Is it on the spot replacement and how long is the wait?
*
On the spot. I think less than 10min?
Told the guy at counter about the problem, and take out the router and show pdf receipt.
Guy check if they have ready stock at the backroom, replacement power on test, some barcode scan here and there and thats it.

I'm looking to upgrade my router too, hence the interest in mesh wifi. May I know why you are using the unifi D-Link router instead of connecting the modem to the X20?
*
Well, reason number 1 is I tried connecting X20 straight to the modem and it didnt work for me. Havent try again with different setting though.

Second reason that prevents me from trying again is, if I replace the current unifi router then all other home appliances that already have connection to my unifi router wifi credentials need to re-setup. I'm just too lazy to go through the hassle of finding user guide on how to find them, connect to new wifi points etc..

Plus, those home appliances don't need high internet speed anyway. Even with just 1 or 2 bar of signal, they work just fine.

Update 15/05/2025: side story. If your mesh WIFI speed is not satisfying, it could be problem with your stock modem and router. My stock Unifi router had paper speed of 867 Mbps but the highest i've ever gotten was only 500~600+ when standing right next to it, compared to subscribed package of 800Mbps. Today the Unifi guy came over and tested with new 2-in-1 modem/router, voila! 820MBps++ on speedtest!

Yeah another lesson that paper speed is only on paper.

If you are going to replace your main router, then setup the new router with the exact same wifi ssid and password. This way your smart home devices would just connect normally.

Secondly if you are buying X20, you need to setup the new router with special ISP requirement on the internet connection page, then select Unifi, then enter your username and password. That should do it. New router would not have the required VLAN tagging to connect to Unifi.

I have just replaced the existing Fiberhome router with the Deco X20, but I could not connect to the internet with my existing PPPoE username and password. Right now the X20 showing red LED light. Do I need to get a new password from Unifi?

When you first login to your router, there should be an option to choose what you want to use it for (a router, repeater or whatever), then once you choose as router, the next (or next next) page should have a connection setup page, and once you choose pppoe, there should be a tickbox for special internet requirement, and once you tick that, you would have a list of ISP from which you have to choose unifi.

There are no such options. The app prompts me to choose a connection type immediately after it detects the Deco.

Update: Found the setting that you mentioned under Advanced Settings -> IPTV/VLAN with the help from ChatGPT 😅

Problem solved. Thanks for your help 🙏🏼

My bad... Glad you found it.

Im too lazy to reset my x50 5g router since I had a lot of smart switches connected to my router. Tplink has different GUI for both normal and deco router. Not sure why they want to complicate things for user.

22-24 MBps wired file transfer speed. That's not possible.

So the router I have is the TPLink AX5400. Internet is Unifi so I have to use the Unifi setting for IPTV-VLAN. That means port 1 is for Unifi IPTV via VLAN, ports 2 and 3 are for internet and port 4 is for VOIP.

Recently got a second hand NAS server. Alongside my old NAS, I intended to use both. When I did file transfers, they only reach 22-24 MBps max. At the office, I can get about 100 MBps to a similar NAS.

Obviously because there are only two internet ports, I also need to use a switch which in this case is a Tenda 8-port one. I've tried various these configurations and the results are the same: NAS directly to the router while the rest (including desktop PC) is through the switch or NAS connected to the switch with the rest of the stuff. Just using WiFi, I can get 22-24 MBps.

I've changed cables of CAT5e to CAT6 and it's still the same. CAT5e should get 100MBps. Even tested NVME to NAS transfer and it's the same.

Any ideas of what's going on?

Thought of sharing my experience for those who might face the same issue.

Home - Unifi 800MBps, using the stock router D-Link DIR-842.
Device - Deco X20

My experience has been far from "easy" unlike those who have shared their reviews.

Starting off with what worked for me.
My setup is Modem > Unifi router > Main Deco > sub Deco

Problems faced.

1) Deco app is not available in Huawei App Gallery. Downloading it from APKPure or GBox is possible, and the app looks normal, but it just can't locate my Deco during setup phase.
Solution: used the Deco app in iPhone.

2) Multiple issues during setup
- unable to detect the main Deco
- main Deco has solid red light
Solution: press the reset button and try from the start.

- device not connected to the internet
Solution: apart from reset, I had to remove the entire SSID (the wifi name and password) then start from the beginning. What finally worked for me was to login to the Unifi router and made sure each LAN port was enabled for internet. My main problem was plugging it into a port meant for IPTV.. then problem solved.

3) tried calling TP Link Malaysia technical support
Solution: none. Nobody picked up the phone.

So far the speed has been quite satisfactory, my issue was with Unifi who's only giving me 30% of subscribed speed..

Hope this helps!

Are you able to get speed test result close to 800mbps? Mine UNIFI plan upgraded from 500mbps to 800mbps. But I hardly get speed test result close to 800mbps.

erm right after modem change I managed to hit 826 Mbps.

On average.. around 600~700++Mbps but that's only at direct line of sight to router.

Do you mean the fiber termination modem? Mine is using ZTE fiber termination modem provided by TM. How about you?

Looking for Deco systems that supports DoT/DoH
At the moment the official website only listed support for X50, X55
Is this legit? Newer Wifi 7 ones doesnt support?

Performance is bad though, are you okay with it?

DoH / DoT quite taxing on consumer router CPU

The thing that it affects is not the speed, so the speedtest is still fine

It's the time it takes for the router to resolve the DNS is slow due to limited CPU power unless you using those higher end routers with faster CPU

It mainly affect browsing the web, things just feel laggy and not smooth

Suggest to setup on device DoH instead as it is much faster. Natively supported on Android and Windows now

Yikes, I wanna switch my AX88u (Running merlin+DoT) out for a mesh system
Seems like I need to wait for something that's more powerful then
I'm not setting DoH on my phones because PBB app doesnt play well with custom DNS settings doh.gif

Since you are already using ASUS, what's stopping you from just buying another router from them and setting it up as node?

Merlin doesn't support Ai mesh yet? If on original firmware there always got Ai mesh allowing you to buy another asus router as mesh node

Btw for tp archers series actually some of wifi 7 (be series) also comes with doh dot option but mesh is limited to easy mesh protocol

A bit skeptical about roaming performance on Asus since it is missing kvr roaming?
