QUOTE Forwarded Message Dated: Wed Apr 04, 2007 2:41 am Subject: vista wont boot after installing todays update! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I installed the update released today (4/3/07) (I don't know what the update number is, sorry) After I installed the update and finished what I was working on I restarted my computer. When I try to boot into vista I get an error. It says that this driver is corrupt: \Windows\system32\drivers\wdf01000.sys The error status is: 0xc0000221 It tells me to put in my install disk and do a system repair. I tired that masny times in many different ways but it didn't help. System repair said it cannot repair the file due to error: 0x246 I do not know if the problem is from the update or not, but I think it is, because when the update installed it got an error. I was not worried about it though because when I looked at the details of the error they did not seem to be anything that would affect my system, just the update. If anyone knows how I could repair the problem please let me know. Would replacing the "corrupt" driver with one from someone else's computer work? And if so, could someone send me their wdf01000.sys file? (I can replace mine by booting into XP, which is how I am able to use my computer now) thanks for the help! Here's what i got out from the latest Kb released: Security Update for Windows Vista for x32/x64 -based Systems (KB925902) Download size: 1.8 MB You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect. Update type: Important A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Anyone has problems with this Kb?? On the computer running Windows XP, check the workgroup name and then compare it to the workgroup name on the computers running Windows Vista. If the workgroup names don't match, change the names so that all of the computers on the network have the same workgroup name. To check or change the workgroup name on a computer running Windows XP 1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. 2. Click the Computer Name tab. The workgroup name is displayed. To change the workgroup name, click Change. To check or change the workgroup name on a computer running Windows Vista . ya..most prob is the gc driver conflict..did your aero initialize..ati has some compatibility issues with vista for the moment...but the problem has been prioritized ...
some of the issues are due to down to a bug in the ATI/AMD (yes..they are the same company now..) OpenGL drivers.. meantime u can download this kb: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932246/en-us download latest ati catalyst vista drivers!! http://ati.amd.com/technology/windowsvista/index.html This post has been edited by wewa25: Apr 5 2007, 06:13 PM |

QUOTE(underworld @ Apr 10 2007, 10:24 AM) im using vista home premium, izzit possible to hav the wallpaper with the clock and calendar as a screensaver whn the computer is not in use (standby)?? lol..sound like handphone...Added on April 10, 2007, 2:09 pmFORCE slow USB drives to work with READYBOOST in VISTA , best tweak yet!! Windows ReadyBoost is a great technology, caching things on USB drives to improve system performance, but Windows Vista insists on checking the drives for certain speed requirements before enabling the feature. If you have a USB drive that is just a hair to slow to beat the test, or you want to use an external hard drive (slower speed, loads of cache space), Matt Rajca posts at Channel 9 how you can force Vista to let you use ReadyBoost on an unsupported device, whether it wants to or not: 1. Plug in the device. 2. Open the Readyboost tab on the device properties. 3. Select "Do not retest this device" 4. Unplug the device 5. Open regedit (start->run->regedit) 6. Expand - HKLM (Local Machine)->SOFTWARE->Microsoft->Windows NT->CurrentVersion->EMDgmt 7. Find your device. (decimal not hexadecimal) 8. Change Device Status to 2 9. Change ReadSpeedKBs to 1000 10. Change WriteSpeedKBs to 1000 11. Plug in the device. 12. Enable Readyboost!!!! Added on April 10, 2007, 2:10 pmcredit me or that Matt fella..or else..ur readyboost will destroy ur house!! lol note: only 1 device at a time...
