Hi there,

Submitted my CV to HR in mid July after my ex-colleague (currently in PCSB) asked me to. After Raya, last week received a call from HR asking me to attend an interview in early September for the position of Senior Geoscientist.

I have been working for O&G service provider in past 10 years. Appreciate if anybody could advise what salary range I should be looking at?

Btw, experienced candidates still need to undergo those Structured Interview? The lady who called me didn't mentioned anything about Structured Interview.

Thanks a lot.

Hi Bro Azraeil,

Appreciate if you could advise me on this.

I have received an invitation to attend an interview from PCSB for the position of Senior Geoscientist.

According to the HR, it is a direct hire contract employment. And if I pass the technical assessment and are recommended for a permanent position, then only a structured interview will be conducted.

My concern is after the two years contract, how likely PCSB will absorb a contract worker to be a permanent one? And do you have any idea why SI is so important to hire a permanent staff?

Thanks a lot.

I cannot answer you on how likely is it that they will hire you on permanent position. As for why they require an SI for permanent position, it's part and parcel on determining whether you are a person that they want to invest in the long term or not. I'm pretty sure your CEP (Current Estimated Potential) will also be assessed during this SI thing. (Not sure if HR still uses CEP, cause during my time my CEP was about Gred 29 or GM position at the time).

Thanks azraeil. According to the manager, the reason to hire on contract basis for the first 2 years is to avoid HR protocol. Wonder what that means?

HR Protocol means the mamager is trying to avoid the delay in getting you in. HR creates all these protocols to make sure they exist in the company. Otherwise, they are a bunch of useless fella. Sorry, a bit of a rant. You can take the DH route and once you're in, maybe after 6 months, talk to the manager and indicate to them that you'd like to be in a permanent position, the process will a lot less painful if you are already in the system.

OIC. I have never worked as a contract staff before and I don't know how it actually works. I heard no medical benefit and bonus will be given. In that case, I guess expecting RM25k / month is still acceptable.

Attended the technical assessment yesterday. It is a contract position (3 years). I asked them if they can offer a permanent position.

And this is their answer:

We can recommend you to be employed as permanent but you have to go through the Structure Interview which we have no control of the outcome. The result depends on HR decision. If you do not accept the contract offer, and go for SI, and if you failed the SI, no position will be offered.

But if you accept the contract offer, and asked to be absorbed as permanent later, you still have to go through SI, but this time if you failed, you are still a contract staff

I received the following reply from HR

"We are pleased to inform you that you are successful in your interview with our organization however, your hiring is subject to our Management’s approval.

We will be communicating with you again for any update"

Anyone know what does this means?

I have just received the offer from Petronas for a position of Senior Geoscientist as direct hire staff for 2 years. During interview, HR said contract staff is not entitled for any form of bonus.

Based on my calculation, the increment they offered is 7% of my current salary (if factor in 2 months bonus; which I usually will get). I complained and asked for revision, and they said I cannot factor in my bonus to calculate my expected salary because Petronas will also give bonus to contract staff but based on Company's discretion.

I read in previous post and I understand if they say bonus payout is based on Company's discretion means it is not going to happen. Anyone has any experience on this matter?

My medical was cleared for employment. I have received the Letter of Offer and Employment Contract via email today. What will happen if I tell them that I don't want to accept their offer?

Any advise is highly appreciated.

Memang attractive...but the offer made by my existing boss more attractive...don't feel like breaking my promise to accept their offer....some more somebody told me that if I reject their offer at this stage, I will face problems if I work for a service provider that holds their contract...

Gonna reject the offer from Petronas. The consequence is there will be a cooling period of 2 years before I can apply to any position offered by Petronas again. Not sure about their other JV companies.
