anything below RM200 is not taxable irrespective of items unless it is a prohibited material which is another story....search for vitamin in this post and you would learn more.. icon_rolleyes.gif

The thing is, the total of my goods would worth about RM800+.. Hehe. I've tried to go into the malaysian custom website but it keeps hanging my Firefox sweat.gif
Instead, I found this, I'm not sure if it's the same. I searched under 210690800 - food supplements, it says 0%, vitamins which are under 2936 sub headings are also 0%. But I've read somewhere in this thread saying that food supplements are taxable, while vitamins are not..
So confusing rclxub.gif

Added on December 30, 2009, 12:14 pmAnyone can help me? For a total worth supplements + shipping + insurance of RM800+, how should I declare my item? I'm actually importing herbal supplements..

Hi everyone, I am planning to buy some emu oil from Australia on ebay. Ran a check on the customs website and saw that for "Other animal oils and fats (including neat's- foot oil and fats from bones or waste) ", there was a prohibition on import stating "That the import is accompanied by an import permit issued by or on behalf of the Director General of Veterinary Services under the Animal Act 1953 (Revised 2006) "

Do I need this permit if I'm only buying 1 bottle (250ml)? hmm.gif
Thanks!!!

guys, pls check on the Customs website for their Import Prohibition List whereby it is stated clearly all necessary agency clearances before you can bring your items in....pls don't be in the dark about this important matter....

as for the tax issue, you can ask always ask Pos M'sia Unit Perkastaman to help lower your taxes as they are not custom officers but are private sector people who can negotiate with you...

Does your answer mean that even 1 personal item, not bought in bulk, also need the permit? My item costs less than RM100. Can I declare as gift?

Added on December 31, 2009, 8:54 amI only found this: restriction of imports, but no procedures stated there.. anyone care to explain?

no...under the law, only electrical appliances powered by AC 240V is required to apply for the import permit but like i said in my earlier posting, the Customs Officer would waive this rule whereby they are only interested in collecting the import duties... icon_rolleyes.gif

your idea would phailed miserably, trust me. even if you asked the seller to smash the phone into bits/dunk it into the toilet bowl/feed it to the dog before it was posted out, if it's a phone, kastam will definately ask you to obtain a SIRIM AP and afterward tax you 10%
yes, it will be "tahan-ed". kastam will call you up and ask you to come personally to collect your phone from POS LCCT. you'll need to open the parcel in front of the OIC for inspection. afterward, they'll hand you a form that you need to bring along to SIRIM Shah Alam. it'll cost you RM200 and 3~4 waiting days to obtain your AP. once the AP is ready, you'll have to collect it from SIRIM and head back to LCCT for clearance. they will tax 10% of the item cost. the grand total that you have to fork out (minus the hassle of travelling like a mad dog + waste of petrol and time) is :-

RM200 (~SIRIM AP) + RM100 (~10% Tax of USD300) = RM300+/-

Thanks for the answer, omg, import a mobile phone also hard, saw the mobile phone at amazon so cheap, if custom want to charge this charge that then I better don't buy, save those duty taxes.

you probably can, just make sure the item posted is mark as gift, as small as can.
and the documents thingy, provide sufficient information. sometime it'll go thru (based on my experience),

other than that, you can also minimize the hardwork if you appoint or ask amazon or the seller to send the item using DHL, FEDEX. got several item passed. they're good in handling custom documents. but not sure if it'll work on u.

and one more thing, you can also ask for other LYN-ers help that offering amazon/US based website ordering service. they can arranged it and get it delivered safely.

That did work on me. Once I bought IR leds from ebay. The seller shipped to me in a small envelope marked as gift. Custom opened and sealed back and stamped "Dilepaskan oleh/dari kastam".

Hi corallinkz,

Thanks for the reply, i noticed your 2nd sentence, "got several item passed", means that even we use Fedex and mark the item as gift, it still have the chance get caught by custom? Mind to share your experience with me?

Thank you
