Hi guys,
Last year I was at the breaking point and wanted to leave this company.. It was a push factor actually. Cannot tolerate the 'yes boss' environment anymore. But I was never serious in finding new jobs.. I have been floating my CVs on various employment website since last year. This year, the environment is getting worse with the recent promotions of certain GMs and SMs. I still persevere.

Suddenly, I was called for an interview and I said to myself well just give it a try, no pressure. Then, I got the offer. The offer is not really lucrative. It is almost similar to what I am getting yearly (inclusive of bonuses) albeit higher. Medical benefit cannot compete with PET of course. However, looking at the job description, it is something new and different from what I am doing now. Seems exciting as it will involve new technology selection, etc.

But do I leave because of my current environment or I just need to hang in there? Or do I take this new opportunity but loosing some of the perks now?

One of my senior colleague used to tell me that, if you leave because of the environment, you will somehow end up in almost similar environment elsewhere. U will get frustrated again..it would be a vicious cycle then.

still dont know what shd I do.. sad.gif

What about if they offer you a contract position.?
The payment is not that high.
It will be on project basis.
Should we grab that opportunity??

I am exactly in a similar situation like you. Now considering on whether to accept the offer from Petronas. The increment is not that much, however, looking at the JD it will be quite a huge role covering 16 OPUs. Benefit wise it's more or less similar.

I am dilemma now because my current work environment is very flexible, i.e no one really cares if you are in the office or not, as long you are contactable and able to carry out your tasks on time. You can even work at home/Starbucks for all they care.

The only downside with my current company is I that have a limited career growth. Whereas in Petronas, I was made to understand during the interview that my career growth will be well planned in the next 5-10 years.

So yes, I am still undecided at the moment... :-/

In your case, I somehow tend to disagree with your senior colleague on his opinion. IMO an environment of a workplace really depends on the culture of that particular organisation. You'll never know until you explore it further.

actually i send my resume to HR on 12/8. i got the HR email from my senior. they called me for chit chat call on 28/8, they called me again on 19/9 for confirmation to attend interview and my SI was on 27/9...seriously, i didnt expect that fast.  for my case, it is about 1-2 months from application to SI. the result for SI straight away announced after the session on the same day.

Hi,

I found that this forum very useful for PETRONAS people. Ive been reading through this forum from the start of my recruitment process up until now hehe.. Thank you so much to all the Seniors. Really appreciate it. If not i might be wondering around thinking on how to pass the interview hehe.

I just want to share my recruitment process experience.
Apply DiscoverPETRONAS: early April 2013
Phone interview: end of June 2013
Declaration form: 11 July 2013
Structured interview: 29 July 2013

Medical checkup:15 August 2013
Offer letter: 20 August 2013
Report duty/PIPE: 2 September 2013

I'm grateful that my recruitment process didn't took so long. The most important thing is be patient and keep up to date with the job hunter. And don't forget to pray a lot! InsyaAllah everything will be good =)

I'm going to start my new journey at PETRONAS very2 soon. Hopefully this is the best for me.

It's the same, they check on your blood, urine test, audiometry, x-ray on chest and etc. BMI has to be watched out so that you can go offshore. But if your blood pressure or sugar level is high, than your offshore medical extension maybe just 6 months or 1 year, depending on the doctor.

hohoho.my BMI is underweight. working environment : office and offshore platform.need to add some more kg for BMI back to normal.for me,its really hard to increase weight.hahahaa

Finally got offer letter -.-

This is why I'm so relieved:

1. Apply Discover Petronas: mid january 2013
2. Received SI appointment: end of march 2013
3. SI: 19 April 2013 (along with a hundred over other applicants I think)
4. SI result: end of May 2013 (just graduated from uni at same time)
5. Medical check letter: start of October 2013 (Submitted med result same day)
6. Offer letter: 8 Oct 2013 (report for PIPE 18 Nov 2013)

Timeline from application --> Offer letter = 9 months. Mad torture for me....had no idea it will take that long. Maybe coz I'm a fresh graduate.

I didnt read the previous posts in this thread so once i got result didnt bother applying anywhere....which left me 5 months on my part time job (took part time so if petronas came calling i can quit anytime). Only after reading posts from sifus here i decided to apply elsewhere, but thankfully Petronas got back to me smile.gif .

As for Petronas HR, I dont think its fair to label them as extremely slow. Sure some are and some even rude, but I was very thankful to my HR manager who first handled my case. I'm pretty sure she had loads of other applicants to handle and whenever I called her to enquire she was always understanding and tried her best to communicate with my department. Should blame the atrocious filing system for Petronas.....even their own HR are complaining about it.

Btw any Pipeline Engineer around here? If so can enlighten me about the job scope in petronas?

Also anyone else attending PIPE next month??

Went for SI interview last week and got a call from HR stating that I got an offer into HSE department. What is the job scope of HSE department ? I am really interested in process engineering, is there a chance (years later) for me to do process engineering after accepting this offer in Petronas?

I have just received the offer from Petronas for a position of Senior Geoscientist as direct hire staff for 2 years. During interview, HR said contract staff is not entitled for any form of bonus.

Based on my calculation, the increment they offered is 7% of my current salary (if factor in 2 months bonus; which I usually will get). I complained and asked for revision, and they said I cannot factor in my bonus to calculate my expected salary because Petronas will also give bonus to contract staff but based on Company's discretion.

I read in previous post and I understand if they say bonus payout is based on Company's discretion means it is not going to happen. Anyone has any experience on this matter?
