Windows Vista WPI has inconsistencies in giving scores to hardware performance.

Just take a look at what I meant.

I am using Biostar GeForce 6800XT 128MiB GDDR2 AGP 8X card. GDRAM bus width 256-bit, installed Forceware version 100.65.

Isn't that odd? The score was 2.7 - Aero, and 3.9 for 3D graphics/gaming with default Vista WDDM driver. I played many 3D games and haven't found any oddities (slow load, jerky graphics, etc.) when playing.

I don't know if any of you actually notice, that the point of discussion, is to make things better, fix things up, patch, give tips and tricks on how to solve problems.

If you don't like Vista outlook, don't try it in the first place.

Please be more constructive by providing ways/suggestions/tips to make you Vista computing more fun and enjoyable.

I have been using Vista for two months, sure I encounter problems, but when I found the solutions on the Net that works or at least get me where I need to go, I feel the fun and enjoying the time fixing up things.

BTW, do you have problem with Secondlife not running on Vista, here is a tip. Upgrade your video driver to the latest (beta even), and make sure your card is listed in the compatibility list. Hehe, sincerely your Secondlife buddy, Najimi Kohime.

lol...Article with Microsoft stated then it uses MS ...vista then it uses ME II ..like an amateur's article... but nevertheless if you choose to believe the article then i can safely say that please don't install Vista to ur notebook or pc.

Coz according to this article ME II is cr@p, MS is cheating ur money. So please i beg you all to use either Win98SE or WinXP Pro SP2. Dun use Vista. Vista veri slow wan, useless, no security, no driver, no compability, install office 95 also hang... notworthy.gif  thankyou notworthy.gif

As for those who do not believe in this article. Then you are welcome to install Vista provided you have the required Specs and knowledge on how it works as there IS defference with Windows XP thumbup.gif

Already installed la, u sudah makan nasi belum?
U sudah install Vista belum? if Vista dies on you, there is only one meaning, the big N.

Btw, you still use Office 97 and below, lame punya la. Vista is meant for newer generation application. You want to play with old things, that's your choice. Anyways, you can always opt for whatever OS you're comfortable with. IDC.

Cakap takde bukti, memang berbakat jadi wartawan The Inquirer. Send them your resume la.

IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor) performance is greatly affected by the amount system RAM. Good, finally you add more RAM for you IGP to work faster. Congratulation, you officially understand what a modern PC wants. RAM..

I just updated my Windows Experience Index. Now my windows are half opaque and the way they appear is different. Why is that so?
*
Please tell us what hardware index changes, drivers that you updated, and of course the past score and the current score, screenshot if possible.

Previously it was unrated with a base score of 1.0 because i just setup the whole rig. I figured out how to solve the opaque windows but i want to change the way windows appear to the old way. Now whenever i select a windows that were previously minimise, it expands from the taskbar while i would like it to just appear straight.

That's the feature of full Aero Glass, unfortunately, the Personalization control panel only allow you to change transparency/color scheme and some limited window properties.
Choose Vista Basic or Windows Classic interface if you like the "old" window behavior.

There is a site that could help you tweak Aero and Vista stuff, e.g. Shitf-key animation.

Hey there, is he/she using the default WDDM driver or the GPU maker's supplied driver, tell us the GC he/she is using, on what motherboard (AGP/PCI-e)?

Then we can help you better.

Yeah, when the screen blinks? When playing game? when loading game, when closing the games?

Dreamscene access disk and memory at most of the time. It is advisable to stop DreamScene if you want to play game.

vista Home Pre or Ultimate better ?
*
Dude, there is no "better" in this equation. Vista's editions are tailored to your type of usage, type of computer user and your environment. In fact, those editions have the same exact installer.

If your usage is limited home/family/entertainment usage only, Vista Home Premium is the best at cost and functionality.

If you are an uber geek who use PC alone, for production/business/entertainment, Vista Ultimate is your edition.

It really depends on what you want - you want for both connectivity with domain server, advance backup and recovery tools, home entertainment features, and the in-famous Dream Scene - then go Ultimate.

An example of uber geek that use Windows Vista Ultimate, heh, no harm done.

but norton partition magic is the old version 1, not sure weather will have some incompatible issue running on vista...
*
PM 8 has incompatibilities with Vista, i.e you cannot resize the system volume (PM doesn't support BCD, Vista new bootloader) and you may failed the installation if you do not run the program as an Administrator. Other incompatibilities, check Norton's website.

PM lower than version 8.01 are not compatible at ALL.

^ for a normal human with healthy eyes, anything above 30fps is smooth, I just don't get the hype of getting 60fps in a game?

Are gamers bunch of perfectionist robots?

I'm not expert in comparing between Vista x32 vs x64 but based on some reading, there are reviews which said that x64 is much safer / less threat. The reason is becoz most of the virus makers / hackers create their virus based on 32 bit architecture. Of course there are virus in 64 bit environment but not as many as 32 bit environment.

BTW, i dunno whether this can be categorised as distinctive difference btw those two..
*
That is true but Windows will always have the WOW (Windows on Windows) emulator, means 32-bit application can run on 64-bit OS, and 16-bit application can run on a 32-bit OS (not the other way around though).

Changing the API calls to 64-bit length helps reduce the infection of 32-bit viruses because it will be run under emulated environment. With the future hardware virtualization i.e. V-Tech and AMD-V in new 64-bit CPUs, virtually all applications will run in a virtualized environment, including the host OS. This prevent direct attack to the host OS.

One of the features that current releases of Windows support is the No eXecute feature of most 64-bit CPU.
This prevent data section from being a port to launch attack to system protected calls. All 64-bit OS has support for 64-bit CPU NX instructions - even though current Windows XP SP2 and most Linux-based OS has the support too.

Bro, is there anyway to use DX9 environment under Vista?? DX10 is very demanding and I wish to revert to DX9 for certain games. Please advise. smile.gif
*
that depends on the game - I think you can choose to launch it on DX9 setting and DX10 setting vice versa. refer the game manual for that...
