normal as there are people kept on uploading whenever Rapidshare removes them.

yes. those are direct retail links from one of microsoft's online retailer but u would still need to activate with a legitimate key. if not after 30 days. EXPIRED. rclxub.gif

i just got my new laptop Lenovo Y400 28A preloaded with Vista Home Basic.

Problem found:
1. Unable to play DVD movie.
2. Can't detect my WIFI access point
3. A lot of program are not running well

For this, i already decided to get back to Windows XP.
but i search through MS web and found that there is no downgrade right for Vista Home. it's such a waste to have preloaded OS which is almost useless.

Anybody can tell me how to do?

If i'm not wrong, go to settings, than preferences
select videos -> than to output modules (check the advanced options)
select the video output module to OPENGL video output.

than click DirectX under output modules and uncheck "Use Hardware YUV -> RGB conversions"

Windows Vista WPI has inconsistencies in giving scores to hardware performance.

Just take a look at what I meant.

I am using Biostar GeForce 6800XT 128MiB GDDR2 AGP 8X card. GDRAM bus width 256-bit, installed Forceware version 100.65.

Isn't that odd? The score was 2.7 - Aero, and 3.9 for 3D graphics/gaming with default Vista WDDM driver. I played many 3D games and haven't found any oddities (slow load, jerky graphics, etc.) when playing.

Yeap. THX CLOVER.MY, that fixed the prob biggrin.gif

Regarding the Vista WPI, note that the score is low probably because microsoft is afiliated with hardware companies.... thus the score is always lower because they want you to buy newer hardware =.=

Why would u play .avi in ur real player. The reason ppl download K-Lite Mega pack is they dun wan to use real player. Thus installing Mega pack uses real alternatif. Real sucks imho. Full of advert sh!t

No la, you can still play RM and RMVB files even if you don't install MPC. MPC is just a stripped down and lighter version of WMP. You just need the Real Alternative codec installed to make RM and RMVB files run. Don't believe me? Drag RM files into your WMP and it can play just fine. doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif

I have this problem once. It seems that my graphic drivers and codecs are conflicting with a background process. I forgot what process that was as it was not a Microsoft but a 3rd party process. I reinstalled the codecs and the graphic drivers and it works after that.

doh.gif doh.gif doh.gif Home basic IS useless. You basically need Home Premium. Who in the right mind buys Home Basic?
and what do you mean from "there is no downgrade right for Vista Home". Either you grammar is wrong or my eyes is deceiving me

Care to elaborate? I dun really understand linkinstreet. What i interpreted is reinstalling the same codec pack and same graphic driver. But dun that result in the same conflicting that u mentioned rclxub.gif rclxub.gif . FYI, I'm using K-lte mega codec ver 1.71(latest) and my graphic driver is up to date.

Is it true? Can play Rm or rmvb in WMP 11 ah? Never try that b4.. How's the quality then? Same with WMP Classic?

I dun think so that Home Basic is useless. It's cheaper compare to Home Premium. Only that it left out WMC. All the aero function can be tweak to be use on Home Basic anyway. And err if u would wan Parental Control... sweat.gif

Thanks for your comment.
The home basic is "preloaded" with the Laptop as i mentioned. Not my choice.

"Downgrade rights are an end-user right and are documented in the product end-user license agreement (EULA) and refer to the ability of your customers to acquire the most recent version of Microsoft(R) software but continue to run a previous version until they are ready to upgrade."

You can refer to the following or find it from Microsoft.
http://www.nor-tech.com/vista/vistadowngraderights.htm

Well, i'm not a english educated guy, maybe some of my grammer are wrong!
So beside checking on my grammer mistake, anybody else got experience can help on how to switch back to XP? i think i got no choice but to give up the vista license.

the only thing that I didn't understood in that sentence was "there is no downgrade right for Vista Home". If you left the "right", it would have made sense as Vista Home Basic is the lowest spec. And you didn't ask for an upgrade for Home Premium?
Home Basic is more than just no Aero. Multimedia and network support are limited. and it's just an entry Vista for first time users who want to do office work only

As it uses the same codec pack, yes, it will be the same. Heck. I rather use WMP when playing FLV as MPC don't have loop function.....
