If you are using reputable courier service like DHL & FedEx, they have their clearance channel with officers working along with the custom officers. So it will be faster & easier for custom clearance and if the shipment required duty or tax, they will call to inform you to get your consent to clear the shipment and you will pay when you receive it. I have visited FedEx in Penang cargo clearance, so feel better confidence with FedEx.

Need some help. My friend shipped my some used dolls and accesories for my daughter from USA. Came in quite a big box 18"x13"x13". I paid shipping about rm250 thru vpost (a s'pore company). I declared the dolls as usd30 although it was free because the courier company said i had to put in a value.

The box is now held up at custom Butterworth. I need to go there to clear the custom duties. Can someone help educate me if my items are taxable?

For most items, if you declare it as personal item and total value under Rm500 (including shipping), then it is tax free.
Otherwise, it is subject to whatever tariff that it can be.. anywhere between 10% to 45% of the total value.

Did the pos malaysia send you a letter, if yes you can fill on the letter and fax back to them and wait for their call.

They will inform you to collect it at the pos office that near you shipping location.

Thanks all for the advice. Went to butterworth custom this morning. Didnt pay any tax cause the toys look used and below rm500. And i can confirm that anything below rm500 (including shipping) for personal use is not taxable based on the chop they stamped on the document. I didnt quite remember under which section of the Custom Act it stated but i will try to find out.

is RM200 including shipping/ insurance etc? Sometimes even if it's below RM500 you could still get taxed IF the stuff you're bringing in is taxable. I think jersey and shirt falls under the fabric and textile section where can get taxed between 30%-45% because that happen to me before when I brought in some shirts and blankets sad.gif

Adult toys...vibrators...dildo...etc. Most likely will be confiscated as it falls under the category Bahan Lucah if buy directly from overseas. One way to get avoid chance of customs inspection if you can get a friend from say...Singapore to buy what you want and ask your friend to post from JB whistling.gif

I was told by a customs officer that hp do need to get approval from sirim but it all base on their so call budi bicara. If you're lucky to get a nice custom officer he could let go without needing to go through sirim. Just say is for your own personal use and good communication skill is helpful when dealing with them customs ppl laugh.gif

Hi guys,

I bought a robotic kit from a US company, cost about USD 780. The manufacturer will put the item description as "Parts of Toys". Should I ask them to change to something else?

It's for research and supposely can be consider as educational material? It consist of servos, aluminiums, screws, battery, etc. How can I avoid it?

Btw, this kit is not available in Msia or within Asean region. Only available from US.

anyway, do i need to apply SIRIM for faulty phone? hmm.gif
if there is two different models inside a parcel, do i need to apply two SIRIM(RM2XX + RM2XX) for both phones instead of one SIRIM(RM2XX only)?

hope someone can clear my doubt, thanks.

Go to the custom first. See whether you have to apply SIRIM or not.

Hi...I know how you feel but bear in mind that as long the shipping method is non trackable (normal airmail) there is nothing you can do but wait. If the item is held by customs you will get a letter stating that you need to go clear with them or appoint an agent or post office to do for you. If you did not received anything then your item has not arrived in Malaysia yet...could be lost or still in transit. NExt time it is most advisable that you at least request the seller to use registered post/ confirmed delivery where got tracking but is less expensive than Express shipping. However this is also dependable on the weight of item.

...And if the item cost below RM500 (including any insurance plus shipping) usually it will not get taxed.

Dear Sir,

I'm interested to import 30~1000pcs of electronics product(such as RAM, Flash Drive etc..) from China, Hong Kong, and Singapore. This my first time to import goods from Foreign Countries, I'm still blur on it. T.T~~

Please guild me whether its subject to any import tax?? Usually the export tax take on by who?? And did I able to check the tariff rate and exemptions item from any other website? There have many acts and regulations regarding custom duties in custom website, I dun know which acts are useful for me.

Forget one thing, does it has any difference by the way of courier or shipping?? (I'm from Sabah, Sandakan)

Your kindly reply would be appreciated. Thanks ya!!
